So where’s it all gone wrong? I really think our challenge to retain our title went off the rails the day at Goodison back in October when Pickford, Richarlison and the referee (and VAR) conspired to prevent us taking 3 points. And obviously not just the points, but putting VVD out for most of the season and Thiago out for nearly 3 months. I know we’ve had a couple of good results since then but we lost a lot of momentum and our best defender. Losing Virgil has had impacts throughout the team, not just defensively. His loss has greatly impacted the ability and confidence of the full backs to bomb forward effectively, and frankly, if you stop Trent and Robbo, you put a whole big dent in the team’s attacking prowess.
Trent particularly is looking totally lost out there, and if he is lost then his ability to assist Mo, Sadio and Bobby is lost also. He needs a couple of weeks out of the team undoubtedly.
Top 4 has to be our aim now though I’m not completely writing off the league just yet. But we have a nightmare set of fixtures over the next month so I’m lowering my expectations. Top 4 and make a fist of the FA Cup and CL will satisfy me. Difficult but not impossible! But Jurgen has his work cut out to change things.

I can’t believe some on here have criticised Klopp for his team selection last night,,,you are kidding, right?
I do think there is an argument for cancelling this season’s FA Cup as it is somewhat farcical, I see Sheff Wed have only 4 subs today for example, but the counter argument is the money that the small clubs will make, Gary’s Chorley being a prime example, and indeed my very own Marine tomorrow. There may not be the glory for Chorley beating Derby’s kids, but there IS the cash, and of course the possibility of drawing one of the really big boys in the next round, like Marine have.
The mighty Marine will take Chorley in round 4!!

We are delighted to announce we are now the proud custodian of the 1896–1910 #FACup following the recent purchase of the trophy at auction by Club owner, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed.

I notice you said on the other thread, Sean, that people are laughing at the UK (and you may well be right, by the way) but not half as much as people are laughing at the US. Now there is a country that really is in a mess. So many divisions, si many guns, so much Covid, and a President who refuses to accept the democratic process. Every time I think the UK is in a mess, I console myself with the thought that I could be American!!

What a grim 1st half that was. What has happened to Trent? Ox looking list also, and Hendo ain’t a centre back. Apart from that…!!

Cheers, Gary. Same to you, mate! Still waiting for that congratulatory pint in the Boundary for our League win! Think I may have to wait a while yet! Happy New Year seems a trite thing to say at the moment, but you know the right sentiments are there!

I apologise that I seem to have come in on this discussion a little late, some moderator I am! As far as I can see, it is an argument over nothing. I think the City lads main gripe is the wording of Everton’s statement and what it implies, and I think we can all agree that it could be significantly improved upon. As long as the rules of postponement are the same for everyone, then there should be no issues. I don’t profess to understand the rules of when a game gets postponed, and frankly I have little interest in researching it, but I imagine that the affected club has to apply to the PL stating their situation, and the League makes the decision…end of!
However, Gary, I have to pull you up on one point where you say ‘what happens if other players are asymptomatic, then it would spread’. Well, isn’t that the case all of the time? In that case, we should just stop playing completely…is that what you are saying? My club had a couple of cases earlier in the season with Mo, Mane, Thiago and Keita all contracting the virus, so should all our games have been postponed in case other players were asymptomatic. I would say not, and I’m with Lucky in saying that the risk to these fit young men is in fact minimal. And I would add to that by saying that football is one of the very few things about at the moment that enables people to momentarily forget the dreadful situation that we are all in. It is providing a release, certainly for me not having worked for 3 months now, and I’m sure for millions others. It’s a moot point though, as I feel it inevitable that the season will once again be postponed.
Finally, I would urge threeps, Lucky, Brian, Shiney et al who have taken part in this discussion to draw a line in it, and just look at what we are arguing about.. It’s not really that important whether a game is postponed or not, and all your inputs on this site are far more valuable.

I’m interested in Werner…at the beginning of the season I thought he looked really good, even though from memory it took him a game or two to score. He looked sharp, his movement and pace were superb, and I really thought Chelsea had got themselves a diamond. And after the incessant speculation over the last 18 months about him coming to Anfield, I was very jealous we’d missed out on him. I think it’s likely he will still prove to be a massive success, but he has looked very poor recently, and I can’t really understand why. He has good players around him, but maybe Lampard is rotating everyone else too much? I know they’ve had injuries, but one week he’s playing alongside Abraham, next week Giroud, next week Havertz, next week Pulisic. It seems that only Werner himself and Mount of the offensive players are definite starters. Compare and contrast with Klopp who, admittedly with a smaller pool of attacking players to pick from, always plays 3 of Mo, Mane, Bobby or Jota.

Steveo – can’t have Pepe, mate…he was last season’s worst signing!
Sean – surely VdB not playing, even though fit, is a good enough reason to put him on the list as well as his transfer fee.
Mak – Liverpool Thiago wasn’t a serious nomination, it’s just we haven’t much return yet, though those 135 minutes were 135 minutes more than many of the poor signings have given!

I thought about James of Everton, but after a bright start, he has faded too much for me, but certainly not a failure.

Ed – the difference between Van de Beek and Thiago is that Van de Beek has been fit and still not picked, Thiago has not been fit, so in terms of Return on Investment, they have both been failures so far, but Thiago’s ‘failure’ has been through no fault of his own…as Threeps says above ‘thanks Richarlison’

Strange coincidence…both Liverpool and United concede 7 and 6 on the same weekend back in October and score 7 and 6 respectively on the same weekend in December!

What a performance…just stunning goals – Bobby’s first was my favourite. Good job you kept this on the Liverpool thread! Would really have pissed other fans off! (Smiley face!!). Look out Prem…we’re hitting our stride now!

Steveo – I’m sorry you think the site is over dominated by Reds fans, and I would hate to think you’ve stopped posting because of it. Sadly Pax and Chucky seem to have disappeared, which is a great shame cos I always enjoyed their insight. I can only encourage you to post more (God knows, as an Arsenal fan, you have enough to post about at the moment!). The Liverpool fans on here are a lively, passionate and knowledgeable bunch, and while sometimes I can see this may irritate opposition fans, but all of us have contributed to discussions concerning other clubs, it’s not all blinkered Liverpool stuff. I must admit, I very rarely post during a game, as I’m concentrating so much on the game and I don’t want to miss anything – it takes me that long to type, I’ll miss red cards and then wonder why there’s only 10 men on a side! But I would never criticise people for posting during a game…each to his own.
So please, give us your opinion on what has gone wrong at the Emirates, and I’ll promise I’ll reply!
