mav its speculation, maybe arsenal could afford but didnt see value, maybe they just couldnt afford, the only fact though is that in reality they opted for a cheap 8m short term fix that may not fix anything. I feel for 8m signing luiz is a no brainer, but it is a world apart from the level of business that has been speculated and repeated by yourself.

Pagan I have always thought that the clubs competing in europe should be excluded from league cup, that way no club is involved in more than three comps a season and FA cup would mean a bit more for the top teams as the only domestic cup they can win. Would also make it easier to accommodate a few more fa cup games for the elite clubs in the earlier rounds.

james looked like a good addition against us mav, but dismiss him if you wish.You cant argue that your transfers may not work out here because the same could be said about arsenals signings. only time will tell. and yes you have massive problems moving players on, but that was caused by many bad decisions in previous windows and silly contracts, but that doesnt matter as we are talking about this window. imo the profile of player you have brought in this summer suggests utd have adapted their thinking for the better. Should have signed fernandes too though and I understand if you are underwhelmed.

defence was the priority though right mav? I shaw finds form you have by far the best backline since fergie and one that is set for years. cant do everything in one window, and your deadwood is harder to shift. arsenal addressed 4 positions with 2 quick fixes and 2 long term solutions, while utd addressed 3 positions with 3 long term solutions, thats not a big difference is it?

mav, do you prefer utd’s squad last year or this year? luiz and cabellos are cheap short term business, in short term strengthens arsenal more than james, but tierney and pepe is on par with bissaka and maguire imo and i honestly dont see a big difference.

stevo, im only having a bit of fun, of course it would have been a bit different if you had qualified for CL, and you have had a good window, but I cant help mocking kroenke for his comments because it is just self promoting babble. As for pool, I still think its a tough ask to iwprove on a squad that earned 97 points. I think their logic is unless a special player becomes available the bigger risk is unsettling the squad they have.

stevo, transfer expenditure is spread out, which is why clubs tend not to have 2 big summers in succession. If the right player was available Im sure pool would have spent, but they have so much expenditure to account for from last few seasons they wont just buy for sake of spending. Pool have ruled the market in terms of the kind of strategy you are praising kroenke for since klopp arrived. Wouldnt be surprised if they get timo werner in jan or on a pre contract for free summer move. I dont think winning CL changed pools strategy, they are evidentally too astute in the market to change plans based on one game, although arsenal seem to be bragging that their plans were completely changed by 45 mins? Cant act in a reactionary way then go on a pr mission to convince everyone of how proactive they are. The problems have been obvious pre emery, shouldnt have taken a battering fron chelsea on last day of the season to notice, but if it helped you are welcome, thank god you didnt win eh? 😉

well from a stragic POV and considering constraints I can see what you are getting at, but if you only consider how much each team strengthed on the field its not a massive difference imo. To be fair all utd’s buys have been long term and they are trying to offload their over paid dead wood too. To paraphrase chris rock “those gunners expect credit for shit they supposed to do! 🙂

I dont think arsenals summer was that much better than utd’s stevo, but I do think it was a very good window for you. Tierney and pepe are fantastic signings, what worries me as chelsea fan is prospect of arsenal qualifying CL then having an even better summer next year. Think its worried lamps too which is why we have deployed agent luiz 🙂 if only we could have got agent bakayoko to utd too..

to add to that ed, while I agree this season could poor for us, there is also a very real possibility of a big uplift, and good luck to emery or solskjaer keeping their jobs if either finish below lampards chelsea!

Ed, I agree with you and totally behind frank, but i do think we will always be vulnerable to good defensive countering sides this season. rashford and martial are seasoned pros next to tammy and giroud is impact sub. Until ruben and hudson are playing week in week out and we have a top striker we will struggle against good defensive teams like wolves imo
