First start in 7 months for kante and like 67 I am delighted to see him back.
We are terrible in opposition box, have been all season. I fancy salah to come on and get a goal for pool. I think as poor as the form of both teams is, pools forward players will make the difference in second half, particularly salah.

Lose to chelsea but beat arsenal? Must be some logic there, don’t see it, but hope you are right π€£

Sean, I am sure he is high on our shortlist but we have a lot of business to take care of the other way before we can go all out for him or anyone close to his level.

Ed, if he goes and wins the champs league somewhere you know I would beg him to come to chelsea π€£

We will see Ed, he is obviously very talented, most prem coaches are.
Special will take some proving and again I would give most of the credit for brightons continued progress to the recruitment. Players like mitoma coming in and not forgetting most of the Brighton players are naturally getting better over time due to their age and the competition they are facing week in week out.
Without all the intelligence and work that went in to the building, maintaining and rebuilding of the squad he inherited, none of this would have been possible, for him nor Potter prior.
That takes nothing away from de zerbi though because the progress would not have continued had he been anything less than a very good coach which he evidently is.
If you want to argue that he is doing better than Potter would have had he stayed and is a much better coach I won’t need to argue that I don’t care either way, what concerned me is the possibility of chelsea making the same mistake again in presuming Brightons consistent progress over performance is down chiefly to the guy in the dug out and that it could be replicated at a bigger scale just because the budget is bigger.
De zerbi has the best job in the world just like Potter did, low expectations relative to the quality of the squad and infrastructure. Its perfect until the club hits its ceiling and expectations change.
Wish him all the best and if he becomes one of the best in the world good for him π

Totally agree Ed on kane being perfect option, there no doubt about that in my mind at least.
Osimhen due to price, injury record and lack of previous experience in prem league is certainly less appealing but damn is he good.
I would take either at Chelsea in a heart beat.

Ed 100m on 5 years is 20m per year(excluding wages)and nothing to a club of utds resources if it is to be spent on your main striker.
Financially speaking osimhen and kane are within utds reach and excellent options

I love Osimhen, he is a world class version of tammy Abraham. Little injury prone I think and will be expensive.
Think he would be great addition to the league

Hand on heart, the reason I always come back to this site and TT is because of my affection for nine and how much I value the opportunity to chat with a fellow chelsea fan as passionate and insightful as he is.
You have kept me sane in the craziest of times nine and I will forever be grateful to have found you on TT all those years ago.

Ed, I would have given until end of season but at this point I have no faith or reason to believe he would have done enough in remaining games to turn confidence around. I am almost certain it was only going one way.
Like I said, if I could defend him I would. I am not defending boehly either, this is clearly down to his poor management of the first team management since he came in. They are not mutually exclusive, it’s not one or the other.
Anyway, in light of the very sad news I have little motivation to debate these trivial matters today so I will just accept your opinion and leave you with mine π

Paul I have been thinking of you and concerned like many others here. I am heart broken to read this today.

Rock bottom after 3 games is not worse than Potter this season. The point is despite set backs there has been a genuine progression that has been evident, they weren’t bottom for long mate.
I’m sorry mate but watched every chelsea game this season and there been zero positives or progression and clear regression. I can not honestly offer Potter any defence as to why he deserved more time, if I could I would.

They won the fa Cup and a lot of the fans saw evidence to trust the process, you are right some arsenal fans didn’t trust but many did because it was no where near as bad as chelsea under Potter and he didn’t inherit anywhere near the level of players Potter did either.
If your point is chelsea gave him a 5 year deal but are sacking him after 7 months so have clearly abandoned that vision then fine it’s trivial and self evident.
My concern is whether we would do better with another manager or not and the longer the season has gone on the more convinced I have been that the answer to that is yes. To the point where I am not sure how he could have changed our minds in remaining 10 games.
We just want to see progress and our best players played in best positions, we are not demanding instant success as fans.

And again Ed its not about instant success because the minimum that qualifies as success for chelsea fans is top 4, most of us would have allowed him to miss it. We wanted to see evidence of progress which arteta gave arsenal for example, we have got worse, not even the slightest progression

We all knew the first half of season would likely cost us top 4, I believe this was accounted for in the “vision” but regressing further since was surely not and you have to be confident you are on an upward trajectory

Ed you are missing the point as you clearly believe seeing some progress this season was NOT part of the vision.

Ed, my question is not irrelevant at all btw, regards if you would back ten hag with Potters record.
All these narrative driven arguments are doing is detaching us further from the reality of things.
So I ask you again, would you want utd to sack ten hag if he had taken utd to 11th on 38 points with 10 games to go? Or would you let the narrative around his initial appointment determine whether it’s right to sack him or not regardless of the results?

Ed, I posted this on TT before he was sacked yesterday
” I believe our priorities between now and start of next season would be
1) Ensure we are on track to comply with FFP, the consequences of a breach of new FFP will be severe and to be avoided at all cost. Forget what happened with city, we will be done if we breach and done good.
2) While always working with the number 1 priority in mind we look to address the balance within the squad and greatly reduce numbers. This means offloading a hell of a lot of players and bringing in two or three to fill gaping holes in squad ie top class goal keeper and striker
3) upgrade the managerIf we can do 3 without sacrificing 1 or 2 then I am for it.
Until 1 and 2 are done we wonβt benefit from the increased expectations of a proven elite manager, we will be in a state of continuing crisis and perceived underachieving.
I would prefer all 3, if we canβt do all 3 this is my order of priority.”

The vision was to see gradual progression this season, not regression.
