999 and Brian – very best wishes to you both. Hope you’re both on the road to recovery! Like Mak, I wondered where 9 was after the game on Sunday, it was unlike him not to be on here offering his congrats, so I hope you’re on the mend, pal.
Ed, you’d be surprised how much I am on here, I just don’t always have the inclination or time to post, but I read most of what is posted and obviously enjoy the diversity of opinions!! As for the row between Pax and Young Blue, it was all something over nothing, and just a difference of opinions which is surely what the site is about anyway. From memory there was no abuse thrown around. Young Blue’s opinion was to say the least a minority one, but I have no problem him offering it, but with an opinion like that, you have to be prepared to accept a little ridicule and joshing. All harmless handbags as far as I am concerned.
I think 9 is the perfect moderator, surely a career in the diplomatic service was missed, but in the short term and only while he is away, if people think I would make a fair minded mod, then I’m happy to do it. Don’t really know what it involves, but hey, I’m sure you’ll be on your best behaviour for me!

To be fair, most fans on here, myself included get somewhat defensive when they see their club being attacked, though I take your point, threeps, that it was not meant as an attack!
I have to say, I wish we’d got Werner…and Pulisic, come to think of it. I think the likelihood is that one of Sadio or Mo will leave next summer, and that added to Bobby’s marginal decline over the last 12 months or so, is a little worrying. For me it was a no brainer to go for him, but for reasons we can only speculate about, the board and / or Klopp decided not to. Maybe we’re saving our pennies for an outrageous bid for Mbappe or Sancho next summer!

Yeah, good to see you back, Mak! Keep it real, mate, and don’t forget it’s only a footy forum!

Sorry to butt in on this thread, but if anyone wants to enter this seasons Fantasy League I have posted the link in the Fantasy League thread. If you have entered a team and played in it last season, you will automatically be entered again this year. Unfortunately, last year’s winner, Mr Mak, is no longer with us (in a forum sense, at least!) though his team will be in the league as he entered last year. Maybe it’s time to see if he wants to come back?
Anyway, enter a team if you like!

I guess so, but honestly, does FFP actually still exist? I get your point about Messi increasing City’s worldwide brand image and winning them more global supporters, but that is again all to do with improving revenues, and with the impotency of UEFA and FFP I would again suggest that that is of very secondary importance to the sheikhs.

Come in a bit late on this thread, but 2 points to add. One, the work rate of Gini added a huge amount to Liverpool over the last couple of seasons…will Thiago offer the same? Genuinely don’t know the answer as I don’t know enough about him.
And two, people saying that Messi signing for City would boost them off the pitch as well as on seems to me to be an irrelevance as they don’t need a boost off the pitch at all. With a nation state economy backing them, it’s only on the pitch that matters. As I said in a previous post somewhere, I really have my doubts that Messi will tear up the Prem like some suggest. I’ve loved watching Messi over the last decade, definitely my favourite global player, but he is undoubtedly past his very best, how hungry is he now to involve himself in a tough fight on a January night at Burnley, how big a change of system will it mean for KDB, Sterling et al, and how will they react to it suddenly being all about Messi at the Etihad? It’s all conjecture, I know, and although I’d love to see Messi play in this country,as a rival of City, I wouldn’t be too unhappy to see him go there_____________________________

I’m not sure that Messi going to City would actually be that good for City. Now I will say that I think Messi has been the greatest of all time, a truly wonderful player, but he is undoubtedly on the decline now, admittedly a decline from a supremely high level, but if he does go to the Etihad, regardless of any transfer fee or wages, I believe that City will suddenly become all about Messi, losing some of the team ethic that Pep has instilled in to them over the years. The pressure on Messi to perform to the brilliant level we all have seen at Barca will be immense.
And there will be no ‘gimme’ games in the EPL, at least very few compared to Spain, and he will have to work a lot harder in England than he has done in recent years in Spain…in a shit climate…where he doesn’t speak the lingo.
I was about to offer evidence of his demise as the 2nd leg at Anfield 16 months ago, where he got treated as a mere mortal by Robertson and Milner and was very poor…but then I remembered his brilliant free kick in the 1st leg!!
I really hope he does come to these shores, but I do feel it could be a rather sad sight of a faded champion.
Haunt me with this post when he’s got 20 goals by Christmas and City are 15 points clear!!

Mikus – totally agree with that. The Bayern away performance was one I was lucky enough to be at, and it was a game we just bossed with huge performances all over the pitch, and what a goal by Mane! Difficult to look past Barcelona at home, I suppose, but that Bayern game is right up there.

Sean, I think they’ve had decent final balls. Great chances for Neymar, Di Maria and Mbappe. Nothing wrong with those final balls

That was a good first half (almost as good as last year’s eh Chucky?).
Very even…great chances either end and with forwards like this on the pitch, you’d expect one or two to have been put away. Origi would have had 2 or 3 by now! ??
