Mav – do you genuinely think that Liverpool’s pen yesterday shouldnt have been given? Aurier clearly kicked Mane on the back of the calf surely?

Thought it was a cracking game yesterday and our best performance of the season by a distance…and yet Spurs were a bar’s width from going 2-0 up, which I agree with posters above would have been very difficult to come back from.
Fabinho was my man of the match. He was everywhere, breaking up play, keeping things ticking over, and yet still finding the time to get an assist for Hendo’s goal. I thought he was superb, and how Sky gave it Mane I can’t understand. Lovren continues to be a worry, and the sooner Matip is back the better. When lovren is getting picked ahead of Gomez, it illustrates how far Gomez has fallen – and that’s a concern.
As for Spurs, apart from Son, who I believe is a fantastic player, I thought they were pretty disappointing. nEriksen, Alli, Kane were all poor, and am i alone in thinking what is the point of Harry Winks? Maybe I’ve missed something, but for me he has never really impressed…or maybe he is Spurs version of Hendo, and only really appreciated by his own fans.
Great game though, even for the neutral, I would imagine, and just on to the next one. It’s simmering up nicely for City’s visit!!

Just seen the Silva goal. Who said VAR gets the offside decisions right? If that’s given as a goal last season I have no problem. A simple but understandable refereeing error. But this season it’s a VAR error so what’s the point?

If VAR is causing more controversy than it is soving then by definition it is not working. It’s just so frustrating! Sack the fucking thing…I’m with you Pagan.

999…re your post at 6.25pm.. so what is the point of VAR? There’s human error with and without VAR, so stop interrupting the flow and spontaneity of the game with this VAR shit

The referees got a lot more right than wrong also, 999. Just let them make decisions like they always did. They’ll get some wrong, but hey…so is VAR, at least with the way it is affecting the games and the methods of reffing them ie not making decisions because of VAR. I haven’t seen today’s controversies yet, but it’s happening every sodding week

Steveo – your fellow Arsenal fan is right when he says that it was only when teams got black players of their own that their behaviour improved. I remember well the dark days of standing on the Kop in the 70’s and early 80’s and listening to 18000 singing racist songs. Funnily enough, they stopped when we bought John Barnes…I wonder why! Since then, UK society and even more so, our football teams have become far more multicultural and multiethnic, and this sort of thing just would not be tolerated nowadays. There will always be the odd racist numbskull, who usually hides behind a keyboard, but by and large, I think the problem in England is tiny compared to parts of the Continent, and let’s not forget it’s not just Eastern Europe, Spain and Italy have had major problems recently.
How to solve it is the million dollar question…I’m afraid the decent fans and players will have to suffer through bans from competitions etc. It happened to Liverpool fans, and indeed all English club fans, through our European ban after the actions of a few thugs. Decent people suffered because of the ban, but it worked, on the whole. Never having been to Bulgaria, I’m not sure, but I don’t imagine there is much, if any, of a black population, so it really is ignorance…as it was in England decades ago. Hit them with a severe punishment, and things may improve, but it is a societal problem as much as it is a Bulgarian football problem

Why come up with a comment like that, Moos?

While Laporte is obviously a big miss for City, are people conveniently forgetting that Liverpool lost arguably their most important player, or at least one of them in the first game of the season as well?
It’s a big loss to lose Laporte for 5 months absolutely, but people havery conveniently forgotten about us losing Alliaon. Just saying.

Pagan 3.44pm – top post! I love a bit of a disagreement on here, bit of controversy etc. Exactly what there should be, ffs. We all support different teams and therefore happen to have different opinions and allegiances. I, for example, happen to think Klopp is the Messiah and pep is just a very naughty boy!

24th September 2019 at 4:25 pm in reply to: Isn't it time that we stopped supporting terrible companies? #48312Interesting topic, Mak. I do not know alot about New Balance, other than the fact that they have done good shirts, by and large, for Liverpool. Do we know that NB pay a fair rate? Genuine question that I don’t know the answer to. Certainly Nike appear to be the Real Madrid/Man Utd of the sportswear world, and for that reason only, I would be against the move. But I’m resigned to it happening…it just will…because they will offer the best deal financially for the club. It’s why Salford City, now they are a league club have dispensed with the local family owned brewery that supported them through thin and thin, and virtually kept them afloat when their clubhouse burnt down 10 years ago, and have now got a nice fat rich deal with Carlsberg. Quality of product, opinions of customers (in this case fans), supporting local businesses are just irrelevancies – money talks, and I’m sure Nike will be throwing vast wads at FSG to ensure that they get the deal.
