Pagan was right from the start Brian, as soon as VAR was introduced every rule of the game will be meddled with in order to make everything as black and white as possible so that VAR can be decisive, thats why intent has been removed from the equation as it is rarely black and white.

I think we may actually see a U turn on this one though and only hand balls denying goal scoring opportunities or directly leading to goals will be ruled on by VAR, the rest will be ruled on by match official as before. Hopefully we will because this really is a nonsense isnt it.

BTW, these rules also disadvantage the weaker teams who will spend less time in oppo box and as result no doubt be the victims of these decisions more often than they benefit.

Imagine being manager of a struggling team and you set them up perfectly against a top team and your boys give all they have, then in last min ball bounces in to back of defenders arm and bye bye to the point.

Steve Bruce showed a lot of class to be so outspoken despite benefitting from it, but he knows his side will suffer more than most from this in long term.

Lads, did you see the stats re handball pens on MOTD2? La liga, like the prem, used to average around 20 handball pens per season, that shot up to 57 the first season these rules were introduced, almost tripling, and like here a lot of these would have been completely accidental. Rules are rules but these rules are mental.

Apparently bundesliga saw a similar jump first season but a reduction in second season as defenders were instructed to keep hands by sides at all times. I remember few years back Ivanovic started defending like that and got some stick off Gary neville, ahead of his time by the looks of it and he never gave a pen away for handball

Arsenal played back 4 last few times I saw them I think, prob 343 tomorrow though, William, auba and laca can cause all sorts of trouble if they on it.

Sean, I think it will be very similar to game at bridge except arsenal won’t get caught with a ball in behind like we did so you will rely on mane, salah or firminho coming up with bit of magic in tight spaces. Will be a tough game for you and a draw wouldnt surprise me.

I think the league needs arsenal to win to be honest, the way it is looking pool could be walking it again soon if the rest of us don’t shape up
