6th now Banjo, and while you may be worried about an inevitable implosion eventually, it will get a hell of a lot better before it gets worse imo.

Whats it like to spend your time on the sofa instead of hiding behind it banjo? How about Dele Alli today, he’s perfect for Jose that lad.

Lol Mav, but it is understandable if that confused you. Just to explain, Lamps has talked about how just after Jose arrived at chelsea he gave him the most amazing pep talk when lamps was starkers in the shower, telling him he can be the greatest midfielder in the world, Lampard said it made him feel 10 foot tall and was a massive boost to his confidence. It looks to me he already has had a similar effect on Dele’s confidence.

Seeing the difference already Mikus. Many times today spurs have played more direct when the simple possession retaining passes were on. Yes they lost possession with some of the direct balls in to the forward line, but they look more dangerous than under Poch already.

I think Jose has had that Lampard chat with Dele in the shower btw… How hungry and motivated does he look today? Superb 45 from him.

Mak, I am a Chelsea fan who loved Jose but I wanted him out at the end and I am glad he was sacked. He does have a destructive nature when things dont go his way and no one who as watched him over last 5 years can deny that. However, no one can deny that he is an exceptional coach, he is truly a special coach in fact.

In my opinion Pochettino does not deserve to mentioned in the same category as Jose. Jose cries after winning finals, not semi finals, and has a proven record in 4 European leagues as the most serial of serial winners. Poch has won nothing, there is a reason so many non spurs fans wished spurs hadnt sacked him, he was never that intimidating or effective , and the stats PROVE it.

                        Spurs in prem under Pochettino:P-202-W-113-D-43-L-46-POINTS-382
Spurs in prem before poch (prev 202 games):P-202-W-106-D-47-L-48-POINTS-365

Now I am sorry, but isnt the narrative supposed to be that Poch elevated Spurs a level or two above where they were and that he developed their best squad in prem league history? Well I agree with the second part, he did have the best spurs squad I have seen in recent times, but to only achieve 17 points more over 202 games with this squad is not an achievement worth bragging about imo and is a record that does not justify him being compared with the likes of Jose Mourinho. It does however provide some justification as to why Levy wanted to make a change. Another justification would be Pochettino’s ridiculous contempt and lack of respect for domestic trophies that the fans and Levy would struggle to understand, Jose wouldnt understand it either, and spurs would be a good bet for the FA cup this year I reckon, whens the last time they won it? Dont you think spurs deserve a manager who really wants to win it for them?

I hope Jose fails, but have no doubt that Spurs today have a much better manager than they did at the start of the week.

Mak, I think Jose deserved to be sacked by utd for the same reason Poch deserved the sack in the end, they didnt want to be their respective clubs and it was obvious in their words, actions and the results on the pitch. Thinking back to it, what must have Levy been thinking when Poch said he would quit if spurs win champs league, lost and then carried on begrudgingly?

As for Jose’s achievements at utd though, I think he developed the team well in the first season and got the maximum possible out of them in the second, I dont think anyone else would have done better than 81 points with that squad, given the competition. Problem with it was the expectation on him to win the league, the moment it became clear to him that utd would not get any better than 2nd best without further investment I think he rightly wanted out and lost belief, you cant hide that from your players and the fans, it became more and more evident until it was impossible to continue.

I think the difference at spurs is there is no real expectation for them to win the league under jose, and what he achieved at utd would be respected if he did it with spurs, even though spurs have the better squad, the way we (and media) collectively set expectations for each club is so illogical and as Jose referred to in his press conference, it is changing the game.

One thing I found interesting was when he said if he wins the league with spurs it will not be because of him but because of the work the club has done, thats kind of true but he would be a massive factor in it if they did win the title. Seems strange and out of character for Jose to play down his own brilliance and importance doesnt it? Well if he is not responsible for any success they may have, then the converse is he will not be responsible if they have none, as the failure will simply be a consequence of the work the club has done too…Clever man Jose, but I am slightly less worried about him at spurs simply because of this one statement, although I am also going out of my way to find reasons as to why he will fail a spurs, would really hurt to see him succeed with them, and I believe he can.

