Jim – yeah, well let us know. It would be good to meet up for a couple of pints, put a face to the name and watch a bit of football.
And Nil, I thought Messi had changed his decision on retiring from international football

Have Bellamy and Hartson got their qualifications and/or experience?
My issue with it all is that Neville got the job because of his name, not his ability to do the job. I’m told his knowledge of women’s football is negligible at best. Ideally the job should have gone to a woman, an English woman, and if there wasn’t a suitable candidate (and I do believe that a number of suitable women have recently got top profile club roles) then go for a candidate who is working currently and not just pontificating on TV. There must be better qualified coaches in both the women’s and men’s game who would have loved the opportunity to coach the national team.

I’m sorry to hear that, Sean, also.
If everyone on here agreed with each other all the time, it would make for a very boring forum. There has to be debate, disagreements, and yes, wind ups and that dreaded banter. I would just like to say, I love you all, even though most of you are just wrong about everything almost all of the time!

Alfie – I can’t believe no-one better qualified than Neville wanted the job

Adlab – I really think you are seeing this wrong. Man City, and Pep, have had loads of praise (quite rightly, I may add) this season.. There has been plenty of talk both on TV and in the papers as to whether they are the best team ever and that doesn’t happen if people have an agenda against you. You losing last week to us was big news, of course it was, because you hadn’t lost all season. As Sean says above and Beni, the Liverpool defence have been getting pelters all season (again quite rightly!), and Klopp has copped his fair share of stick from all and sundry about his apparent inability to sort out the defensive problems. And alot of that stick has come from those ex-Liverpool pundits that you are talking about, like Carra, Murphy, redknapp and Souness
And I think the press love-in with Mourinho ended some time ago, if I’m honest. People are fed up with his miserable and arrogant demeanour, and I reckon he is seen as yesterday’s man and has been overtaken by the likes of Pep, Jurgen and Poch

It’s the press just trying to keep things interesting

I’ve already argued against VAR in an earlier post and I think it was only Pagan who agreed with me and was against it.
But last night summed up it’s problems…while it is being used for sorting out decisions that are subjective, like penalty decisions, diving etc it is fraught with problems. Limit it to the things it can decide definitively like offside, and leave the subjective decisions to the guy on the field. Nobody has aclue what is going on at the moment

18th January 2018 at 7:59 am in reply to: Players away from your supporting team that have impressed you the most ? #12914Good shout for Son. He’s sensational at the moment.
Wilfred Zaha as well, though he does like a tumble sometimes

So if it’s ‘only’ £20m net, I can’t believe we can’t spend some more! I’m with you, Mak. Karius really concerns me. A choice between Migs and Karius, and it would be Migs every time. But that says more about Karius than it does about Migs.
We have got ourselves in to a good position and now with Karius confirmed as our No. 1, we are risking blowing it in all 3 competitions that we are still in. I suppose Klopp’s argument is that there is no-one available that he really wants, and I guess his record in the market has earned him our trust. But from the outside, I’m with you Mak, it looks a no brainer

I thought everybody was raving about Lingard. He’s certainly scored some good goals recently

I reckon he’d be a decent third choice centre back, but he’s hardly a world beater, and no better than what you’ve got already IMHO

Adlab – I don’t think the media have Liverpool down as Champuions. I think that it would have been then case whoever finally beat you that they were going to get praise, and quite rightly in my opinion. Particularly as it was such a fantastic exciting game.
I have to say that yesterday’s game was just a breath of fresh air…it was really 2 teams, led by two managers, who only know of one way to play. It was full blown entertainment, great goals, no play acting, no diving, no brutal tackles, a dodgy defence at each end of the pitch, but also players on the pitch who would light up any football pitch in the world. For me, De Bruyne and Sane were the star men in the City team – I just love De Bruyne. He is a master, and Sane has the talent to become a true world star. What was also refreshing was Guardiola at the end of the game. If it had been Jose, he would have blamed the defeat on the ref, the linesmen, the FA, the weather, the fans, anyone but given no credit to the opposition, and to be fair, Wenger, Allardyce, Hughes, Rafa would have been similar. To lose with humility is an attractive trait, and even though pep doesn’t have alot of practice at it, he has mastered it.
As for my team, with the excception of our keeper, we pretty much all performed at our maximum. Mistakes from young Gomez and Lovren tainted the euphoria a little, but not much I have to say. Emre Can at last showed why Juventus are after him, Andrew Robertson showed why he just could be the bargain of the season, Gini Wijnaldum won the ball, then deliberately gave it away just so he could win it back again, and the Ox showed just how poor a coaching set up they have at the Emirates. And it was all done without a real star performance from our player of the season, Mo Salah.
It was a game that will live in my memory for quite some time, though I can understand if the City boys are not quite so exultant about yesterday’s match, but I do hope that if you can forget the result for a a moment, you can appreciate a match that reminds us why we all love football.

Think there may be an influx of TT posters on here in next few days. They have technical issues once again that are making that site unusable at the moment
