Talking of unfit, has anyone seen the pictures knocking around of Lukaku when he was at Chelsea next to the pictures of him now? The size/weight increase is absolutely incredible. No-one can tell me that he is not overweight

I’m hoping Spurs can take something off City tonight, but I just can’t see it. Maybe the pitch and the state it is in will be a leveller? I actually think that Spurs best hope is that City go to Wembley with the same policy they had when they came to Anfield a few weeks ago. That day neither Klopp nor Pep were prepared to risk losing and were both happy to settle for a point – though admittedly we did come awful close to not even getting that. So if City are going there not to lose there is a chance Spurs may get a point, but City really are that good I can’t see it happening, and of course Spurs will have to cope with KDB, which we didn’t thankfully

They’re pretty well paid now, I believe. It is a thankless job though, you’re right Chucky. And with the game seeming to get quicker every year, the job gets harder. I can still see no reason why they shouldn’t have a ref in each half. Got to be better than the Harry Potters behind the goal line in European games, who literally do nothing, as far as I can see.

Not having BT Sport at home, and there now being no ITV highlights programme, I don’t get to see any Champions League matches other than my own team, though I did catch half hour of the Spurs game in the pub outside Anfield.

So were United as shit as everyone seems to be making out, or were Juve really that good? Did City coast their game? How are Real and Barca looking, and Dortmund”s thrashing of Atletico caught the eye? Did anyone see anything of the PSG-Napoli game last night?

Bloody hate these subscription channels and I think it’s very short sighted not to have a free to air highlights programme.

I’m sure they do have fairly rigorous fitness tests on a regular basis. Maybe they’re just not rigorous enough. With the game being alot quicker now, what about the idea of a ref in each half?

Mav – I agree with you, he’s a fantastic player, and my favourite player in the Liverpool team. Having said that, he has been pretty woeful this season. When he came off the bench on Saturday against Huddersfield his 15 minutes or so were notable only for possibly the worst pass I have ever seen a professional footballer make. Shaquiri one side and Sturridge (I think) on the other, and under no pressure from 5 yards away he played it to the Huddersfield defender. I actually laughed when I saw it live.

However, he is quality, and a vital cog for Klopp’s style of football. But his mate has gone to the Nou Camp, and everybody has their price, I guess. I’d be very sorry to see him go though.

It was bloody difficult to qualify for the old format European Cup, but you’re right, that was the really difficult part over with once you’d qualified. One other point, 999, to pick you up on…1981 v Real Madrid wasn’t our last European Cup win. 1984 winning in against Roma on their home ground was our last triumph in the old format – now that was tough – playing a team in the final on their home ground!!

Overall we did have some luck, quite a lot in fact, but that first half was as good as I’ve seen England for many years. Really enjoyed the game. As I said during the game, it wasn’t played like a friendly. Even Carra likened the game to a Champions league match in its intensity

Adlab – I know I’m a trifle biased, but I think you’re wrong about Gomez, and so do the papers and the so-called experts. I thought he had an excellent and looked more assured than Maguire in all honesty. I do think with Stones, Maguire and Gomez, the centre back position is looking pretty good for a few years now.
