On a side note, we had a bit of discussion over our pre-match pint today – some thought the PL trophy was always presented after the last game, regardless of whether it’s at home or away. Others thought it was presented at the team’s last home game (after they’d won it, obviously).
Does anyone know the definitive answer – there’s £10 riding on the answer 🙂_____________________________

Park the bus, park the bus, Antonio Conte,
Park the bus, park the bus, I say,
Park the bus, park the bus, Antonio Conte,
Playing football the Italian way.Well that was a bit of stroll in the park. I’d have thought a team chasing CL football would have showed a bit more adventure, even against City.
It’s not even as if a point makes a great difference for them.
Four wins to go or three if we beat United._____________________________

Majestic first half performance, topped by three world class goals – that really was a treat. Managed the game in the second, when Arsenal, as expected, came at us for the first 20 minutes, then we controlled things thereafter.
Sane unplayable first half.
Sergio will have to wait until Sunday to get his 200th.
Five more wins or four if we beat United.

Got back from Wembley earlier – stayed in Watford last night – and nursing a sore head – glad I wasn’t driving home.
Just watched the game again. I thought we were second gear at best in the first half but came out for the second a different team. Arsenal didn’t offer much at all but certainly couldn’t live with us for that first 20 mins after half time. Really pleased for Vinny and deserved MotM award.
First trophy in the bag, just need to push now and secure PL sooner rather than later, then concentrate on CL – not sure our defence is good enough to win it but I’m sure we’ll give it our best shot (unlike the semi final v. RM a couple of years ago).
Belated Happy Birthday to Adlab.
Jim, sorry didn’t reply to your post on Friday – not been on for a couple of days._____________________________

21st February 2018 at 10:40 pm in reply to: Champions League: "It's a Knockout" Stage (Goonies need not apply) #16232Two poor sides as CL ko standards go. If either of them come up against RM, Barca, PSG, City, Liverpool, Spurs or BM, they will get spanked, big time.
These two have won the Europa League the past three years. I think it’s time UEFA had a rethink about allowing the winners automatic entry to the CL.
Also, Mourinho really has his work cut out trying to get Pogba motivated – he really looks like he can’t be bothered.

Was at the match last night and the Delph tackle was too far away to make any judgement. Watched the game again tonight and fair enough, in the current climate it was probably a red.
Having said that, the thing that riles me is the total lack of consistency in refereeing decisions. The number of ‘tackles’ on our players this season that were given yellows and should (no could about it) have been reds is staggering.
Reffing standards in the PL has declined dramatically – it’s no wonder none of them are going to the World Cup.

Jim, Alfie’s a decent red.
You’ve just got to let ’em have their day in the sun (whenever City lose), coz they know as well as us that those days in the sun are extremely few and far between.
Only TWO meaningful defeats in all comps this season – they’re going to make the most of it – it’s like Christmas to kids for ’em – bless.

I think Pep will play a fairly strong team tomorrow. We’ve not played for six days and it’s another six before the cup final. Added to that, Jesus and Mendy apart, he has a full squad to choose from.
My team would be:
Bravo: Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Zinchenko: Silva (D), De Bruyne, Gundogan: Sterling, Aguero, Silva (B).
Try to get the tie sewn up by the hour and then make changes accordingly.

Well I think it’s fair to say we’ve had worse halves of football.
Having said that, they really should have had a penalty at 0-0 and our defence looked a little shaky in the first 15 minutes.
Since then we’ve run the show and might have had another couple.

Did anyone ever think they’d see the day we would be favourites to win the Champions League?
I’m black and blue, pinching myself.
My God we’re so lucky that the Sheikh chose us.

Even as a City fan and born a number of years after the tragedy, that song, ‘Flowers of Manchester’ brings a tear to my eye.
I listened to the radio documentary on R5 Live last night – a very poignant compilation of recollections from people in the aftermath.
RIP to all that lost their lives that fateful day._____________________________

Jim, currently English refs are just plain incompetent. It’s no coincidence none have been chosen to go to the World Cup.
As they are now full time professionals (???) they should also be as fit as the players. Mason was no where near able to keep up with Sane’s break yesterday and as a result, I feel, wasn’t in a good enough position to see the true force and maliciousness of the tackle – in the end he just guessed and took the easy option._____________________________

Personally, I don’t subscribe to any ‘hidden agenda’ talk.
The FA Cup draw is what it is – we’ve had, I think, 8 away ties in the last 9 draws; however, prior to that we had a good run of home draws – ‘swings and roundabouts’.
Regarding the bad ‘tackles’ our players have been subject to recently, and there have been about 5 that should have been ‘red’, a question, under current VAR rules, can a players yellow card be changed to a red following review and where there’s clear intent to foul (injure) as in Sane’s case yesterday? Or are bad tackles not under VAR jurisdiction?_____________________________

Good performance today without having to break sweat. Never really extended which is good with WBA due up on Wednesday.
Pathetic decision by the linesman to rule out Silva’s goal – Sane was onside – where’s VAR when you need it – not that it mattered in the end.
Horrendous ‘tackle’ on Sane, could easily have broken his leg. Hope he’s ok.
Anyway another hurdle taken care of.

Job done but should have been more comfortable.
Final ball seemed to be lacking but I’m that’ll be sorted for our next game.
Another Wembley trip.

Mav, they said that about Aguero – “too small”, etc,. etc.
I watched him a lot when he was about 19/20 at Palermo and you could tell he was a special talent. Since moving to Juve, he’s scored more than a goal every two games – not bad against Italian defenders.
Also, not sure how PSG are circumventing FFP – they paid £200m for Neymar and going to pay £170m for Mbappe._____________________________
