Sean, all our sales this year just cancel out this year’s amortised outgoings regards the overall investment. Next year we will have another full year’s worth to cover. If our recruitment hasn’t been good enough to continue to get high returns in transfer sales each year we not only won’t be able to sign anyone, but we will have to sell some of our best players.
We will likely have to raise 150m in the market every summer to maintain the ability to bring players in.

No banjo, you bought him for 50m, sell him for 40m, and so overall have net loss of 10m.
However in terms of accounting for all this yearly for FFP, outgoings of 10m have been recorded on the accounts for the previous 3 years. Its already accounted for.
At the time of sale, there is still 20m outstanding over the next 2 years. The 40m received cancels this out and creates a surplus of 20m.

Threeps, I’m talking purely in terms of accounting. In general I think fees are paid off quicker than they are amortised as usually a lump sum is paid up front.

If you sold him for 40m after 3 years there would only be 20m left on books, it would be drawn down that year as a 20m net positive on the accounts. (40-20).
That might not make sense at first because you would expect 10m loss not 20m profit, because player was bought for 50m and sold for 40m, right?
However, if you add the 30m already paid and accounted for over previous 3 years to the 20m profit recorded on the accounts it’s (-30) +20 =-10m
It’s shows as a 20m positive after 3 years because 30m has already been recorded as losses over previous 3 years

Nil, if a team buys a player for 50m over 5 years, it’s 10m per year.
That means a club can buy a 50m player and only needs to bring in 10m that same season to balance the books because only 10m of the 50m is needed to be covered that year.
However, the club would also need to bring in 10m each season for next 4 years of contract also to cover the deal in its entirety.

In short, either ban contracts over 5 years or allow them, but to dictate terms of amortisation for assets owned by clubs is absurd imo.

To be fair, it’s perfectly normal to amoritise over the length of the relevant contract. I think if clubs are allowed to offer players 6+ year deals it’s rational for the depreciation to be calculated over the actual term of contract, not some arbitrary limit for the term of deprecation that has been pulled out of someone’s ass and pays no respect to the actual contract.

That would be great for the game imo Ed, thinking about it. The club world cup already means the world to South American clubs and players, it would be brilliant to see great teams from all continents competing on more level terms.

Enzo looks like a proper player. Colwill and Disasi are a big step up from badiashile and chalobah.
Really enjoyed the game despite my heart racing for entirety of it!
I will be at next 2 home games and I am so excited for them now.

It’s blindingly obvious. I like enzos positioning today, if we get caicedo to play where Connor Gallagher is playing we would look much more solid.
Same for you guys. Macallister is fantastic but not a 6.
