Nil – it may have escaped your notice but we are challenging for the title of Champions of Europe, and yes, with Karius in nets!!
I know what you mean though, he’s possible not the longterm answer, though I thought his handling, catching, punching and kicking was pretty good last night, though he was at fault for Roma’s 2nd and was lucky not to concede a penalty.
Anyway I’ve got the mother of all hangovers, and now have to somehow break it to the wife that it’s going to be a more expensive month than I thought it would be! Kiev, here I come!

2nd May 2018 at 4:56 pm in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 2nd Leg Roma V Liverpool – Weds 19:45 #21219Jeez, I’m nervous about tonight. Work has really suffered today! Can’t face watching the game in a Manc pub where there will suddenly be a host of Roma fans, so off to Southport now to watch the game with my match going buddies. The odd glass of ale may pass my lips tonight so back on here tomorrow, hopefully with a happy hangover!
See ya later!

Stop the self pity. There has been plenty of positivity on here since last Tuesday. How could there not be?

25th April 2018 at 9:18 am in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #20933Chelsea man – we’re not there yet! But if I was pushed I would prefer Bayern. Madrid, while not the force they were, still know how to win finals and in Ronaldo have a player who can win the game by himself.

25th April 2018 at 9:16 am in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #20932The Albert pub where the trouble was last night is literally yards from the entrance to the Kop, and we walked past the pub when it was all cordoned off with ambulances and police there about 7.25pm last night. We wondered what had gone on, and must have only missed the trouble by a few minutes. I heard that a large group of youngish, all dressed the same Roma fans charged out of a side street and started randomly attacking Liverpool fans making their way in to the ground. This wasn’t hooligan on hooligan, but a random attack by tooled up thugs. I hope the 53 year old from Ireland pulls through, and my thoughts are with him and his family. I’m now glad I haven’t qualified for a ticket for the away leg!

Not that I’m particularly concerned about the World Cup, I guess he is, and I really feel for the lad. I would imagine that is the last we will see of him till next season, so best wishes for a speedy recovery.

25th April 2018 at 8:54 am in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #20929Well, it’s an odd feeling walking out of a Champions League semi-final, having won 5-2 with some breathtaking football, and still feeling somewhat deflated!
For the middle hour of that game, we were just simply sensational…as good as I have ever seen a Liverpool side play…and I’ve been watching them live for nearly 50 years now. Roma are no mugs and yet for that middle hour we absolutely annihalated them. Of course we should and could have put the game out of sight, and those two late goals just leaves the tie still alive…just.
Words fail me about Salah and Firmino. There is a justified and valid excuse for saying Mo is currently the best player in the world, and it’s not just his goals. His control, his touch, his vision, his speed and even his strength are just phenomenal, and for me, Firmino isn’t that far behind. They are just a joy to watch.
And a big shout out also to our midfield where Milner, Hendo and Gini bossed the game.
Just wish we’d kept it tighter for the last 10 minutes. Oh well, this is why I just love the game of football!

24th April 2018 at 3:51 pm in reply to: Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg – Liverpool V Roma – Tues 7:45 #20905Cheers, Ed. Well excited, I must admit. About to have my lucky sausage, bacon and egg butty, and then off to Anfield. P’ing down with rain here in Manchester, so Jurgen shouldn’t have adry pitch to complain about tonight. Hate making predictions, but a narrow victory with no away goals is what I’m going for.. As a matter of interest, who do the non-Liverpool fans want to win this tie? I have to confess, were it Man Utd or Chelsea playing in this semi-final, I’d be wearing my Roma top tonight! Puerile and immature? Guilty as charged!
Anyway, thanks for the good wishes, and see you tomorrow, hopefully as a Happy Hightown hope!

999…the Champions League is seen as the greatest club competition in the world, and last July Liverpool would have been, at a guess, 10th-15th favourites to win it, after probably all 4 English clubs, both Madrid clubs, Barca, PSG, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and probably seen at around the same level as Napoli, Roma, Dortmund, Sevilla etc.
While I’m not knocking Pep at all, he’s a genius, City were hot favourites to win the Premier League, maybe not by the amount they have won it, but strong favourites nonetheless. He’s done a great job, no one is disputing that. I just believe that if Klopp somehow pulls off a Champions League win in May, and it’s a big if, then that achievement I’d quite phenomenal. In August our best player was angling for a move away, and we’d royally f***** up our pursuit of our No.1 target. And you think it’s luck we’ve got as far as we have? Top achievement for me that should get him Manager of the Year

It’s kind of ironic that we’re all having a go at the PFA etc for having their awards before the end of the season, and we’re doing exactly the same!! For example, if Klopp were to lead Liverpool to victory in Kiev next month, then in my humble and somewhat biased opinion, his achievement would be greater than Pep’s.
Am I wrong?

Brian – my point exactly about Aguero. He’s had better seasons, and probably should have got POY then rather than now, when he’s had, by his own incredibly high standards, a discernible drop off. I’m a big fan of Aguero, but I just think that this season Firmino has had a better one!

And Brazil, you keep picking your rubbish centre-forwards like Fred, Jo, Bert, Alf, Stan or whoever, and Firmino can remain with us as the best-kept secret in football.
Kane has somehow found his way onto the Young Player shortlist too, even though heβs 25 in a few months. 25!
Presumably he insisted he was only 19 and everyone went along with it because βHarry Kane is an honest lad and if he says heβs 19, then thatβs good enough for me.β I expect heβll find his way onto the Manager of the Year list as well.

No worries, Ed! I thought you had to mean that because it has been Firmino’s best season by a distance!

That Whoscored.com team is far more to my taste. I’ve got Firmino, Pope and a Burnley center back in my team!!
