No, there probably isn’t, Adlab, but you know as well as I do that the Football Writers Award doesn’t necessarily go to the best footballer. It covers a huge wide range of attributes, including influence on the rest of the team, leadership skills, how much they have improved, whether they have contributed to the team actually winning anything, as well of course whether they have had an outstanding season, which by any measure, Henderson has.
KDB is a wonderful footballer and would walk in to any team in the world, bar none, but in the first 4 attributes I have listed above, has he outperformed Henderson? I would say no.

Just coming back down to earth 36 hours later. My kids aged 28 and 26 were round to watch it with me on Wed night, along with my daughters boyfriend who’s a United season ticket holder!! First time the kids had seen us lift that particular trophy, and my fears of an anti climatic result was unfounded. Great game with some great goals, and a good effort at a presentation. Still feel somewhat cheated in not being there to watch it live, but that is no ones fault, and we’ll just have to do it again next year!!
Another summer where I am confident we will lose no one we don’t want to lose, but still feel we should be strengthening in some areas, but we will certainly be there or thereabouts again next year.

Lads…I work for a brewery in Manchester, and my job is looking after pubs as an Account Manager. Don’t believe all you read in the Press. Thee pubs are very quiet generally. We have 130 pubs of our own around the North West, as well as dealing with a number of free of tie outlets such as social clubs, freehouses and sports clubs, and believe me when I tell you that things are worryingly quiet, particularly with food pubs (over 50% down in first 10 days following opening). The wet led pubs are not suffering as badly, but are still well down. All our own pubs, and indeed the majority of outlets, have been very responsible as well as innovative since the re-opening, but customer confidence is not back yet. And indeed with the pictures and sensationalist reporting of isolated cases of overcrowding, I’m not surprised. But it is a worry. The hospitality industry employs hundreds of thousands of people in the UK, and we need it to recover.
So I urge you to support your local pub. Give it a go…mayb not a city centre pub, but your local with an outside area perhaps. I hope you will be pleasantly surprised.

I don’t know who is not as disappointed as you, Mak. I think we have really missed an opportunity since th restart – to stamp our authority and superiority on this league, and to start next season with teams still thinking we are virtually unbeatable. We all accept that on their day City can beat anyone, including us, and therefore we are not 20+ points better than them, but the drop off has been alarming, especially with the word coming out that we are not going to be buying anyone.
I am concerned, though I console myself with my memory of Liverpool winning the league in 1984, I think, with 5 games to go. Our last 5 games we lost 4 and drew one, though we did have the excuse of a European Cup Final to prepare for. I do think this time though that we are in danger of blowing a big opportunity.
Sadly Divvy, Ox, Minamino are just not good enough, and Curtis, Neco are not there yet, and I am worried about Bobby. Feel I should just be celebrating our triumph, but instead I’m just angry and frustrated

Think there’s still a few players who haven’t come back from the restart yet. Ox Gomez Robbie Trent and Gini need to up their game in the remaining few games.

I think fab has been one of our better players since the restart. I’m surprised few of you like him. I think he is an integral part of the way we play, and the Fab we saw last season and the first half of this one would walk in to all teams in the Prem. He came back from injury and was very poor, granted, but against Palace he got MoM, and even against City, he was probably our best player…not that that is saying much admittedly. As I said in a post the other day, I wouldn’t swap him for any other defensive midfielder around.

Thought that was an embarrassment last night, and the Liverpool players should be ashamed of themselves. Yes, City played well, especially KDB, Foden and Sterling, but the lack of fight, pride and professionalism shown by my team was worrying. Trent, Robbo and Gomez were nothing short of dreadful. Gini might as well have not been on the pitch, same with Bobby, and Manewas totally out of sorts also. There was an opportunity to show City that we are 20+ points better than them (not that we are!), and they blew it. Doesn’t matter in the great scheme of things, but have to say, I’m very disappointed in them and Jurgen after last night.

Very nice, Ed! Mr Panenka would be very proud!
On a side issue, I really think we missed a trick on this site not inviting Nil back, if only for the moment Liverpool won the league! Would have been good to see!

Yah, all in all, it’s a great problem to have. Even Lovren, you know, is a pretty good option for a FOURTH choice centre back. Yes, he’s got a mistake in him, but name me a 4th choice centre back who hasn’t!
Mak, I thought you’d probably have KDB in place of Hendo, and I won’t resurrect that argument again. I think we’re comfortable with our own opinions! The thing about the front 3 is if one of them got an ACL injury or something that kept them out for months on end rather than weeks. Divvy, much as I love him (an icon as you say) is a Sheffield United standard player. Top half of Prem probably but you wouldn’t want him starting 25 games a season.
Anyway, Mak, it was only 8 days ago you were saying you were giving up on the season after the performance at Goodison. Something changed? Ha, ha!! Great feeling, eh?

Agreed – I think we need a 3rd/4th choice centre back, left back cover and cover up top, and a reserve keeper if Adrian goes. But as you say, whoever comes in knows that they are very unlikely to be a starter which gives us problems.

Sean…’I am never one to go overboard and I am always cautious’ Surely not, Sean. I have always known and loved you for your undying optimism and never say die attitude!!!
You know what, boys, I really don’t think I would have one other player from the Premiership, other than De Bruyne, in our starting 11. It’s a big statement that, which is why I’ve written this on our page cos I can’t be arsed to have the discussion/argument, but who would get in? Obviously wouldn’t swap Allison for any other keeper, either of the fullbacks, of course not. VVD? No. Gomez is probably not yet the 2nd best centre back in the Prem, but he has a good shot at becoming it very soon…and he’s English…and he’s young, so wouldn’t swap him, and who for anyway? Only Laporte is anywhere near him. Fabinho, along with Kante, are streets ahead of other defensive midfielders, so no swap. Hendo is for me the best captain in the Prem, and has had a sensational season. The front 3 are quite simply irreplaceable by anyone, so that just leaves KDB as a replacement for Gini, and I have to say that is hard on Gini. Impossible to knock off the ball, scorer of the most important goals (maybe could do with him chipping in with a few more), and he is Jurgen’s ‘go-to’ man.
But that just shows how strong our starting line up is. Even back in the day when we were so strong we had players who you knew were not really top class…I’m thinking of Joey Jones, Gary Ablett, Sammy Lee, Jimmy Case, David Johnson and Craig Johnston. All good players but a way short of being world class. There really isn’t a weakness in our current team, and it is just so exciting to see, and I just hope we are allowed back soon to witness them in the flesh again

Thanks for all the kind words from you guys, especially Gary – rivals but friends. Look forward to a pint or 5 with you when the pubs open, mate.
Really feel quite emotional. There’s been times I thought I’d never see another tit’ll, and my kids of 28 and 26, it’s their first. I’d witnessed 10 or 11 by their age but it was over half my lifetime ago. I’m just so happy. Sorry for being maybe OTT for some. I will come back down to earth but not for a while.

True, Steveo – maybe I would think differently if I were an Arsenal fan at the moment – you’re a bit likee we were under Hodgson – had one or two world class players, and just so much dross!

Now you see, that I can’t understand! How can you turn a game involving your tam off? How many times in recent years have we scored a last minute goal against Everton? Admittedly, it didn’t look like happening yesterday, and then saying you won’t watch for the rest of the season? Really? On our greatest ever season? Wow!

I thought City were excellent last night though Arsenal certainly made it easier for them. City would be an even better ream if Pep played Sane instead of Sterling who again I thought was pretty average last night.
As for the viewing experience, it was very strange. Think you have to watch it with the crowd effects otherwise it is just too anaemic. It’s not the same, but it’s a sight better than no football at all.
