It’s slightly different for Arsenal though, as if they stand firm they will lose them both for nothing in the summer, as they are both out of contract. We are not and should get just as much in the summer as we will in January

But beni, you must agree we will miss him, surely? He has been really good for us this season, and any replacement we get in will have to hit the ground running to adequately replace him. I also worry that Bobby’s form may be affected. He’s always played better when his mate Phil is on the pitch.

3rd January 2018 at 7:49 am in reply to: Wednesday Night Footy (and maybe Thursday… whatever!) #10894Going back to the ’50’s I believe that matches were played on Christmas Day and then the reverse fixture was played on Boxing Day. It obviously used to be mainly the local matches that were scheduled at this time, like Burnley v Blackburn, but that really IS a tough schedule!!
I think that is right and I’ve not made that up…perhaps Brian can confirm that did happen?

2nd January 2018 at 9:50 pm in reply to: Wednesday Night Footy (and maybe Thursday… whatever!) #10886999 – why is it ridiculous Spurs are playing tonight and Thursday? Liverpool and others played Saturday and Monday

Mav…bloody hope not, but who knows? Maybe the club said to him in August that they would let him go in January. It just wouldn’t make sense on so many levels though…we need him more than Barca, he’s Cup-tied in the Champions League, and he could leave with everyone’s blessing in June, but maybe that doesn’t matter to players, and is only relevant in the fan’s eyes!

Big corporate giants like Nike don’t make mistakes like this, so it is difficult to see where it has come from other than Barcelona or Phil himself giving Nike the information. If that is the case then either or both of them are out of order. We all know he’s going to go in the summer which I believe everyone would accept, but if he does go in January then the club will have alot to answer for in my opinion.
And I don’t buy this latest ‘injury’ either…worrying times for Liverpool fans!

29th December 2017 at 2:04 pm in reply to: We get slagged off. Liverpool how great to spend £75m #10376Adlab…my point is that the majority of the reports I have seen since we bought VVD have been dismissive of the fee we have paid, saying it’s far too much etc. I don’t think the press have been eulogising this deal at all. And I also think the days of Mourinho been eulogised by the press are thankfully long gone. They’ve at last seen him for what he is. Dyche is eulogised because he is English, and frankly has done a great job with his resources. But I also think that Pep is given an awful lot of credit, quite rightly I might add, for the job he is doing at City, so I would disagree with your assertion that the media are against City. I haven’t heard any criticism against City – everyone recognises what a fantastic team they are this season, including the media.

28th December 2017 at 4:28 pm in reply to: "He's coming home, he's coming home, he's coming, Van Dijk's coming home" #10280I don’t think there is a Liverpool fan in the world who doesn’t expect Coutinho to go to Barcelona, and you’re right that the VVD fee is being covered by Phil’s fee, but I say again, it’s nothing we didn’t know 4 months ago.

Cheers PPT. Good luck yourself, though I don’t think you’ll need it. I heard the other day that City are 33/1 to win the quadruple, which doesn’t sound abad bet to me. Unlikely, I know, but at 33/1 you’d expect unlikely. You’ve already won the league, semi finals of League Cup, good draw in Championds League…what do you reckon?

27th December 2017 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Christmas and New year fixtures up until 4th Jan (Including Predictions) #10123…but we wouldn’t have a game if we didn’t have referees. Of course they make mistakes but show me anyone, in any field, that doesn’t. It’s frustrating when the decisions go against your team, but you just have to hope that they at least even out over a season or even better fall in your favour.
100% agree with Pagan. Enjoy the game, have a moan if the decision is wrong, but believe the refs are honest, and that they do their best to eradicate those mistakes. Don’t blame them, blame their employers for not finding better ones!

Again, I think they are different players. Aguero is a sensational finisher, Sanchez workrate appears to be greater, and probably has more assists than Aguero. But Sanchez has undoubtedly downed tools, and for that he loses points in my mind. So Aguero for me, though like Pep and Man City, he is not a Klopp/Liverpool player whereas Sanchez probably is

PPT – at the game yesterday, we were commenting that he has got rid of the inconsistency out of his game. You”re absolutely right that for his first few years at Anfield he was very hit and miss, but I think the last 12 months we have seen a different player…more mature and crucially has had the team revolve round him. Prior to that he could abdicate the responsibility on to the likes of Suarez and Gerrard. He’s now stepped up to be the main man.
It’s just a shame for us, and maybe the Premiership, that he will end up at Barcelona, but hopefully not until the summer. Comparing players is a futile exercise in my opinion, but all I would say is that KDB and David Silva are right up there as the cream of the crop in the Prem, but I now would put Phil and Hazard right up there with them, along with the likes of Kane, De Gea and Aguero. Maybe Salah also if he maintains his form