I grew up in the valleys in s.wales. Cardiff were my closest team, but my uncle was a cardiff city hooligan and a drunk, and as a kid I was terrified of the thought of going to see a cardiff game or being around people like that, too young and ignorant at the time to understand that all clubs had the same type of idiot and it was a football problem, not simply a Cardiff city one.

Never the less I really enjoyed watching football on the tv and playing it. By the time I was 9 all my friends in school had a team they supported, it was mainly man utd, then pool, and then surprisingly enough Newcastle (no one gave a crap about Cardiff city). I didnt really have an affection for any particular club but I remember wanting to support a different team to all my friends, that’s when I met my Chelsea supporting older cousin, and he told me everything he knew about chelsea. I think the main reason I was attracted to the club was how much I related to them at the time, Chelsea were an average side with dreams of becoming great, and I was very insecure kid with low self esteem who dreamed of being confident and successful, I have always liked supporting the underdog too.

I dont think I knew I loved Chelsea until FA cup final against utd in 94. It was the first game I anticipated with such excitement and nervousness, my friends who were utd fans always took the piss out of chelsea, and me for supporting them, and I was so looking forward to Chelsea beating utd and giving them all the stick they had coming…. We lost 4-0 and I cried my eyes out, didnt hear the end of it at school either. But once you are smitten with a club there is no going back and my love just grew with every season. I have so many great memories of the progress we made after that final, and I remember talking to my cousin on the phone for hours after we signed Gullit, we were so excited and the progress we made in the years following prior to Romans purchase gave me so much joy through my teenage years, this year I am 25 years a blue, and wouldnt swap it for anything, Chelsea have been a massive part of my life and such comfort in difficult times, I will love them forever.

Funny thing is I work in Cardiff now and one of my colleagues has been a Cardiff season ticket holder since he was born (father made him a member day he was born) He really hates me for supporting Chelsea when I was born 15 miles from Cardiff, and like many others, he believes the only way to enjoy football and support a club is to go to games every week. The irony about his position however, is when I asked him hypothetically who he would support if Cardiff went bust and werent reformed, he said he would support Newport because its the thrill of seeing the game live that is most important to him. Whats ironic about this is that I as an armchair fan could never support another team than chelsea given the same hypothetical situation, it would be impossible for me to care about another team. I think a lot of match going fans, especially of years gone by have confused their love of tribalism for love of their club, for me it was never about becoming part of a tribe, I simply loved the Chels.

Banjo, as much as I wish spurs nothing but perennial mediocrity, I love you to bits you sexy sod, you alone are worth visiting this site for, and because of that I am delighted for you today mate, even though Im gutted with it myself. I know you are very anxious about this and don’t think Jose should have been appointed, but the more I think about this, the more I think it is a superb appointment. The spurs vid I just posted should excite you mate. Many of the arguments against are very valid, but its worth it imo.

I think its best to use an analogy that fits pretty well given our respective allegiances. Have you ever been in a toxic relationship with a crazy girl who just happens to be gorgeous and out of this world between the sheets? You know it will have to end eventually for the sake of your own mental health, and I understand that’s what is concerning you now, but the point of this analogy is to take your mind off that and get you excited about the 18 months of amazing sex you are about to have! I know, I used to date her,… twice…She likes to be called Filho Da Puta by the way. Filho knows how to make you love her, and you will love her.

Alderwerirald, vertonghen and eriksen, if jose can make them believe and sign new contracts he wont need to add many players to get a starting XI that suits him, he has an easier job now than utd imo, the squad he is inheriting at spurs is much better.

If he gets back to that he will be a massive boost to your midfield like you said. If that was to be coincided with Keita hitting form I like the look of them as a pair with Fabinho holding for your midfield, particularly in the games against more defensive teams.
