I know what you mean, Sean, we could just as easily lose the tie 4-0 as win the tie 4-0. I know very little about Porto but I understand they are bang in form and an attacking side like us. I’m just basing my prediction on Mo and Bobby’s form really, and hopefully VVD making a difference at the back. I will be gutted if we do go out, but I would have taken last 16 if offered it at the beginning of the season.

12th February 2018 at 4:58 pm in reply to: Champions League: "It's a Knockout" Stage (Goonies need not apply) #15351So what are everyone’s predictions for the last 8 of the Champions League? And what are the odds of all 5 English clubs getting through? Obviously Spurs and particularly Chelsea have really tough ties, but it would be quite something if 4 or 5 of the teams did get through.
My predictions for what they are worth… Spurs, Man City, Liverpool, PSG, Bayern, Barcelona, Manu and Roma.
And if that’s the case, everyone will be praying to draw Roma, I would imagine._____________________________

As Pax, 999, Sean, Mak and others have said yesterday was pretty much a perfect day for Liverpool fans. A thoroughly professional performance without expending too much energy prior to the Porto game on Wednesday night. No injuries, Karius’ best game for us by a distance (not that that is saying much admittedly, but maybe Jurgen’s vote of confidence is bearing fruit), VVD looking a calming influence at the back, and our magicians, Mo and Bobby, just on fire up top.
I’ve been saying for a while that second place is up for grabs, and though I still believe Spurs will get it, we’re definitely in with a good shout. Of the top 6 we only have Manu and Chelsea to play, both away, while everyone else have still to play City, I believe, and of course we have no FA Cup to distract us.
As it stands, my top 6 prediction would be City, Spurs, Liverpool, Manu, Chelsea and Arsenal.
And my last word on Nil…it’s a shame, he’s probably a decent lad and sometimes when he went off on one, it was actually quite funny, but when he makes a match thread all about himself such a short time after the match and has a go at other fans posting on a Liverpool thread, it is just simply pathetic. As Mak said, there aren’t enough Liverpool fans on here to warrant a Liverpool only forum. He just craves attention, I’m afraid. I wish you well, lad, if you’re reading this, but you’ve brought it on yourself, and I sense from the Ed that he has lost patience with you finally this time.

Hi Jim – is it at the stadium across the way from the Etihad?

Mak – Gomez is out for tomorrow I believe, so presumably Trent will step in, but In agree with the rest of your team, though maybe Hendo in for Gini or the Ox.
I think we would rather Arsenal have taken something from Spurs today. While I agree that Arsenal are now virtually out of it, I see Spurs as a big danger. In fact I would put money on them finishing 2nd ahead of Manu as well. I actually believe it’s between us, Manu and Chelsea for the other two places, and you’d fancy those latter two to pick up full points this weekend, so again it’s a must-win tomorrow. Would be nice if we could be 3 up at half time and then we could rest players for Wednesday, but this is Liverpool and that never happens!

Pagan – thanks for the reply. I don’t think there is any doubt that if Karius had picked it up from Lovren’s wild swing, it would not have been deemed a back pass, but my point is that should Kane not have been called offside at the point of Lovren’s swing because he was affecting play by being there? It really is open to interpretation any way you look at it, and even the ex-refs I’ve heard on the radio today haven’t uniformally agreed.
But it’s great – it’s an argument we can all have, and moan that we’ve been hard done to or we’ve been lucky, and for me another reason not to have VAR!

Just another great entertaining game of football, providing us with conflicting emotions, great goals. controversy, and talking points…or ranting points.
I love Nil’s rants – they are just so nonsensical and rambling garbage, they honestly make me laugh.
As for the game…in real time at the game, I thought the first pen was nailed on and the second was iffy…until I saw the highlights later in the evening (about the same time Nil was hitting the Babycham, I guess). Now I would say the second one was a definite pen, but how the first one is not offside is beyond me.. Whoever it was who passed the ball forward to Kane had him as part of that play. Lovren realised swung a boot at the ball, and as is Lovren’s wont, misses or at least only slices the ball. Now that touch is the thing that puts Kane onside as I understand it, but surely that’s part of the same phase of play. The passer of the ball wouldn’t have played if Kane hadn’t been there. I genuinely don’t understand the rule if Kane is not considered to be part of the phase of play. Anyway, the penalty was saved, so I guess it doesn’t matter. But if anyone can explain it, please do!
Having said all that, a draw was a fair result. 2 wonderful goals from Wanyama and Salah’s second, which in my world should have been the Messi-like winner we are talking about today.
Anyway, where’s the Cherry B?

Really important game, but I think the whole race for the top 4 is too close to call, and make no mistake Man Utd are at risk of missing out like the rest of us. We’ve played City twice already. I think the others still have to play them. We’ve got Utd and Chelsea away to come as six pointers. So this is one of the real big games left for this season and it’s just too close to call, but I think my money would be on Spurs for Sunday and for them to get in the top 4

As someone who was at the game last night, and as someone whose team the VAR helped last night, I can categorically state the system is a bloody farce. Stood on the Kop, we and no-one around us had a clue what was going on, what the Baggies goal was ruled out for, and even the Salah penalty which was down the far end of the ground, people were asking around me while the decision was being made, would VAR decide it would have to be either a penalty or Salah would get punished for diving (is that a booking, a sending off??).
Football is a simple game, decisions are sometimes got wrong, but don’t make the game more complicated. The time spent coming to the decisions was ridiculous and the unanimous opinions around me last night was that it didn’t add to the game. It broke the flow, it broke the momentum, but most importantly, no-one inside the stadium, including the players and the managers knew what was happening, and that surely can’t be right.

I should point out I’m not a barman!! I just sell the beer to the pubs!
But I’m glad there are some beer fans on here – too many kids today aren’t.
