Remember when we played Bayern last season at Anfield when it finished 0-0 Gnabry was a real threat all night, and he’s got better since then.
Big chance for Neymar thete

Any side with Neymar and Herrara in are likely to have the neutrals supporting their opponents!

Where did Kinkladze go after City? I don’t remember him being a big player elsewhere. He was magical for City. I love players like him who play with a smile on their face. Okocha was another, and of course Ronaldinho as the king of them all

Don’t blame yourself, Ed! Lukaku is another of those players to completely fall out with Mourinho, and not wish or be unable to perform for him. I remember in the World Cup in Russia being hugely impressed with Lukaku. He was fit, he was fast, he could finish, and he bullied defenders, just like Drogba had done a decade before. But at United he looked the exact opposite of all those qualities, and the blame for that can only rest with Jose and the coaching staff.

Commiserations, Gary. Genuine question about Sterling…looking simply at goals scored, he has had a phenomenal couple of seasons, but just how good do you really think he is? His finishing has always been hit or miss (excuse the pun!), and he just hasn’t got a left foot, and yet Pep always seems to pick him. I guess you can’t argue with his goals tally, and so many have come in exactly the same scenario as last night’s miss i.e. coming in at the back post and tapping in. But I have always thought Sane was the better player.
Would be interested in City fan’s thoughts.
Couldn’t believe the team selection either last night…no Mahrez, Foden or either of the Silvas. Surely David Silva would have made the difference last night?
I’m aware this might seem that I’m a gloating Liverpool fan, but I’m honestly trying not to be, but Kyle Walker? Really? And I’m not sure just how great Rodri and Gundogan are. They are good players, of course they are, but are they of the highest quality? Of the starting 11 last night, only KDB and Laporte would get in to my team, and as someone above mentioned the defence hasn’t really improved since Laporte came back in to the team, so maybe the jury is out on him as well to an extent. Fernandinho, Aguero and David Silva are so important to the team, but all are the wrong side of 30, and are either leaving or have injury issues, as is Garcia who everyone tells me is going to be great, but he’s going at some point as well. I love the look of Foden, but from an outsiders POV it seems you’re going to be very reliant on him, obviously KDB, and keeping Aguero fit next season.
Sorry if this seems I’m rubbing it in, and it is probably the wrong time to post this, and for that I apologise, but how worried are you boys?

442 – maybe I have misinterpreted your post but are you saying VVD just wins ariel balls and passes the ball 5 yards either side? His range of passing, his speed, his anticipation and awareness. ..oh and he scores a few as well!
It may well be that you were just looking for somebody to win are ball and do the simple passes, but VVD is not the best example surely. Maguire?

Dare I say it, but the thread was obviously one that was going to be nonsensical. I think your big mistake, Steveo, was responding to it in the first place, albeit in a light hearted way. Just ignore the d***head posts, as you’re just adding fuel to the fire.
He won’t apologise, he is selfish, completely unselfaware and has this pathetic victim complex, but try and just ignore those posts.
Steveo, I’m chuffed for you that it looks likely you’ll be back in work soon, and I hope things continue to look up.

What a shame! I like Mak and most of his posts, and he’s a valuable contributor to this forum most of the time. I’ve enjoyed the debates we’ve had and the difference in opinions. But every now and then he does let himself down by using terms that just aren’t acceptable. The response to someone’s opinion about Jurgen was wholly out of proportion to what was said, and just took the thread to a new and unwanted level.
Hopefully he will recognise this, and maybe he was just having a bad time personally. He has alluded in the past to one or two issues, so I’m just hoping he’s okay.

Apparently, Mikus, it’s not turquoise, it’s f*****g teal!!!
Nil, it was more a comment on the two particular players you mentioned more than anything else. Ruddock was, and is, little more than a disgrace for a professional sportsman, and Clough, while he did have a few good moments, he was no replacement for Beardsley. And to answer your question, I’m afraid I haven’t really studied the black away top so I can’t comment. I just liked the NB kits. They were stylish and uniquely Liverpool. These new ones are not

I’m with you, Mak. The new Nike kit is dreadful, and Nil, if it reminds you of the times we were buying Clough and Ruddock, that is all the more reason to dislike it. I’ve loved the recent NB kits, with the unique blood red colours. As somebody on This is Anfield said, this new kit makes us look like Swindon!!

I remember when my team were interested in tin pot trophies like the FA Cup! Only joking, lads, before someone jumps down my throat! Excellent game, ruined by a very harsh red.
Really liked the performance of Mount, esp first half, but think Arsenal worth their lead.

So what! Would question what Blackburn’s global fan base looks like! Why do you necessarily want to see all the ‘big, global’ clubs at the top table? As 999 says, Bournemouth held their own for 5 years, longer than the mighty WBA, Forest, Derby, Sheff wed etc have had as consecutive Premiership seasons.
Have you no romance in your body, man?!?!
Should the world just be full of McDonalds and KFC restaurants, should we all be drinking Coca Cola and Budweiser? What a dreadful, dystopian image that is!!

