999, but that’s Mikus”s point. The Terry, Gerrard, Puyol etc would cost an enormous amount of money, but if there’s one manager in world football who does have access to that money, it is Pep, and he’s not bought that player

Sean / Mak – I still believe that if we win all our remaining games we’ll win the league. I read on This is Anfield that some theoretical algorithym done by Pro Score, some french football site rates Liverpool’s chance of winning the league at 60% to City’s at 40%. All bollox, I know, but Mak’s right, Sean, we are right in the mix, and have as good a chance as City of winning it. Who will blink first?

‘Clear and obvious mistakes’. That is what VAR was brought in to sort out. None of those issues last night were clear and obvious as half the decisions they make ate still subjective and a matter of opinion. It’s crap
But anyway looking forward, 2 good semi finals coming up, and the big question of what effect will last night’s result have on City. I kind of think it will spur them on in the league as there is a real danger their season will be seen as a failure if they don’t win the league. Also emotionally and physically Spurs must be spent after last night so it may be difficult to lift themselves again. But God, I’d love them to help us on Saturday!!

Last night shows why VAR will kill bthis game we love. Takes all the spontaneity out of the game. We benefitted last night with Mane’s goal through VAR which watching at full speed 2 or 3 times it still seemed offside. But the defenders arse was playing him on, and for Sterling’s goal, again at full speed it looked ok. So for me, Mane’s goal should have been ruled out and Sterling’s goal should have stood. I’ve been banging on about VAR ruining the matchgoing fan’s experience, and nothing I saw last night changes my opinion, in fact it strengthens it. It’s a disaster that is about to happen.
But fantastic game at the Etihad, and congrats and commiserations to each set of fans. Banjo – see you in Madrid for the final!!

16th April 2019 at 5:19 pm in reply to: Week 33, maybe 34, don't know… this weekends football! #37730It’s alright you saying that, Brian, but like it or not, our fate is wrapped up in what City do over the next month, so you can’t blame Liverpool fans being preoccupied with what City do. As far as City are concerned, they CAN just concentrate on what they do in the next game, but we could win all our games and still not win the league, so yes, we do want favours from United, Spurs or whoever!

Mak – I think we have to be pleased with the season whatever happens in the next month. How can we not be? We’re going to end up with a record points total for us, it looks like we are going to be Champions League semi-finalists at least, we have sorted out our defence, we have a young team, we have 3 or 4 world class players in the team and the prospect of one or two more becoming world class over the next year or two, it seems that for the first time in a while we are not really in too much danger of losing any players we don’t want to lose over the summer, we’re playing great football by and large, and above all, we’re still right in the mix with 4 games to go. I still believe IF we win our last 4 games we will win the league. Of course, it will be massively disappointing if we miss out, but what a season!!

Steveo – I’m with you on Deeney. He is a thug and yet is held up by Watford and the media as being ‘Mr Watford’ and a role model for younger pros etc. The only thing I would say about him is he has made the most of what little talent he has

15th April 2019 at 4:35 pm in reply to: Week 33, maybe 34, don't know… this weekends football! #37677999 – after my dig at those Chelsea knobs in Prague last week, I’m happy to say the Chelsea fans were exemplary at Anfield yesterday, both during the silence for the 96, and also with a complete lack of racist abuse as far as I could tell. Credit where credit is due.
RIP the 96
A difficult day today when I look back 30 years to when I was a young man, and my pal and I set out to watch the semi-final on a beautiful Spring day. By the grace of God we were lucky. The 96 and their families weren’t so lucky. As always, my thoughts are with them.

12th April 2019 at 10:50 pm in reply to: Week 33, maybe 34, don't know… this weekends football! #37459Adlab – yeah, I saw him play for the last 6 or 7 years of his time at Liverpool, but I was only a kid and an early teenager so my heroes at the time were Kevin Keegan, John Toshack and Steve Heighway, so I’m afraid he never made that big an impression on me. I remember seeing Billy Bremner at a Sportsmans Dinner probably 20+ years ago and him telling a story of how in a game at Anfield he scythed down Emlyn Hughes early in a game with a sliding tackle leaving Emlyn rolling around. Billy looked up to see Tommy Smith come charging over and obviously he thought Tommy was out to wreak revenge. Instead Tommy leant over Billy, shook his hand and said, ‘Billy, I’ll buy you a pint after rthe game’ Tommy had never forgiven Emlyn for getting the captaincy over him, and their dislike of each other lasted pretty much up to Emlyn’s death, I believe.
He was a legend, and had the fairytale swansong by scoring the winning goal in the european Cup Final in Rome in 1977. RIP Tommy.

12th April 2019 at 4:08 pm in reply to: Week 33, maybe 34, don't know… this weekends football! #37432It’s Hazard that worries me about Sunday. He is a wonderful player, and as 999 said somewhere, he seems like he’s wanting to leave Chelsea on a high, and scoring the winner at Anfield would certainly endear him to many fans round the country. If we can keep him quiet, and that’s a big if, I fancy us 1-0 or maybe 2-1, but whatever, we won’t roll them over.
As a matter of irrelevant interest, who do the neutrals on this forum want to win the league, or do you truly have no preference? I guess the question is aimed at the Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea fans on here as Man Utd fans understandably have their own agendas. Fans of any other clubs who are on here, please contribute also!

999..if you read my post at 9.17am I re-worded my earlier post and apologised to all decent Chelsea fans. But I stand by my assertion that Chelsea appears to have a bigger problem than most

Chucky, you misunderstand me…I’m not painting all Chelsea fans with the same brush, and if I gave that impression, I’m sorry. My question was meant to ask whether the other Chelsea racist dickheads will take up the song. I would hope that the right minded among them will stop it, but I’m doubtful frankly. I know that each club has it’s fair share of these numbskulls, and I know that the majority of Chelsea fans are decent people. But that doesn’t alter the fact that Chelsea appear to have more of a problem than most.
My apologies to all decent Chelsea fans!

Where do these Chelsea fans get off on their inflammatory, racist crap? Just how dense and stupid are they? 3 fans denied entry to last night’s game because they were singing a disgusting and racist song about Salah? Will be interesting on Sunday to see if that song is sung by the rest of the neanderthols.

And Porto had a Torres and a Soares playing for them last night. I know Soares is spelt differently, but it made me laugh when the teams were read out over the tannoy last night!

As for our game, I thought it was a good professional performance without ever hitting the heights. Would have been nice to get the third to kill the tie off, but a nil victory in the quarter finals of the Championss League is okay with me. And there’s a game on Sunday that will be very tough and needs winning, so I can understand why we eased off in the second half.
I thought Henderson, Bobby and Keita were our stand out players, and with Keita scoring in successive games now, perhaps we do have a player after all. And a special word for two players who do not get alot of praise…Milner, asked once again to fill in at left back, worked tirelessly (where does he get his energy from?) and Lovren, in his first game for a while, had a good solid game. With Gomez back on the bench, we once again have options at centre back. Would have liked to have seen Shaq come on instead of Sturridge for the last 10 or 15 minutes, just to prove he is still at the club, but, hey ho, a good night, all in all
…and City still have a lot of work to do in their second leg!

Mak, I don’t think there is a chance in hell of Moreno starting. Doubt we’ll ever see him in a starting line-up for the Reds again. It’s got to be Milly surely!
