Yeah it was Sean mate and if their focus was right today as a collective we would have seen a different result, there will be nothing wrong with the focus against porto though.

Nine of course mate, and I have zero criticism of tuchel’s selections in these games.
But when you rotate it inevitably means you will field stronger teams in some games than others. That we are always fielding our strongest team in CL and using the prem games to rotate is exactly my point. No criticism, on the contrary I understand and endorse tuchel’s decisions, but it is just an observation and we clearly prioritise the CL games. Let’s hope it pays off 🙂

Sean, because as explained in previous post there is a pattern of poor performances before and after CL games, that combined with tuchels selections in these games is clear evidence both he and the players are more focused on CL than prem
We were terrible before the sending off

Brian I saw that aguero is on 191 prem goals, if his motivation is to stay in prem and over take shearer as greatest ever goal scorer, and he is physically up to it over next 2 to 3 years, then I would snap him up.
City letting him go means at least one of the two, they don’t believe he is worth the money any more, and/or they have a replacement lined up for him. I think both apply but if its just the first one and city would let aguero go even without being sure of replacing him then that should set alarm bells rininging for any potential suitors at the top level for aguero that he is no longer worth the money he is asking for

Yeah nine was a well deserved hiding today to be fair, poor mentality even before sending off and always deserve a thumping when you start as sloppily as we did thinking 3 points in the bag before ref even blows the whistle
At least we know the players will be focused on porto game though, because it was clear today that’s all they are thinking about 🙂

I think our players and coaches only have eyes for champs league right now nine. Part of me happy with that as I think we have a chance but we are very much at risk of failing to finish top 4 if we continue to drop points either side of CL games and when you look at it the bad performances since tuchel took charge have all been just before or just after CL games.

Nine my point re silva was not to complain he wasn’t a long term fix, it was to point out as tuchel has proven that he wasn’t even needed in the short term.
We have a good squad nine just needs good coaching, I think we can challenge for title next season without signing any one, so if we do sign no need for short term fixes at our club, just time for tuchel to work with what we have.

Overall even red card aside I think we deserved a bit of a hiding for starting so sloppily and with so little conviction, as though we expected the 3 points to deliver themselves. Not good enough.
Suppose its not a coincidence after international break and we will see how the other top teams play this weekend, but its no excuse for today. Was the same when we played them last under lamps, arrogance leading to complacency and that is down to players

Silva
Really poor for such an experienced player to get 2 yellows like that and completely give the opposition a chance to get something, not forgetting his stinker the last time we played WBA
He was played constantly by lamps and despite some great performances, especially in champs league, ultimately Chelsea dropped to 10th and lamps got the sack with silva at heart of defence
He has been injured and the team has done fine
Can we really argue that he has been a great signing? I don’t think we can, just a decent short term fix to a problem that only existed due to inept coaching. Tuchel has proven we had the players to keep clean sheets at the club without him and it was desperation to sign him really.
Silva aside we should have defended better for the goals we conceded even down to 10 we should be more organised, have a chance of a point still but gutted with this first half

Nine/Brian, good points both, but I can only double down on this
aguero is arguably the finest striker the league has seen, nothing but respect for him. However Chelsea want to be better than city and we won’t get there by signing players that are no longer good enough for city. If he was still good enough he would be going nowhere this summer. Why was his contract not extended?

I don’t want aguero at Chelsea to be honest. Not that having him in the squad wouldnt be handy as even though he is nowhere near the player he was and is always injured he is still a great finisher.
He will demand 300k per week easy on free
Like lamps going to city, aguero going to chelsea would needlessly damage a legacy on one side of it and on the other side chelsea will end up forking out 300k per week for a player who will probably not play more than 20 games.
I would keep giroud, tammy and werner rather than replace one with past it injury prone aguero on stupid money

Ed completely agree re haaland situation,
for me it will likely end up with haaland staying for one more year then playing all the top teams against each other for best deal for himself next year, his agent will be minted either way.
For dortmund its a question of how much his goals are worth to them next season, could easily be difference between qualifying for champions league or not, how much is that worth? add it to the release clause and thats the price they could rightly demand in summer.
Nine, I know what you are saying but only applies if there is more than one haaland up for grabs, there is just one. I don’t think we will get him but if we do it will be this summer if we take advantage like Ed says and try our luck, few can afford him this summer, real and barca will snap him up next summer.
Its probably a bit stupid for me to be even posting about chelsea potentially getting haaland though its so unlikely but so worth going all out for this summer

Yeah but either way it swings if away goals decide a 2 leg game where both games are played in same venue without fans then its a bit of a nonsense.
Not that I expect the sensible from UEFA though

Nine, thats a fine work around but surely need to scrap away goals rule for this tie as neither team ever have home advantage and imagine it is level on aggregate and we go out because porto score a goal in the game marked as chelseas home game, would be a nonsense really. If level on aggregate we need to go to extra time its the only fair solution for me

Brian/pagan, I once read about a proposal for games to be two halves of 30mins but clock stops when ball is out of play or ref blows whistle. The article said that as it is now with clock always running and a few mins injury time added, we are only actually seeing about 58 minutes of actual football each game.
If we kept it at 90 mins but stopped clock every time play stopped players would actually be playing about 30 mins more footie per game than they are now and games would last at least 60 mins per half

Giblue, there are some good arguments against that in the article, it would open the game up tactically and doesn’t matter how many players are goal hanging if you can’t get the ball to them.
