Come on, 999. We’re grown ups on here and therefore of course this is a relevant topic for conversation and debate. Some of us have very little interest in what happens between Leeds and Derby, but something like this upsets and aggravates a lot of people. Hillsborough affected very many people personally, myself included, and ‘always the victim’ is the line in the disgusting song sung by many opposition fans mocking the disaster. Courts of law have shown the causes. And as for Liverpool fans getting battered in the streets, that’s an obvious reference to Sean Cox, a decent guy over from Ireland with his brother to enjoy a game of football who suffered life changing injuries following the attack by Roma fans. I can only hope that the City players did not understand what they were singing, but I find that difficult to believe particularly for the English lads in the team and Sterling most of all having spent time at Anfield.
It really is indefensible and frankly I’m shocked that anyone is trying to defend it. I don’t mind a bit of piss taking and banter but this is just low.

…and I would humbly suggest that a bunch of club employees behaving like classless dicks singing these songs is of equal news worthiness as a bunch of dickheads throwing stuff at a bus.

Really, Adlab? The bus issue was discussed on here for days and weeks! And they were a bunch of dickheads. But I am genuinely surprised that the players would do something like that.

Is it fans or players?

I’ve not seen anything but I can’t believe the City players would sing a song about Sean Cox. As I say I’ve not seen it but the City players strike me as being a pretty decent bunch…KDB, David Silva and certainly Kompany would have put a stop to that surely.

Yeah…I want to add my congrats to the City lads on here. In fact gj and I are going to have our second date this week and I’ll let him buy me a pint as compensation! Great season fought to the end by two fantastic teams. Certainly our best team for over 30 years!

Many congrats to Spurs and especially TBA and Chucky (where is he, by the way?).
See you in Madrid, but like Sean and Mikus, I think you’ll give us a tougher game than Ajax would have done
Isn’t football great?

Mikus, I think you’re partly right about the high press…there probably have been times when we should have used it more, but for me, we can only do the high press really successfully when Fab is playing as the DM, and Hendo is employed further up to do the high press. When Hendo was the DM, we lost something at the high press…Gini and jimmy are not those kind of players. But Fab is an absolute rock at DM, as Mav said in an earlier post on this thread. Is there a better DM in the Prem? Kante’s not playing as one, I understand, so I can’t think of one – and to think he only came in to our team after 15 games or so. And Hendo has an unbelievable engine on him and is just superb at the high press. While he was functional as a DM, he’s proper class in his new role. I know he gets alot of stick, mostly from that self-obssessed idiot on TT, but he has really come in to his own the last couple of months and is a vital part of this team. So, Mikus, to answer your question, yes to the high press but only if those two are playing, and my guess is they will both start our remaining 2 games.
Anyway good luck to Spurs tonight, though being totally honest I would rather play Ajax in the final for a number of reasons. So I guess I’ll just hope it is as good an occasion as last night!

So the match itself…
The early goal was key, and we got it by high pressing again. The saves by Allison made my assertion on here a few weeks ago that he was overrated look very foolish. It was somehow apt that our keeper was largely responsible for last night’s success when looked at the events in Kiev with Karius. The standout performers for me were Allison, Trent, Matip, Hendo, Gini, Fab and Mane, but all of them showed a desire to fight for the cause, run till their legs dropped off, and the crowd was just magnificent. It eas a truly special night if you are a Liverpool fan, and for me, it beats Istanbul…for a couple of reasons. One, we were at our own home with the special atmosphere that generates. Two, we were up against a better team last night than Milan were in 2005. Three, we played far, far better than we did in 2005 where we good for about 6 minutes!! Four, we were up against the best player in the world (because that was what everyone was saying last week, so they can’t change that now by saying he’s too old etc…if he wasn’t last week, he ain’t now!). Five, the two ex-Liverpool players in the Barca ranks added to the occasion…Coutinho looked frankly terrified and Suarez was just the perfect villain of the piece! And we did it all without 2 of our very best players with another going off at half time. Imagine if we’d been at full strength!
Trent’s thinking for the corner for the fourth was just unbelievable. A 20 year old lad who hasn’t played anywhere near 100 games, the quick thinking and accuracy was amazing. Origi, bless him, not the most talented player in the world, a player we tried to offload last summer scores 2 goals in a Champions League semi final. He must think he’s dreaming!
So Sean and Oz, don’t give up on Sunday. 89th minute and we’re drawing and City are winning, I still won’t give up and nor will anyone else in the ground. This team have well and truly earned some faith from you lads!!