999…I think Villa finished with a goal difference one worse than Bournemouth anyway so would have been 2 worse and a point worse had that goal stood. Very tough on Bournemouth!
Thanks for enjoying my posts as well. I do try to see other people’s points of view as well but I know I sometimes get a little exasperated at the way people put their differing views across. There is no right or wrong, for example in the Hendo POTY debate. I have always said De Bruyne is the one player I would love to see in red and is almost certainly the most technically proficient player in the Premises, but I still believed Hendo deserved the award and listed my valid reasons.
And Sean, what can I say, mate? My work with you is done!!???

Not been on for a few days so only just seen this thread, so here are my contributions for what they are worth…
Manager of the Year – Hassenhutl – after the 9-0 home defeat to Leicester in Nov(?), everyone had Southampton to go down and Hassenhutl to lose his job. The club was a basket case. Instead he turned them round and they survived comfortably. Honorable mentions to Wilder, Klopp and Dyche
Goal of the season – got to agree with Chucky – loved Son’s goal, but it was run close by Jimenez’x fantastic volley against Burnley the other day. Superb technique
Inevitability of the Year – VAR would end up causing more problems and arguments than it solved, as I predicted last summer. What is the f*****g point? Armpits, toenails are offside, but WWE wrestling is allowed to continue in penalty areas. It’s a farce – just dump it! Honourable mention to Adlab for his ‘world is against us’ posts!!
Disappointment of the Year – goal line technology which we all agree is a good thing fails on a crucial occasion and gets Bournemouth relegated. If that goal had been allowed Villa would have had one less point and an extra goal worse goal difference, saving Bournemouth.
Under achievers of the Year – our neighbours, Everton. They get in an A list manager in Ancelotti, and yet continue to deteriorate at an alarming rate. Knocked out of the FA Cup by a bunch of kids when they played their first team, a goalkeeper who appears to have believed the post World Cup hype about himself, summed up by their lack of fight and desire against Bournemouth yesterday. I’d be very worried if I were an Everton fan
Disgrace of the season – as ever dodgy owners leading to the demise of Bury, and the farce at Wigan. Two North western towns with clubs that have been quite possibly criminally mismanaged in to oblivion
Poster of the season – have to give this to Sean. It’s been a pleasure to witness the huge leap from eternal pessimism to joyous optimism. It’s much more fun being optimistic, eh, Sean? Honourable to my friend, gjblues, proving that club rivalries need not be an obstacle to friendship. But you still owe me a pint or two for our win, Gary!!
Disappointment of Year (part2) – after waiting 30 years to win the league, not being able to witness it first hand. It’s better than not winning the league, but even so, is this God’s idea of a joke?
Reformed character of the Year – to Nil. Mate, it’s good to see you back, and touch wood, no rants, no foul language – just good, sensible, even insightful posts. welcome back and keep it up!
Hero of the Year – the Ed for maintaining the website, and keeping us all in order. I wouldn’t even know how to do what you do, so never think you aren’t appreciated!!
Anyway, gone on long enough – it’s as long as one of mak’s posts this. Very enjoyable season for us Liverpool fans. Good luck to City, at least against Madrid in the Champions League, and to all those on here whose teams are still involved in the Europa League and the FA Cup Final!

Just to prove how awards are, as 999 says, ‘beauty contests’, how on earth did KDB not get MoM at City yesterday. OOh, yes I know, because they were recognising the contribution and ‘good guy-ness’ of the fantastic David Silva, and not one person would disagree with that. But in that match yesterday KDB was peerless!

Thank you Pax! Someone understands the award! It’s not for the best footballer in the country otherwise it would have gone to KDB or VVD or Mane etc!

I think with the exception of 999 you’ve all misunderstood my post. I’m not saying Hendo is the best player in the Prem. Far from it…there are probably 40 or 50 players in the league I’d rather watch than Hendo, but the game is not all about a 30 yard screamer or a beat 4 man dribble. This award is all about everything I said in my first post…leadership, trophies, improvement etc. I know KDB is a better footballer than Hendo, and so is Mane, VVD, Silva, and many others, but have they had as much influence on their team as Hendo? Personally I think not and I agree with the writers…sorry Brian…you might think they’re all idiots, but only cos they disagree with you?

So would I, Mav! It’s omly in the last 2 years or so that I’ve seen the massive improvement in Henderson. He really suffered initially in Gerrard’s shadow but under Klopp he has blossomed in to a true leader and is Klopp’s right hand man on the pitch. He’s not the glamorous star that VVD or Salah or even Trent is, but Klopp knows he will follow his instructions to the letter, and he is what makes this team click.

Sorry posted this in reply to Adlab on different thread!…
No, there probably isnβt, Adlab, but you know as well as I do that the Football Writers Award doesnβt necessarily go to the best footballer. It covers a huge wide range of attributes, including influence on the rest of the team, leadership skills, how much they have improved, whether they have contributed to the team actually winning anything, as well of course whether they have had an outstanding season, which by any measure, Henderson has.
KDB is a wonderful footballer and would walk in to any team in the world, bar none, but in the first 4 attributes I have listed above, has he outperformed Henderson? I would say no._____________________________
