Adlab…it may ‘seem’ like a glorified training game but it’s not. It only seems like it as a viewing experience.

As I write City go 2 up. David Luiz really is a liability, isn’t he? What a dick!

It’s definitely better watching it with the crowd noise. Really is a strange experience. Totally different watching experience.

          City beginning to look good!

Yeah, I agree, Mak. A season ending with 105+ points would be truly remarkable. However with 5 subs available for use for the rest of the season, I think we will see some interesting mid game changes and maybe even some interesting starting line-ups. I t wpould be interesting seeing the likes of Jones and Elliot getting some matchtime with senior players, and not just the other kids.

Sean…yeah, Netflix has subtitles. I’m so bloody deaf, I need them. It’s always very funny using the subtitle option sometimes on live TV eg the footy or the news. The subtitles bear very little resemblance to what is being said. Worth doing if you need a laugh occasionally!

Cheers, Sean…yeah, I’m doing well, thanks. We obviously all hope that everyone stays safe, but I have to admit, I’m looking forward to the resumption of the season, integrity intact, or not, Pax. I don’t really get why the league has lost it’s integrity anyway. The rules and conditions are the same for each team, so for me there is no issue. The season needs to be finished, and unfortunately this is the only way it can be. If next season starts with no fans, is the ‘integrity’ of next season ruined as well?

I’m with you, threeps – I’d like to see some minutes for the kids, particularly Jones, though he has a bit of competition from the likes of Ox, Millie, Lallana and of course, the irrepressible Keith!!

Another little poser for Jurgen over the next few weeks is whether he uses the opportunity to blood any of the youngsters, like Jones, Elliot and Williams. Assuming we get over the line without too many problems, will he consider himself having a free hand to try a few things, or will he want to try to break points records etc? I kind of hope he treats every game like a cup final, and we try to finish on as many points as possible. It would be nice to break the points record, but then again, an opportunity like this to test some of the kids won’t come around again.

                  What are your thoughts?

It does seem weird talking about transfers before this season has finished, and it is really only Chelsea’s early move for werner that has brought it about. I am just concerned that Liverpool don’t miss their chance to consolidate whilst in a position of ultimate strength.

Threeps – as for Dembele, I have to confess I know very little about him other than Barca spent a huge amount on him 2 or 3 years ago, but he hasn’t pulled up any trees since. Was it Dortmund they got him from? What was he like in Germany before his move? All I remember about him is that he had a couple of very good opportunities to really kill us off at the end of our defeat to Barca in the first leg of the semi final last year…and he missed them. 4 or 5-0 out there, and Divvy would really have had to perform at Anfield!!

Don’t really see any possibility of us landing either Mbappe or Sancho, as for both those you’ll have an astronomical transfer fee as well as huge wages. Think Werner only went for £50m, a comparative bargain compared to the other two.

Like Mak, I’ve not seen enough of Werner so I’m bowing to threeps better knowledge of his attributes, but from what I’ve read he would be a good fit at Anfield.Who knows though, maybe we are after someone and they are just going about it in the usual incredibly professional manner

Mak – ‘Who knows though, maybe we are after someone and they are just going about it in the usual incredibly professional manner’ What, like our persual of VVD???

Must admit, I’m very disappointed about Werner, and although FSG have done great things for the club they really don’t splash the cash, do they? VVD and Allison were bought with Couts money, they spent nothing last summer, and now it could be that they’re keeping their hands in their pockets this year. I have read though that it was Werner’s wage demands that FSG didn’t like. £200k a week which would have put him at Salah’s level which wouldn’t be right. But even so, we can’t be short of a few quid, after our successes in the last couple of years and the new Nike deal. The loss of matchday revenue wouldn’t hit us as bad as some others either. I just hope that we don’t miss this chance of consolidating while we are at the top. We are in a position of strength being European champions, World Champions and English champions with a world class manager. The front 3 are 28, and 2 of them will be off to Afcon in January, so I really do believe we need some reinforcements this summer. Elliot and Jones, good though they may be, won’t win us anything next season or the season after. Grujic and Wilson are possibly similar levels to Shaqiri and Lallana who are likely to leave, and they may come back to add numbers to the squad, but it’s up front where I’m concerned.

