Ed – you don’t think it’s been one of Firmino’s best seasons? Really?

I know I’m biased but I would have had Firmino in for Aguero. Aguero is a truly fantastic player but I don’t think he’s had his best season. Admittedly not a bad season, but not totally outstanding. Is that fair?
And if it’s meant to be a team, I think Firmino would play more effectively with Kane than Aguero would.
And I think there should be at least one Burnley player in there…Pope or one of the centre backs?
I imagine my City friends on here won’t agree with me!

Yeah but no-one rates him now outside of Liverpool. Yet he was one of our best players in both matches against City recently, actually out-defending VVD in my humble opinion!

Mav – how can Lovren be overrated when no-one seems to rate him??? Yeah, and sorry about the 3 posts – I don’t feel that strongly about Lovren really – was just having issues with my phone!!

442- I’d agree with your 3 to go to Russia but I’d start with Pickford. Pope hasn’t made his debut yet and with only a couple of warm up games early June, I’d keep him as the No.2. I don’t really see that Pickford has done too much wrong, and to me he looks a class keeper, even if he is an Evertonian.

mwake – good to hear from you! You should post here more often!
While the race for the CL places is never over till it’s over, we only really need 5 points from our remaining 4 games. I know we like making it difficult for ourselves, but even we shouldn’t find that too difficult. Having said that, it would be nice to do it asap!

Bit harsh on Lovren, Mav. If u want a Liverpool centre back, can I propose Matip ahead of Lovren. Other than a well publicised nightmare at Wembley and a mini nightmare against United, he’s been pretty good, certainly since VVD arrived at the club.
As a rserve keeper in your flop squad can I propose Cech? Really showing signs of being past his sell by date.

Couldn’t agree more, Brian. CAR is a disaster waiting to happen…and on the biggest stage of a World Cup as well. It’s a farce

17th April 2018 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Is there a better all round player in the Premiership? #20543Ed…I don’t think he is a regular in the starting line-up, but I guess it’s true to say that while he is a perfect fit for the way Klopp sets up his team, he may not suit Brazil’s style of play

The United fans I talk to are more upset with the style of play than where they have finished in the league. As 999 says, they are likely to finish 2nd in the league, so the 18 teams below should be even more ashamed. However, the football offered up by Spurs and Liverpool when compared to the football on view at Old Trafford is the big thing. There is no real difference between 2nd and 4th, and even though United may well win the FA Cup this season, no United fan would call this season a success, as almost by any measure the club has stagnated this season, and the United fans can see that. The colossal amounts of money spent should allow fans to at least see some exciting football. Even though my team will possibly end up with no silverware (again) this season, we have been on a journey that has been supremely entertaining this year, with some unforgettable occasions, and that is what you want as a fan. I guess I can live with no silverware if you finish a season feeling you have progressed and entertained.

Chucky / Brian – I’m an old fuddy duddy as much as any man, But surely you guys cant say that fan behaviour is worse now than it was in the 70’s and 80’s. Agreed that you still get your fair share of idiots at matches, but football is generally far safer to watch now than it was back then. And the idiots at the football now are just a reflection of the idiots in society in general. In my opinion, Anfield, Old Trafford, the Etihad et al are far safer now than they were then, while Deansgate or Bold Street are far more dangerous on a Saturday night now than they were in the 80’s.
The crap about Pogba’s latest haircut or Joey Barton’s latest tweet is crap, I agree, but football just reflects the 24hr news feeds that we now have to fill – most of it is junk – but football behaviour surely is better, off the pitch at least. And probably on the pitch as well, thinking of the Tommy Smiths, Norman Hunters and Ron Harris’ of the ’70’s when they glorified in their images of hard men. One thing that has got progressively worse is play-acting, but it has certainly been about since the early 70’s when I started watching football. Your very own Franny Lee being one of the first that I remember. But football is still a beautiful game at it’s best. Just in the past 25 years or so, the likes of Henry, Okocha, Suarez, Kinkladze, Gascoigne, Silva and now, Salah have done things with a football that still get me out of my seat.

Sorry, Brian, I don’t understand your point regarding policing. Fan’s behaviour in a safe standing area should not be an issue, as it wasn’t at Hillsborough, where the police let themselves down initially by not channelling the fans in to the side sections. The new proposed safe standing areas would presumably just be in the main home fan area, like the Kop, the Gwladys St End or the Stretford end. You shouldn’t require any more policing or stewarding than there currently is. Everyone on the Kop stands anyway for large parts of games, or all the game in the case of the City game last week, and there was no issue with fan behaviour. It is far more dangerous standing in a seated area than it would be in a safe standing area without question. When we scored our first last week, I disappeared over the back of my seat which could have been dangerous if I was a child.
