3rd June 2023 at 9:12 pm in reply to: FA Cup 2023 – Manchester City V Manchester United – Saturday 3pm #207242
Didn’t go today but got my ticket and trip booked to Istanbul for CL Final – some sacrifices have to me made 😧.
On the match today, City certainly the better team, overall, without really getting out of second gear. United appeared to lack any strategy apart from kicking the ball long.
Penalty was correct under current law but law is a joke.
We could easily have had a penalty for the ‘foul’ on KdB – if ref had given it on field, VAR wouldn’t have overturned.
Not to grumble though – two down, one to go – COYB_____________________________

Also just seen on SSN that RMs XG was only 0.01 – is that a mistake on SSN part? Personally, I don’t pay much attention to XG but has anyone ever seen one that low?

Hi Andy, yes hopefully. I’m pretty much guaranteed a ticket as I have enough supporter points and I’m in the CL ticket scheme – just seen on SSN that both us and Inter get 20,000 each.
There’s also about six of us that enrolled in the UEFA ballot, where if you’re drawn out, get two tickets. not sure of the chances but hopefully there’ll be a few going on a ‘jolly boys outing’ to Istanbul._____________________________

Cheers for the congrats, LD. And btw, best just ignore Nil when he’s in clown mode – probably had a shandy or two (his semi-illiterate posts are a bit of a giveaway).

Wow, that stirred up a hornets nest. I only wanted to make an observation. I hardly ever complain about decisions – what goes around comes around imo. And I did say that I didn’t think the Spurs goal should have counted – ah well, that’s me told then!!!!

I’m not sure United can have too many arguments about the Spurs goal last night after the Fernandes goal in the ‘derby’. Btw, I do agree the Spurs goal shouldn’t have counted.

Nil, everything in football is cyclical and teams will dominate for periods of time – anything up to 20 years, as in United’s case under SAF. However, all periods of dominance come to an end. In City’s case, we are at a huge crossroad when Pep leaves (hopefully for us not for a few years yet). He is a genius of a manager, in my eyes the very best in the world at present; he’s an innovator (of tactics, that most others try to copy), great man-manager and unbelievable developer of talent – no one (who knows about football) would deny that – almost to a man, he makes them better players.
People go on and on about money and undeniably we used our financial muscle, certainly in the first 5/6 years of the Sheikh, to get ‘on the ladder’, so the speak. However, since Pep was appointed, we’ve bought players that would fit Peps plan – in the past two years, our net spend is around +£50m – purchases including, Grealish, Haaland, Akanji and Alvarez. And before anyone jumps in, I appreciate Haaland’s overall package is a lot more than the £51m we paid as a transfer fee.
What I’m saying Nil, is don’t take things so seriously, have faith in your own team. Klopp is a great manager and with a few good signings in the summer, I have no doubt you’ll be up there fighting for the title again next year. And as I pointed out, Pep isn’t going to be with us for ever._____________________________

Nil, I know exactly where you’re coming from – had the ‘misfortune’ of living in Manchester during the 90s and 00s when SAFs United were so dominant. You also forgot to mention your beloved Liverpool, who dominated the 70s and 80s – perhaps you were too young to remember or not born then? Liverpool were bankrolled by the Moores family.
Football, certainly in my life time, has always been about money – it’s big business. Even Forest, who won the title in 1978 and two ECs in the following two years, were the first club to spend £1m on a player._____________________________

Hi Nil, re your posts on City last night – just chill mate and try to appreciate good football when you see it. There’s no point whatsoever in working yourself up about us – can’t understand why anyone would watch a team play if it affected them that much.
This is the problem with football these days – far too tribal._____________________________

Well that was a bonus I wasn’t expecting; Arsenal again throw away a two goal lead, which is worrying in itself. Perhaps more worryingly for them: 1) they looked tired in the second half and 2) looked devoid of any idea how to win the game, once pegged back. Perhaps the pressure is now starting to tell.
Is there something in the North London water?_____________________________

Thomas Tuchel post match interview last night “that was not a 3-0 match…..”
Absolutely spot on Tommy, if it hadn’t been for 3/4 excellent saves by your ‘keeper, it would have been 5/6-0.
Wonderful performance and deserved result for City – not over yet though but 3-0 ‘half time’ lead is more than useful._____________________________

It would appear Antonio’s observations about the Spurs players were spot on…………………which we all suspected anyhow

Ed, if you read my post again, you’ll note that I said United were “lucky”, not Fulham unlucky. There is a subtle difference.
And I did state (and I quote) “Although it has to be said, Fulham (Mitrovic) didn’t help themselves”_____________________________

“Of course we drew Brighton and City get another Championship team”
In cup comps this season we’ve played Arsenal, Chelsea (twice), Liverpool. And in the CL IF we beat BM, we then play Chelsea/RM.
Can’t believe that was a serious comment Ed._____________________________

“….is it only when Utd get decisions you call it out as injustice?”

I know Rover, and we’re still surprised when it happens.
Antony kicking out at the Fulham player wasn’t even looked at by VAR.
Hope they kept the receipt for him, he’s garbage._____________________________

How lucky can a team actually get? Pretty much outplayed for 70 minutes
Although it has to be said, Fulham (Mitrovic) didn’t help themselves.
I’m not sure the Sancho shot was going in tbh._____________________________

It was mentioned on SSN, Manchester Evening News, not to mention many of the ManU YouTube channels.

Is that a ‘tongue in cheek’ question, Lucky?
If not, what have you been watching and reading this past week?_____________________________

Hopefully that’ll shut all the ‘know next to nothing’ pundits up on tv and in the press saying that United could do the quad. They have some good players and ETH has managed them well but, come on. Sky Sports News has been like MUTV2 this past week since they won the LC – a cup City have won 6 times in the last 9 seasons.
