Ed, that’s fair enough, but every team he has been at post Porto has had the capacity to win the league, Inter were no exceptions, they were champions when he took over and he didn’t need investment to maintain the standards of Mancini or even better it. The great achievement for him there of course was the CL victory, as there were better and richer squads throughout Europe that year than Jose’s Inter.
Maybe you are right and the squad at spurs is already capable of challenging with a coach like Jose, I just don’t see it myself.

Ed, jose would only go to spurs if guaranteed massive backing in the market imo as he will want to compete for the title and without massive backing, whether Jose, Poch or even Pep is in charge the team will not be able to challenge, especially after the exits of so many of their experienced players, many by the looks of it on a free.

Sean, I do think because of the history of black stereotyping in culture and its use in marketing like the conguitos mascot, that we should refrain from using images like Silva did. I believe there was no malice or racism intended from Silva, but totally understand how many people are offended by it.
For me where society, and organisations like Kick it out fail here, is in our reaction. We are too quick to label people as racist and attaching intentions to things people say on a whim or in jest without really thinking. All Silva needs is a little historical information about that image and an explanation as to why it is offensive, he doesnt deserve to be demonised as a racist or banned from playing any games, neither does Pep deserve any reprimand for standing up for the character of a player and a human being he knows very well.

So who did Trippier sleep with then? Still dont get why he was sold. Spurs have been benefitting from many good decisions and long term planning over last few years. Seems there have been a number of bad decisions too that have gone under mainstream radar but all seem to be rising to the surface at the same time. Convenient for Poch to have distanced himself from these decisions, even more convenient for him is that he is credited for the good and Levy is responsible for the bad.

1st October 2019 at 10:02 pm in reply to: Week 2: CL & the crappy one the Goonies are in…. :) #48995sorry banjo mate. spurs fans were great and fully behind the team even at 2-4 and 80 mins, they didnt deserve to get embarrassed in last 10 mins like that. Bayern werent even really pushing, the goals were supremely well taken but spurs downed tools.

More symptomatic of the underlying problem than a cause though surely.

Sean, I agree re Jorginho mate, I was very critical of him at times last year and would not have protested in the slightest had we sold him in the summer as I thought he was handicapping us having to play a system to accommodate him, I am delighted he has proven me to be completely wrong.
I even went back to look at his performances last year in terms of statistics and to be fair he was much better than I gave him credit for and I think its only because he is the last line of defence and was so often left alone in key moments that I thought he wasn’t up to the job. Easier to criticise Jorginho in those situations than the players ahead of him who allowed the opposition to cut through them so easily and get to the back line I suppose.
Lots of headaches for Lamps to come in terms of selections and systems though mate, the competition in the squad is heating up every week as players come back to fitness.

Yeah I was pleased with clean sheet too 442 and I agree with the importance the front press defensively.
I think Mount presses like there is no tomorrow and having him in the centre for a change with Willian and Pedro wide (who lets be honest both work extremely hard off the ball) and Tammy pressing from the front, we were extremely tough to play through. Props to Jorginho too who imo was man of the match.
Delighted with Christensens performance in a back 4, but Tomori is something else, when Rudiger is fit he and Tomori look a fantastic pairing I would expect our defence to improve a lot once we get the fortune of being able to select the same centre back pairing for a good run of games. Its a bit too chop and change due to the circumstances for any real consistency in defence to be developed so far.

You wont believe Lloris’s error banjo, really poor mate.
Great show of character for your boys to get the 3 points with 10 men for best part of an hour.

Getting a new manager was not optional for the club but necessary, as Sarri wanted out. Some might say its the chelsea fans that made his mind up for him, they can believe that if they want, but I feel the transfer ban and Juve calling was enough motivation for sarri to want out.
As for a top class replacement, I am not sure how many would have been attracted to the job at this time given the circumstances. The club needed someone who understood the importance of maximising the youth products we have and the moment lamps was in the mix in just seemed right.
I too posted that I would go for Rafa before lamps was appointed. But I dont really think we would have had a chance at top ready made coach outside of that due to the circumstances.

on current form we wont finish top 6, you dont need to argue that or point it out its obvious. If you dont think it will get better defensively fine, I think it will, but neither of us can be sure until we have seen a lot more games.

Manager A) signs for Chelsea with a team capable of comfortably finishing top 4 and a hefty transfer budget to start the season
Manager B) signs for Chelsea with a team that is odds on for top 6 but not capable of comfortably finishing top 4 and full of inexperience. On top of this manager B has no opportunity to strengthen in the market.
Does manager B deserve more time and patience than manager A? Of course he does, it is only logical and to deny it is absurd.
Manager A describes every manager Chelsea have had since roman bought the club up to and including Sarri.
Manager B describes Lampard.
