Brian…Albert Stubbins was English, not American, I’m fairly sure. He really became famous playing for Liverpool rather than Newcastle though he did play a few games for them before the War.
He was also famous for being depicted on the cover of the Beatles Sgt Pepper album!!_____________________________

23rd May 2022 at 4:10 pm in reply to: β½οΈπΉπ°Final Day Football Gameweek 38β½οΈπ #196297‘We paid approximately Β£55000 for Haarland and will probably sell Jesus for about Β£40m,’
Blimey, Adlab, Β£55000 for Haaland…now that is a bargain. Joking aside though, while Β£55m is a bargain of a transfer fee for Haaland, Β£500k a week wages bumps up the cost considerably. Cracking player though, and should make you even stronger.
So congratulations to City and their fans on here, especially gjblues, who I’ve not heard from for a while. How are you, Gary? Proud of my team, and nearly proud of Gerrard’s team yesterday, but over the season there was a cigarette paper between the two teams, and if we can win on Saturday, I’ll happily take our season. Not got a good feeling about it though, as a potential midfield of Hendo, Keita and Milner does not look strong enough to me.

Yeah, I’m going. Going down later today and staying with a mate in Stevenage so a nice stress free day tomorrow, at least until 3.30pm! Train from Stevenage to Kings Cross and hit the pubs there and toddle off to Wembley about 2pm. Really looking forward to it, and as usual between these teams, it could go either way. Almost any result is possible.
Hope your Mother in law gets better okay, and we must have a catch up sometime soon!

10th April 2022 at 11:10 am in reply to: β½οΈWeekend Football GW 32 – Man City V Liverpoolβ½οΈ #195385Do you know what, Adlab? The result really could be anything today. You could thrash us 5-0, we could do the same to you, or anything in between. If I had to make a prediction I’d agree with your 1-1, which will obviously suit you guys. I was going to say let’s hope it’s a cracker, but in all honesty I would be just as happy if it’s a turgid 0-0 till the 94th minute and then we get a dodgy penalty and win 1-0!!
Anyway, kind of good luck to all who have an allegiance today!

I still think you are making assumptions on his thinking. Perhaps he should have been diplomatic but if he’s asked if Abramovich should be sanctioned, he’s entitled to state his true feeling.
The Government haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory in their handling of all this, but that can come as no surprise to anyone who has anything more than a fleeting interest in British politics. But they are not blocking any sale, are they? While it might complicate a sale, what they’ve done surely wont stop a sale. Maybe I’m wrong as I havent read everything there is on the matter.
And what is your opinion on the chanting of Abramovich’s name during the game last night?

Young blue – Klopp has a history of speaking out on social and political issues, and is well known for his liberal views on housing, poverty and crime. But you’re 100% sure he’s just glad to get rid of Chelsea as a rival? Right! To some people what is happening on the other side of Europe is somewhat more important.

999…I guess I’m just a little shocked that people are putting their club ahead of the dreadful actions of Putin and the atrocities being suffered by the Ukrainian people. I just think it’s a sad indictment on people’s priorities. And I’m genuinely feeling really sorry for the true Chelsea fans and I know every team has it’s less desirable element of fans. But I still believe they should have got virulently behind the team and the club and not Abramovich. Almost create a siege mentality if that’s not a highly inappropriate metaphor to use (which it is!).
Anyway I dont want to fall out with anyone on here cos it must be very concerning for you all. But Chelsea as a club will survive, but maybe not as the force you’ve been for the last 20 years.

Young blue- could it not be that Klopp agrees with sanctions against an individual who it appears is close to the war criminal, Putin?

A newspaper report on last nights game I’ve just read says ‘The London club’s fans showed their support for the owner, Roman Abramovich, bt chanting his name throughout the match’
It’s a difficult one for the fans I suppose. But I would have thought extra loud and fervent support for the club rather than RA would be both more productive, and not leave an unpleasant taste in many people’s mouths. I know the Chelsea fans on here are very reasonable and fair minded and I have sympathy for the their position but I would like to know where you guys stand on it all.

Ed – someone mentioned that to me this morning. Someone ‘in the know’ as they say! Mind you, I chucked a couple of quid on it at 16/1. Was 33/1 earlier this morning!!

You can enjoy a game of football or a good meal or a nice glass of wine and still be desperately worried about what is going on in Ukraine
