Nothing wrong with VAR? Apart from the ridiculous delay in decision making, apart from the uncertainty over what decisions it’s meant to review (clear and obvious mistakes!), apart from as Wagner said yesterday taking all the emotion out of the game, apart from alienating the matchgoing crowd who haven’t a clue what is going on, apart from still arguably getting the decisions wrong, and all those reasons before I throw in that they can’t draw straight lines. I wish they’s just bin the bloody thing.

It’s in real danger of ruining the game. The game’s not broken, so just leave it alone. It’s farcical

Now, now Jim. That is an antagonistic post, just designed to rile us Liverpool fans on here!! You wouldn’t have done that if Nil was still treading these boards!! Smiley face!!

16th February 2018 at 6:45 pm in reply to: The Summer Transfer Window – Early days but important #15798Ah OK. Still can’t see it making much of a difference. What is the financial difference between 2nd and 3rd as a matter of interest?
PS did you miss my asp joke? OK a very little joke but was just trying to keep the Egyptian pharaoh thing going!

I don’t really understand your question. Are you asking whether how we finish this season will have an impact on our spending in the summer?

16th February 2018 at 5:25 pm in reply to: The Summer Transfer Window – Early days but important #15789Mav – Who’d have Sturridge now, I’m afraid? Markovic – well, as you say, remember them? Unfortunately, football clubs around Europe appear to have forgotten him also! (with good reason, I may add) As for Origi, well we may get a few quid for him, but he’s hardly pulling up trees on his loan at Wolfsburg, so £15-20m at the most I would guess.
As for Migs, Dejan, Albie and Klavan – well, I can possibly see Moreno staying as a back-up to Robertson, Migs is on his way definitely, Klavan we’ll get no money for though as a fouth or even fifth choice I wouldn’t be unhappy keeping him, and then there is the enigma that is Lovren. Alongside VVD he has actually looked really good – maybe he just needed bossing around on the pitch and the chance to play as the right sided centre back instead of left. As Mak said in a post, you always feel there is a mistake around the corner from him, but I thought he was excellent against Porto, and his role appears to now be the centre back who attacks the ball, while VVD is more of the covering defender. The jury is still out, but considering he was on Death Row as far as most Liverpool fans were concerned, it’s some comeback from him!
So I still say £120m max, regardless of any sales, unless of course there is a disaster and we sell our Egyptian king!!

16th February 2018 at 4:29 pm in reply to: The Summer Transfer Window – Early days but important #15784I think it is very early to be talking Karius up as securing the No 1 position on a permanent basis. He’s had a couple of half decent games, that is it.
Mav – like it or not (and I don’t) Liverpool haven’t got as big a budget as some of our rivals, and I just can’t see him blowing £70m on a keeper, Coutinho money notwithstanding. My prediction is that he won’t spend more than a ‘measly’ £100-120m in the summer, and out of that he has to get another midfielder to replace Can, a back-up striker to replace Sturridge, a back-up winger in case God forbid Salah or Mane blow up, and possibly a reserve left back, as well as a keeper, first choice or not. I may be wrong but £70m on a keeper wouldn’t fit with our finances.

999 – We won’t be getting 10 days before the Utd game, we play Porto at home on the Tuesday night before it, though my guess is that Klopp will rest a few players that night!
As for this weekend, I agree it’s probably not a bad thing for the squad not to be playing this weekend, but as a fan, it’s hard not to see the other games with just a tinge of jealousy, and trips to Wembley are good fun!

16th February 2018 at 2:49 pm in reply to: The Summer Transfer Window – Early days but important #15768Can’t see us paying that much for a keeper, but it is certainly one of the positions that we will definitely be spending money on in the summer.

14th February 2018 at 10:20 pm in reply to: Champions League: "It's a Knockout" Stage (Goonies need not apply) #15653Absolutely stunning result for us tonight and a great performance after a nervous first 10 minutes. Couldn’t ask for more and outscored City!!! Only kidding my City cyber friends! So that’s City, Liverpool and probably Spurs through. Going to be an interesting draw for the quarters!

14th February 2018 at 4:13 pm in reply to: Champions League: "It's a Knockout" Stage (Goonies need not apply) #15618Sean – I know what you mean…I’m nervous about tonight as well. When the draw was made we were all happy as there were trickier teams out there that we could have got, but I hope we’re not underestimating Porto. Apparently there are on fire at the moment and play graet attacking football. As ever, the first goal is so important, and hopefully VVD will organise the defence.
I’m hoping for an away goal (or two), and a good solid performance from our defence (and midfield). Hendo, Gini and Milner to start for me, and the rest of the team picks itself.

Beni – I know supporting a Pardew side really doesn’t come easy, does it? Dettol afterwards works, I believe. Hoping for Studge to remember who his parent club is tonight!!
