Very sad. He was playing in the very first match I went to.

Sorry, didn’t mean to ‘ha-ha’ your comment, Ed. Meant to press like and now can’t change it! Would be interesting though, wouldn’t it?

Met up for a self distanced walk and coffee with Gary (gjblues) today. Good to see Footydebate can lead to a good friendship. Looking forward to him buying me the pint he owes me for our League win last year. Trouble is, by then I’ll owe him one for this season!!

Think 9 points in 13 games is alot for Liverpool to catch Leicester. My money would be on the top 3, plus Chelsea, sad to say!
But, hey, we’ll win the Champions League and sneak in to next year’s comp that way!!

Really beginning to think Werner isn’t all that! Thought he looked pretty good at the start of the season but he’s looked poor for months now

iratecfcfan – I haven’t seen your original posts on the Chelsea site, but I can only think you were maybe abusive to a fellow poster. It is a small community on here, and all football opinions are welcome, as long as personal abuse is avoided. Try the post again without having a go at anyone, if that’s what you did

It’s been pretty toxic there for a few years now ever since they had Sullivan and Gold really. The new stadium made things worse, but although I am no fan of Moyes, I think he has to take alot of credit. They seem to have stopped the big money signings and have instead searched Europe for some bargains, and they, by and large, have worked out. Soucek and Fornals particularly are two of the bargains of the season. I think if the fans were there now, they arguably would be even more of a force than they are currently, at least while things are going well. As Lucky says or at least hints, west Ham fans are nothing if not fickle, even more than your average fan. A couple of defeats and things would change pretty quick, I guess

Mikus – amazing pictures! Could they bring back a centre back, do you think?
Seriously though, thanks to all for your kind and wise words on this thread. While we may all disagree at times, you’re not a bad lot really!

Ah, 9, that was a lovely post, and puts things in to perspective for me! I know that there are millions of people worse off than me, and I now feel guilty having a moan!! I think I just had a ‘moment’ yesterday when everything got on top of me. My wife, who also works in the hospitality trade got made redundant last week, the VAR and the football generally over the weekend and I just needed a vent!
Gary – I would love to kick some leaves around the loop Line. Back end of the week maybe? I’ll give you a call

‘Bet you didn’t feel that way last season Hightown.😊’
Do you know what, 9, while Liverpool’s pathetic defence of the title certainly hasn’t helped my current mood, it is far more the lack of crowds and not being able to go to a game that is affecting me, and the pathetic inconsistencies of VAR that piss me off. Having been a regular at Anfield for 50 years, I’ve decided TV football just ain’t the same. You can’t immerse yourself in the experience, the noise, the colour, yes, the atmosphere, and not just at the ground. In the pub beforehand, walking up to the ground, chatting to the guys in the seats behind us who we’ve sat in front of for 30 years now and still don’t know their names, but don’t need to, they are there, they are a constant, and we feel like friends though I’ve never seen them outside Anfield. Going to the game was a journey, both metaphorically and physically, and now I switch the TV on 5 minutes before ko, and it’s off as the ref blows the full time whistle whether my team has won or lost. It would be easier if my team were winning, but it’s disingenuous to say I didn’t feel this way last season, because until the restart I was at the game, and prior to that I was still an outspoken opponent of VAR. I hated the restart as I had to watch my team win the league on TV – it was shit!
And of course STILL being on furlough and doubts as to whether my job and company will survive the lockdown do not help my mood. Sorry for the rant…my pals in the pub at Anfield would normally be copping it but I’ve barely seen them in a year. Roll on the cricket on Wednesday…as yet, unspoiled by the lawmakers of the game.

Presumably that Upmenacano has got to be better than he’s shown tonight. He looks woeful

Yeah, it’s gone a bit quiet, hasn’t it? I’m as guilty as anyone…just been in a sulk since Sunday! Sadly I think we’ve lost a few of the Liverpool fans like Mak and threeps, for some reason. I guess mainly because they prefer posting on an exclusively Liverpool thread. Mikus is like me and posts infrequently and only Nil is a regular Liverpool poster. Mind you, it’s alot easier posting when we’re doing well!
As for this FA Cup thread, last night’s game was so deadly boring, there’s really little to say about it, other than the fact that United are a country mile behind City

Apparently Klopp’s Mum passed away the night of the Burnley game and the funeral was yesterday. If true, it kind of puts things in to perspective. He couldn’t get back to Germany because of Covid restrictions. Poor fella. It maybe explains why he has been somewhat prickly in recent weeks.

Pagan – yeah, I read somewhere this morning that there has been a Prem, FA Cup or Carabou Cup live game on for 24 out of the last 27 days. I know we need entertaining during lockdown, but it is getting ridiculous, and I think the football is getting worse (not just Liverpool!). There really should have been no Carabou Cup this season and no international breaks – that would have made it less congested

Ed – we were missing Mane and more importantly Allison against Villa, but I take your point. The Villa game was 2 weeks before the Everton game, but I still feel that the kick in the b*****x (or the knee) that we got at Goodison derailed us more. We played well against Everton, and if we’d come through that with 3 points and VVD still fit, things may have been different. It’s all ifs and buts, of course, and it doesn’t alter the fact that we are in a trough right now, and it’s going to be difficult to get out of it in the next week or two.
Pagan – it’s interesting what you say about Klopp, and you may very well be right. I do think that he doesn’t look like he’s enjoying the job very much at the moment. I think he’s missing the crowd as much as the crowd is missing him. And somewhat controversially, I’m going to say that the team are missing their crowd more than most other teams. I expect that comment to raise a few shackles amongst other fans, but I firmly believe that to be true. As a match going fan for 50 years now, apart from the last 11 months, I think the connect between this team and it’s fans is greater than any I’ve known. It’s something I don’t expect many to agree with on here, and it is something that I cannot factually back up of course.
The bottom line is that there is something wrong at the moment, and it’s probably a combination of things all in all.

And please….Divvy scoring goals in the CL semi and final should have been his final acts as a Liverpool player. Dont want to see him again in a red shirt. Use Minamino a bit more till Jota is fit.
