Mikus, I don’t really know what the valid criticisms are. We’re top of our group having outplayed the opposition in every game so far, and with nothing like a full team in any of our matches. I know we’re not firing on all cylinders yet and having had a spectacular victory like those enjoyed by City and Spurs, but we are top of our group and we also haven’t had a result like Chelsea’s the other night.
I say again, I know we won’t win it and I know our team is far from perfect but we’re doing ok. Better than our blue neighbours anyhow!!

Great night for the English clubs, though I think our night at Anfield was slightly less whelming than those at Wembley and Napoli. Congrats to the Spurs and City boys on here!
Got home in time for the highlights after the game last night and had to watch Roy Keane slag Liverpool off. Now I know our game and performance paled in comparison to City and Spurs, but we did a good solid job eventually. So for Keane to come out and say he wouldn’t watch Liverpool if they were playing in his back garden is just pathetic and insulting. We won’t win the Champions League, I know that and every Liverpool fan knows that, but last night we were without Coutinho, Mane, Clyne and Lallana all of whom would be starters if fit and available, and on our day we can play, I promise you. Keane is a knob!

Brian = I love seeing the old footage of games around that time. Everyone in the crowd always appears to be wearing a suit and tie, as well as a hat which disappears in to the air when a goal is scored. Mind you I’m glad those rattles went out of fashion! Do you still go and watch City now?

Pax,…I don’t particularly have an issue with the foreign ones and I can see why you would have one. It’s the domestic ones especially the local derby ones that irritate me

That;s great, Brian. Was that at Maine Road? What sort of crowds were there for wartime games?

Mikus…I’d agree. And if you really closely look at it, how many of the world’s absolute best actually play in the Premiership….Aguero, de Bruyne, Sanchez, de Gea, Pogba and maybe Coutinho. Sure it’s an exciting league now, but no more exciting than 25 years ago in my opinion

Right, enough Ed, I’m feeling old! I’m not having it that I’m the oldest on here. Jim or Brian…help me out!
So Ed, how did your Dad as a ‘big Leeds fan’ allow his son to support Manchester United? Poor parenting, I’m afraid!! When was your first trip to OT?

I remember going to see Liverpool-Spurs at Anfield very early season 1978 just after you’d bought Ossie and Ricky Villa. Just 16 I was on the Kop, and it was absolutely heaving as everyone wanted to see these glamorous Argentines, the World Cup winners. But Liverpool that day put on what I would say was one of my most memorable performances I have ever seen, certainly top 2 or 3, and played Spurs off the park winning 7-0. One of those never to be forgotten games that we’ve all seen!

31st October 2017 at 8:44 am in reply to: Joey Barton horrible treatment towards David Unsworth #6849Talksport is a dreadful station now, I think. Regardless of it’s Murdoch connotations, since Colin Murray left it’s just become boring! Alan Brazil, the dinosaur that he is, continues to trot out the same misogynistic claptrap; Jim White I’ve never listened to, he’s bad enough on Sky; Durham and Gough, Mr Controversial and ‘I’m a cricketer, but they’ll never know’, and don’t get me started on Cundy, Goldstein and Mark Saggers. And has any man in the history of broadcasting loved the sound of his own voice like Danny Kelly does? Just how many times over a day can a refereeing decision be discussed. Now I love my football, but even I would get bored.
Hawksbee and Jacobs I do listen to, as their show is different…it’s not just the same old, same old! And I wasn’t even aware that Joey Barton had joined the station! Most of it is tabloid radio aimed at S** readers, prezent company excepted, and no offence meant to anyone on here!

Wish I’d seen the game, but was at Anfield. Those who did see the game tell me that there was some really top quality football played by England, particularly in the 2nd half. It really is a great achievement, and it would be graet vto see some of these youngsters get a bit of time on the pitch for their clubs over the next few months, but I think it’s unlikely. As the City lads have said above, good though Foden is, who would he replace in the City team. The same goes for Brewster at Liverpool, especially as we already have another Tournament Golden Boot winner ahead of him in the pecking order.
It will be interesting in 5 years time to look at Saturdays team and see where the career’s of these kids have taken them. Good luck to them!

Pax – yes I can! It certainly did for me with both Mourinho and Redknapp, both of whom I quite liked initially as they were something different, but eventually Mourinho became the sour faced unpleasant man he is now and ‘Arry became a caricature of himself.
But a genuine question…in what way is Klopp a media darling? Is it you feel that he escapes criticism? Or is it just too much coverage? If it’s the former, well, I’m not so sure that’s true any more. His press conferences are full of him having to answer questions about his defence (quite rightly I may add!) and there are plenty of questions being asked by Sky pundits, journalists and fans about his inability to improve our defence. If it’s the latter, well Liverpool do generate a lot of media coverage. Sky”s highest viewing figures are dominated by Liverpool and Man Utd matches not just in this country but around the world, so the Liverpool manager is always going to get plenty of airtime.
Anyway beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I can understand you’ve had enough of the guy. At least we won’t win the league…then you’d be really sick of him!

Maverick – sacking Klopp?? I know that you are not a Liverpool fan, and so I would imagine there is an element of mischief in that remark, but at Anfield there is no real discontent aimed at Klopp, at least not vocally. I think the thing that is stopping the crowd vocalising any discontent is two things…one is that with the exception of Hodgson, the Liverpool crowd have never called for the sacking of a manager, but more relevantly, I think the Liverpool fans worry about who would replace Klopp. Remember that under FSG’s ownership we were a hair’s breadth from having Roberto Martinez as our manager!! Getting Klopp as our manager was a coup at the time, he has been at the club a mere 2 years, and there is simply nothing to be gained by sacking a manager so quickly in my opinion.
And as for your Klopp drinking game, isn’t Mourinho just as much journo/TV fodder as Klopp? I’m not disagreeing with you about Klopp being a bit of a media darling, but you really need to blame the media for that, not Klopp!

If you promise me that Lovren will never be seen in a Liverpool shirt again, you can have the Liverpool job. Couple of criteria you have to adhere to…no interviews or communication whatsoever with the S**, you need to realise that Liverpool fans will worship you forever if you can bring the league championship back to Anfield, and finally no sabotaging us by playing Finnish part-timers in our team, unless they are defenders in which case they can play in place of Lovren!
By the way, Chucky, do Oulu Pallosaura still exist? I remember seeing them at Anfield in 1980 when we beat them 10-1. Lovren must have been playing centre back for us that night, because how they scored I’ll never know. They really were completely out of their depth!

Not Moreno’s fault today, mate. Watch the game and come back and tell me he was the reason we lost today. Lovren, Matip, Mignolet and the so-called midfield shield in front of them were inept and embarrassing today.
Moreno has by and large been our best performer out of the defence this season.

Ed – while I’m of course not condoning what Big Ron said, I don’t believe he is evil enough for this team. If it was simply a team of twats, he’d be suitably qualified as a perfect ignorant twat. But evil…?
