Steveo – yeah, VVD stayed on, and seemed to play with little or no discomfort. Fabinho will be the big miss as we don’t really have an adequate like for like replacement.
As for the ‘usual suspect’, just ignore his tirades. He obviously has issues, and every now and then ‘Forum Tourettes’ takes over. He’s a decent lad at heart, I suspect.

I disagree, Sean. I thought Gomez was poor defensively as well as going forward. My seat last night was in the Lower Kenny stand and so Joe was right in front of us during the first half, and the amount of times he lost his shape was worrying. Like everyone, I was amazed how brilliant he was last season before his injury, but he just has not taken his opportunities since then.
I’d not heard the rumours, threeps, but maybe it does explain his performances. Worrying for him and the club.

Ha!
The crowd were very poor tonight, especially for a European night that mattered. Are we taking the team for granted?

Only cos the ref gave us nothing!!
Fair result though, and Napoli thoroughly deserved a draw. Defended very well, and we just never got going – worried about Fabinho as well. If he’s out for a while, we’ll miss him alot

Personally I wasn’t arguing for Mane. I’m firmly in the VVD camp. But comparing Mane’s stats with Messi’s is misleading. You just don’t have the ‘gimme’ games in the Premiership that you get in La Liga. If Messi had been playing in the Prem last season, I’ll bet his stats wouldn’t have been much better than Mane’s, certainly nowhere near his La Liga stats.

Yeah, I wouldn’t argue with that. Mind you, someone doing just a ‘good’ job would be a move in the right direction for certain clubs in the Premiership!!

Fantastic though Messi is, last season wasn’t his best. It was VVD’s best resulting in a win of the Champions League that in the summer of 2018 appeared very unlikely. I don’t know what Liverpool’s odds were in August of 2018 to win the CL, but they would have been considerably higher than Barca’s to win La Liga.
As usual the award is a stitch up/love-in as it has been for years between Ronaldo and Messi. Don’t get me wrong, they are both obviously two of the GOATs, but there has been the odd year when I’ve felt other players could and should have had a look in

But Eriksen, Alderweireld and yes, Kane as well, are well known to be paid a fraction of what they could get at a number of clubs, but until recently they haven’t moaned about it and angled for a move. Why?

Well if that’s true, I’m surprised. As Klopp said when asked about it, if the award is for the best player over the last 10 years, then it goes to Messi, but if it’s an award for last season, it should be Virgil.

But Ed, doesn’t Poch earn a bit of credit for NOT losing any top players in his tenure. It would appear that they wanted and liked to play for him, until latterly anyway. And he had very little money to spend.
Mav – at least the Munich job would likely get the ‘no trophies’ monkey off his back.

I definitely want us to win it. I remember watching the Flamengo-Liverpool World Club Championship in 1981 when we lost 3-0. It was played in Tokyp I think, and we just never really turned up. I hope we take it more seriously this time. We’ve lost to Independiente, Flamengo and Sao Paolo, and didn’t play in it in 1977 and 1978.
At least the Brazilians in our team should be up for this one!

Six 2-1 wins in the Premiership from us so far, Southapmton, Chelsea, Leicester, Spurs, Villa and Palace. No-one can say we’re blowing teams away. Far be it from me to complain as in previous seasons a number of them would have finished as draws, but it would be nice to have a couple of nice easy wins where we’re not chewing our nails at the end!

Some amazing goals on there, Chucky. Roberto Carlos against Valencia from out near the corner flag was unbelievable. Good to some Ronaldinho goals again – used to love watching him! Proper showman

Hell of a bargain, even at £35m. We’d get 5 or 6 times that now if we sold him, but in terms of transfer bargains there is only one winner for me…Andy Robertson £8m. We’d get 10 times plus that if we sold him now!

Chelsea man, interesting predictions, and I very much hope you win your money! There are a couple I’d take issue with, however. I really don’t think sheffield United will make the Europa League places, though it’d be great if they did. I think they’ll hit the buffers soon, but what a season so far! Also can’t see United winning the Europa. They really are a poor side and when the teams drop out of the Champions League, they will be found out big time! Mason Mount for YP of the year? Good shout and a possibility, but if Liverpool do win the league, my guess is that Trent would get it. Agree with your relegation choices, but not your Manager of the year. Again, if Liverpool win the league, it’ll be Klopp, though Rodgers has done an amazing job.
And Leeds and WBA to be promoted!

And to think, we Liverpool fans were disappointed when Jones joined United! Reportedly, we were in for him at the time, but Fergie swung it and he signed for United. Dodged a bullet there!!

For me, Mav, it’s between Virgil and Sadio, simply because they have played better than they have ever before over the last year. You can’t say the same about Mo.