So where do I start? My apologies to all the non-Liverpool lads on here because I’m sure you’re getting sick of it all by now, but I’ve just got to put down my thoughts on last night.
That result last night, Sean and Oz, is why you should never, never give up on this team. They proved last night that they don’t know when they are beaten, and it is far and away the best Liverpool side since 1987 and before that 1978/9. The problem that has been raised time and again is that we are up against another side who are one of the best ever in City. But last night summed up our club…we don’t give up and when the chips are lined up against us, we just kick back harder. Against Roma in the final on their home ground, we won, against Olympiakos with 45 minutes to play and needing 3 goals, we won. Against Milan 3 down at half time we won. Against West Ham in the FA Cup Final in ’06 a goal down in to injury time, we won. Against Dortmund needing a goal with seconds to go, we won, and then obviously last night, the gretaest of all, against all odds, we won bossing probably 75% of the tie. Sure, we’ve cocked it up on occasions, but it is so wrong to say we always do or we’re cursed or any shit like that. Last night proves we are a special team and a special club.

Quite simply the best night I’ve ever had at Anfield in my 50 years of going there. In no condition to be remotely coherent so I’ll save boring you all about it till tomorrow!

I know, Mak, I saw that…I was cruising to victory at the top of the league when somebody came in last week straight to the top!! Is that you?

I haven’t read alot of this thread as I have been away since the game on wednesday night, but I’m seriously hoping Sean and Mak haven’t disappeared on us. From what I’ve read from going back a couple of pages I think Mak has been very reasonable in his summary of the game. We were unlucky on the night insofar as 3-0 in no way represented how the game went…except in the finishing of chances, and unfortunately that is how results are decided. How many other teams have more of the ball, more shots, more corners etc against Barca, especially at their own place? I’m dead proud of our performance the other night, and I’m still dreaming about the impossible. It’s not completely outlandish to imagine Liverpool being 2-0 up with 10 minutes to play next Tuesday. Look, like Mak, I know it’s 90% a pipedream, but you just never know! I’ll go on Tuesday hoping against hope.
So everyone can be emotional, everyone can take the piss, but I know Liverpool fans have had fun this season, and I wouldn’t swap places with any other fans at the moment, with the exception of City!!

Fuck me how did we lose that game…and 3-0? Is it just me or were we the better side? Until we were in their penalty area. If Mo had not hit the post at 3-1 I would have given us a chance. But how many teams out possession Barca esp on their own patch? More shots, more corners…fuck me, 3-0 looks like a battering but we so deserves something tonight….really proud of the lads. Fab, Matip, Mane all superb. Gutted and we’re probably out, but goal in first 10 next week and I’ll believe we can do it. Bit pissed in bar near Bilbao soaube I’ve seen game wrong????

It’s unlucky on Son and Hazard, but as threeps says they’re up against Aguero, Mane and Sterling and no-one can really quibble with their inclusion.

I would have had Wan-Bissaka of Palace in for Trent, and any of Wijnaldum, Milojevic, Ward-Prowse, Brooks, Fabinho, Sissoko, Moutinho, McNeil, in fact anybody, ahead of Pogba.
I also think there is an argument for Allison ahead of Ederson. More clean sheets, fewer goals conceded. On stats alone he’d be ahead of Ederson, even though some of you may remember a couple of weeks ago I put him forward as one of the most overrated players around, but on stats alone…?_____________________________

And without Champions League football and with Solksjaer at the helm they will find it difficult to attract the top players needed to drastically improve things. We were lucky insofar as somehow we managed to attract Klopp and in turn he attracted the players we needed. Klopp then performed his miracle on some of the existing players and bought very cleverly. OGS is not the manager, Woodward is not the DoF, Pogba is not the starman, Lukaku is not the goalscorer, and even after last night I doubt that De Gea is the keeper…to sort out the mess that is Man Utd. It’s fortunate for them that Chelsea and Arsenal are nearly as poor.
Anyway, that sounds like I’m gloating which I don’t really mean to do, but I was just gobsmacked just how poor they were last night, and what a big job they have ahead of them
