How long ago was that, Parky? Do you remember Millwall in the old first division?

threeps – as Steveo says, a mundane reason to support your club is just as good. My story is just as mundane!

Where does it say he’s posted on the thread? I was hoping he would post on this thread, but I can’t see any post of his here.

Chucky – weren’t Southampton 4-0 up at half time in your first match?

To be fair, he has contributed to the ‘Why do you support your club’ thread!
I think the Dutch players stance is interesting and innovative, but I fear that it will make little difference other than give publicity to the morons and numbskulls who instigate the racism. That’s not to say, it’s not worth a go – anything is to stop this scourge.
I don’t know about Holland, a country I’d always assumed didn”t really have a football racism problem, but no-one will convince me that the problem in this country is miniscule compared to the 70’s and 80’s. I remember standing on the Kop in the late 70’s and listening to 18000 people chanting at the WBA players to ‘get back on your jam jar’. It was horrific and just so widespread. It only changed at Anfield really when we bought John Barnes, so I’d guess it’s just education that’s needed.
Having said that, the country and indeed the world is getting more and more nationalistic and divisive, so maybe that is why the problem is once again rearing it”s head

Interesting stories,guys.. It’s funny, isn’t it, how random, sliding doors moments can affect the whole rest of your life, or at least your football life. So Pagan could have been a Notts County fan; Steveo could have been a Hammer; if Spurs hadn’t made that comeback, Chucky could have supported Southampton; Mikus and Nil could have been Man Utd (just trying to imagine Nil as Manu!!), and Mak could have been Celtic or even Everton. Only 9, Sean and myself, so far, had no choice to make.
Well, that has passed a few more hours before the Prem starts again. Thanks for your responses…it made interesting reading. If anyone else wants to add their bio, please do.

Mikus, was your Dad a Liverpool fan then? If you’re ever up for a trip to Anfield, I do occasionally get spare tickets available at face value if you’re interested.. Why did I think you lived in Germany?

So you were living in London at the time?

So a teacher for Pagan and, like me, the Dad for 999. Easy for 9 and me then with a Dad to take you to games as a kid, and that cements the passion for life. More difficult I would imagine for those who live away from their supported club

The guy’s toxic. Going from one of the most universally liked and respected managers in Poch to THE most disliked manager in Jose is quite a leap. He may actually do okay for Spurs, for a short time at least, but seeing his bitterness and bad sportsmanship back on my TV is not something I want to see. It’ll be all about him when things are going well, but he’ll be quick to dump on the players and Levy when things go wrong.

So the days of Spurs being known as an attractive, attacking footballing side will be well and truly laid to rest!

I had that problem about a new topic the other day, but then it suddenly worked. Being a technophobe, I thought I’d done something wrong but maybe not!

Adlab…by all accounts, including Southgate’s, Gomez was the innocent party here. As for keeping it in house, the chances of things like this being kept in house nowadays with social media etc are minimal. I reckon Southgate was just trying to take control of the situation, in case it came out at a later date. As I said in an earlier post though, I do think it’s a little harsh.
And an interesting point, if we’d needed to win to qualify, I bet Sterling would have played!

Brian – I thoroughly enjoyed the game, but I guess my view is somewhat skewed by the result, but trying to be objective, I thought it was a high class match played at a frightening pace. But despite the pace, there was some fantastic movement, skill and tenacity from both sides. The difference between the 2 sides for me was City’s defence and Liverpool’s finishing. It’s probably fair to say our players turned up more than City’s did. With the honourable exception of Sterling, I thought your other big players were quiet. KDB, Aguero, Rodri and bernardo were unable to effect anything too concerning for a Liverpool fan.
So, yes, I enjoyed the game, the atmosphere was good and a couple of great goals.
