Ed, it’s not fear from the other leagues, la liga statement is spot on for example.
It is fear of the handful of elite clubs across Europe, chiefly juve, barca and Real.
You see, unlike the prem league that encourages competition by awarding tv money more fairly, the other elite clubs in Europe have always demanded they have a bigger cut in their domestic leagues. This has meant that the PL has become far better and their leagues can’t compete.
They should follow PL lead not try to destroy it, but they far too selfish and greedy to consider that.

I like it as it is, can reform the euro comps all they want but it needs to be fed by domestic leagues based on domestic performance.

Why not? The current model allows for multiple new teams from each nation to qualify for one of the 3 comps each season. Would be much bigger turn around than 12 teams especially considering qualifying rounds.

Yes only 3 championship clubs can get promoted per season, but that is 3 out of just 24 or 1 in 8!
The super league would allow just 3 new clubs from across all of Europe and the money awarded to those in top tier will pretty much cement their place in the super league for all time, they can never drop out but in current model one bad season and they do and someone else then gets a shot in top tier (champions league).

No banjo, once set up 3 teams from the bottom tier of ESL can be relegated each year….that means each year there will be only 3 new places available to teams across all of Europe.

That’s where the fate of PL and all European domestic leagues would be sealed though banjo.
The level at which you compete has to be based on domestic performance and keep domestic leagues as central to everything.
If the super league had more money and the level a club participates at is determined only by super league performance it will inevitably become more important to perform well in ESL than PL. That would be a point of no return mate.

I forgot that all prem league owners had to sign an agreement not to participate in break away leagues. Don’t know whether this new version would still be classed as a breakaway from PL it seems more of a break from UEFA

Banjo, so what are you saying? That teams at Europa league level shoukd not compete in Europe as it is as too boring but if they did under banner of super league that somehow it becomes more entertaining?

I can imagine at the start that invitees would be determined based on domestic performance but think that continuing participation will depend more on performance in super league than domestic.
If they just talking about rebranding current European competition then it would be pointless as UEFA as threeps said are already reformatting CL.

Banjo, if they market the super league globally and the money outweighs the PL then the PL will be secondary and no way of getting it back once we pass point of no return. The number of games will increase incrementally and before you know it spurs will be resting players in prem league against arsenal to keep first team fresh for super league match with atletico Madrid in new York.
We already have the best of all worlds, the best league and football pyramid in probably all sports and 3 tiers of European competition.
