I was lucky enough to go to Kyiv in 2018 for the Champions League Final, and had a fantastic 3 days there, Beautiful, welcoming and friendly people. It’s just heart breaking seeing what is being done to them and their country by the megalomaniac Putin, who in a matter of weeks has taken Europe back to the 1930’s.
It’s so difficult to see a solution to this now, and Putin has shown his colours and the lengths he’ll go to. It’s frightening to think where this might end. My thoughts are with those in Ukraine and those who have family and friends there,

My God, how bad were Leeds? Sure, we were good, but we never got out of 3rd gear. Leeds will struggle to find 3 worse teams to finish above. Defensively they were a shambles and going forward they offered very little. Really poor side. But credit to their fans…they never stopped singing, but watching dross like that each week would wear you down.
As for us, well, momentum is a big thing in football, but you can lose quicker than you can gain it, so I’m not counting any chickens. But all areas of the team are on fire at the moment. Virgil seems back to his best, big Joel is THE most underrated centre half in the country, the full backs are flying, Thiago is just a dream to watch, Fab is a monster, and as for Mo…well, there aren’t words. And Diaz looks very exciting. It’s looking good at the moment, but we’ve won nothing yet!

You’re right, Mikus. In 2005 there wasn’t a City, Bayern or, dare I say it, Liverpool of today. There were some decent teams obviously, but no outstanding ones. Also today’s United don’t have a Steven Gerrard, a player who by sheer force of will could change a game. In fact that is exactly what United are missing now. When your ‘leaders’ are Harry Maguire, and ageing and egocentric Ronaldo and a hit and miss Bruno, you are, as far as I am concerned still lacking in leaders.
I would be absolutely astounded if United were to win the Champions League this season…it’s just not going to happen!

I think it inevitably means that at least one of Bobby, Mo or Sadio won’t be there next season

Dodgiest penalty ever! Very iffy last 65 minutes, but c’est la vie, we’ll take it. Keeps the season interesting for a little longer. But Mikus, you’re right. The amount of leads we’ve allowed slip this season suggests a lack of concentration or even complacency. Think they found the first 30 so easy and could almost have scored at will that they started strolling.

Mak…I’ve heard Elliott is not to far away. Resuming full training this week. Maybe bench appearance before end of month?

I used to love watching Coutinho at his best at Anfield. Worth a punt for Villa definitely, as Gerrard knows him and what he can do. Get the feeling Coutinho needs to be loved and he never got that at Barca or Bayern. Coul;d be a good move for both player and club.
Chucky is right also about Trippier. Interesting move as I would have thought he could do better than Newcastle. There must be other teams who could afford the fee of Β£12m, but maybe not the wages?? Good signing though…League winner and still first choice at Atletico, current international, and by all accounts, a ‘student’ of the game. Exactly what Newcastle need. But I bet there is a relegation clause in his contract!

So a ‘must win’ game for Liverpool on Sunday. It’s a Cup Final without the opportunity to win a trophy. I’ve a feeling though that City will end up winning the league by 10-15 points, and it is frightening to think that in all likelihood they’ll have Haaland next season. I’ll take Mbappe and Bellingham then!! Joking aside though, there are still things to play for this season. Champions League is definitely still up for grabs, and I actaully fancy our chances in that if we have a little luck and stay free from injuries, so my New Year predictions are…
EPL – Man City
Champions League – Liverpool
Carabao – Chelsea
FA Cup – Man City
Rest of top 4 – Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal
Relegated – Norwich, Newcastle and Watford
Player of the Year – SalahAnyway, Happy New Year to all on here, and I’ll leave you with my Dad joke of 2021
My New Year’s resolution is to give up aerosol deodorants as they are bad for the environment, so roll on 2022!

Tierney…joke ref! And why was Kane’s tackle not referred to the screen. Robbo was very clumsy but not as dangerous or malicious as Kane’s.

But Mikus, you can’t say she hasn’t achieved much. She may very well never achieve as much again in her career, but to win a Grand Slam at the age of 17 (18?) as a qualifier is an achievement of the highest order…surely.

‘Is Sterling really on that list?’
Yeah, Lucky, I was a little surprised. Had a good year for England, but until recently was struggling to get game time for his club, and therefore is nailed on for No. 6 for me.
You’re not having a vote then?

What a complete farce that Champions League draw was. Now while I donβt necessarily think it was fixed and they got caught out, it certainly does add fuel to the fire for those who think UEFA are a corrupt organisation. My club has certainly lost out in the re-draw. Undoubtedly we would have preferred Salzburg to Inter, and I would have fancied us 95 times out of a 100 to have gone through there, maybe more. Inter? Weβre still favourites, but it wouldnβt be the biggest shock in the world for them to beat us, Still give us a 75% of going through, but I preferred the odds against Salzburg, thatβs for sure

Such an important win for us on Saturday. Divvy is a truly remarkable character. So many times over the past few years I, and most of the rest of the ground, have groaned and moaned at his apparent lack of fight, desire, and, let’s face it, talent. But every time, he pops up with a vital goal, and boy, are they vital! Barcelona x 2, Champions League Final (yes, Chucky, your mob π€£π€£), Everton, Newcastle etc etc etc. Looking forward to the day I can take my grandkids to see his statue! π€£π€£

Don’t know, Mak…quite enjoying it being a 3 horse race myself! π€£π€£ but you’re right, I think Rangnick will undoubtedly improve United from the Ole days, but to be fair, that’s not difficult. I’m just looking forward to seeing what he does with Pogba. He’s got to be finished there, surely. Off to PSG where life will be nice and easy for him, no doubt.

Another really good performance this afternoon with Thiago, Fab and Jota outstanding. But a special word for Robbo…he played today like a man who knows his place is under threat. He was like a man possessed- such energy. His reaction to Tsimikas taking his place was exactly what you want as a manager and he reminded us today why many consider him the best left back in Europe. The bitters next!
Meanwhile if Manu and West Ham could help us out tomorrow…?

Breaking the habit of a lifetime and posting from the stadium at half time. We are really just going through the motions more interested in staying injury free. No problem with that but it’s not exactly exciting! William’s and Morton doing okay. Not so Minamino and Konate looking bit shaky as well

Excellent performance in the end yesterday, partly thanks to Arteta livening the crowd, and therefore the team up. Until then, it was pretty soporific, to be honest, but from 30 minutes on it was men against boys.
Tell you what also, Robbo will be looking over his shoulder at Tsimikas…another great performance from him yesterday. Robbo is going to have up his game, I reckon.
January and losing Mo and Sadio for a month plus really worries me though – just can’t see us coping without both of them for that length of time – one of them maybe, but both, definitely not, Will certainly need Bobby back and firing then and hope that Minamino or Divvy can provide soem sort of cover, but I have my doubts. Will we spend any money? Really think we need to, but have said that for 18 months now.
Anyway all good for now…let’s hope Rafa can do the business at the Etihad this afternoon, but can’t see that either.