                            Thoughts?

Yeah, like you lads, I’m excited about it restarting, which seems to be a minority opinion on here, but I think the lift it will give to people (football fans anyway!) outweighs any minimal risk it involves. It will be very strange, though, watching games taking place at Anfield and me not being there. Not having BT Sport, I haven’t seen any of the Bundesliga, and I’m finding difficult to envisage football behind closed doors. I’m sure it won’t be nearly as good, but it’s still better than nothing.

Disappointed if it’s true that we have missed out on Werner…perhaps we’ll have Sancho instead!!

999 – I would be very surprised and disappointed if ’10’s of thousands’ of Liverpool fans streamed on to the streets after we’ve wrapped up the title. Certainly there will be some idiots but maybe I’m being naive, I doubt there will be as many as you are intimating. There will be no pubs open, no bus tour etc, so very little to see or do.

For the life of me I can’t understand why people are so keen to cancel this season ‘so that it doesn’t affect next season’. By doing that it makes every single game that we’ve watched since last August a complete waste of time. Surely the priority should be to complete this season, and then work out the complexities of next season based on where we are. If you’re painting a room and you run out of paint, you don’t say ‘sod that’, we’ll forget that room and start another one.

While it would be funny for non-Liverpool fans I’m sure if the league was null and voided, doesn’t it just make the whole thing a farce to start a new competition before the previous one has finished? What’s the rush to start a new season? If the logistics of next season have to be changed, then so be it. They almost certainly will anyway. At least it will be the same for every team, and all will know the situation before it starts. I completely agree that football shouldn’t start until there is the all clear, but when that all clear is given then we complete the current season first

Premier League footballers should “take a pay cut and play their part” during the coronavirus pandemic, says health secretary Matt Hancock.

Quote from Hancock on April 2nd

No Pax, I don’t know if Rees-Mogg and other politicians have made donations, but that is my point. Nobody appears to be asking them, so why ask about footballers?

I only used Salah as an example. I’m sure Silva, Aguero and Rodri are equally generous. And there are plenty of examples of players supporting their local charities as well eg Trent, Hendo and Kompany among others.

I think we are probably all arguing the same side! Players should be helping out,at least the Prem players should, but I think we must acknowledge that very many are, and I’m simply asking that footballers are judged by the same standards as the rest of the ‘super rich’ (be that individuals or corporations), and I don’t believe they are. The day I see Hancock questioning Rees-Mogg and his cronies philanthropic deeds, is when I’ll question footballers. Still feel they are just an easy and soft target for inept politicians who want to deflect attention away from their own inadequacies. Anyway I’ve said my piece on this now…I’ll leave it there. Sorry if I’ve pissed anyone off on this but I feel strongly that as one of the richest countries in Europe and with geographical advantages and Coronavirus timeline advantages, it is a disgrace that we are on course to be the worst hit country in Europe. And yet we’re spending our time criticising a few footballers who we THINK may not be pulling their weight.

Which is why a lot of the multi millionaire footballers do exactly that, Adlab. My whole argument in this discussion is not whether they should, of course they should, but that the footballers should be judged and questioned no differently from other multi millionaires like Rees-Mogg, like Murdoch, like Branson, like Adele etc etc etc. Why are they judged differently? Salah, for example, has donated ‘thousands of tons’ of food and fresh meat to residents of his home town in Egypt affected by Covid-19. That’s in addition to the hospital, sewage treatment works and a £2.5m donation to Egypt’s Cancer Institute. Has Rees-Mogg been as generous? I doubt it somehow, but no-one is calling him out.

And Salah is not unique in this – far from it. Many players do similar.
