Now more details have emerged, I think GS has taken the right course of action. RS is clearly in the wrong here, however much he may have been provoked (if at all). Having emerged as one of England’s stars, both on and off the pitch, over the last 18 months does not give him the right to act in such a way.
He has apologised and this has been accepted by JG. That should now be the end of the matter and I’m sure as far as the two are concerned and the England camp, it will be. As for the press, they are like a dog with a bone and will look for the slightest hint of further problems and address their agenda accordingly.
It has also been revealed that Jordan Henderson played a role as ‘peacemaker’, even though he wasn’t with the squad at the time – massive credit to him._____________________________

HH, you ok mate?
The way I understand it is that VAR made their decision based on KDB scoring the goal, at which point Sterling was definitely onside and therefore ‘interfering’ with play does not come into it (as long as he doesn’t foul the keeper). The fact that Silva got a touch (and I’m not sure any camera angle conclusively confirms this) means that if/when he did, Sterling was offside and the goal should not have counted as he was obscuring the keepers sight. I don’t think VAR can be blamed in this instance – that doesn’t mean to say I’m 100% pro-VAR as there have been some very puzzling decisions made so far.
Hope that makes sense._____________________________

Agreed Adlab, the two young CBs looked very comfortable and fitted into the system well. Good overall team performance after making nine changes and into the hat for the next round.
(Hope that’s not being too arrogant ?)_____________________________

I assume JK won Coach of the Year for Liverpool winning the CL – obviously ignoring the fact they lost four games in the process, in what is essentially a knock-out tournament.
Meanwhile down the EL Road, Pep wins 4 (FOUR) trophies and not a sausage – very strange._____________________________

Cheers Nine. Just wanted to take a break from footie over the Summer – it really can become a bit of an obsession. Watched a lot of cricket and golf and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well I though I’d better let the dust settle before commenting on yesterday’s City/Spurs game (and my blood pressure to return to something near normal).
I do like the concept of VAR but it’s implementation and use is bordering on obsessive. There is absolutely no need to review every goal. It should be like in both rugby codes, where if the referee has any doubts he can request a review, giving an ‘onfield’ decision – goal or no goal – if there is ‘clear and obvious’ reason to overrule his decision then VAR evidence will stand. I also wouldn’t be opposed to manager challenges, say one per manager per half.
I don’t believe either referee or linesmen had any concerns over City’s goals last week or yesterday, or the Wolves goal v. Leicester. Reviewing every goal is already meaning the explosion of emotion that comes with a goal is becoming diluted and that will truly ruin the game. That coupled with the stupid new handball rule and the ridiculous claim that offside is ‘black & white’, while some random tech guy draws lines on a blurry image, at the same time as deciding the moment the ball was kicked, is surely verging on clusterfuck.
Having read all the posts on this thread since full time last evening, most are in agreement -why can’t the powers that be also see this?
Anyway, on to the match – I thought City were outstanding from first to last whistle. On another day, we would have given Spurs a spanking beyond the 6-0 handed out a few seasons back – but that’s football. Too early in the season to be bemoaning VAR decisions and one would like to think these things even themselves out over the season._____________________________

4th August 2019 at 7:42 pm in reply to: FA Community Shield 2019 – Liverpool V Man City 3pm – BT Sport 1 #44414A decent game of football. Liverpool appeared to treat it like a friendly in the first half as we did for most of the second.
Glad Raheem scored to shut the boo girls up. And showed his class at the end, going over to the Liverpool fans, gave his shirt away, signed autographs and had some photos taken._____________________________

Just thought I’d give my tuppence worth on this – for what it’s worth.
I knew the words to this song – can’t say I’ve ever sung it, bit too old for that now, maybe the odd rendition of Blue Moon or City, City but that’s about it.
My understanding was that it only referred to Liverpool’s trip to the CL Final last year. The line about Salah is actually “Ramos injured Salah” and the line “Victims of it all” was reference to the Salah injury and the excuses that were made because of it. At no point did I ever think there was any reference to the horrific attack on Sean Cox, I just assumed there was trouble in Kiev.
Perhaps I’m naïve, as I’m sure those City players/staff that were singing the song were. I can’t believe any of our players would sing it if they thought it referred to other incidents.
Not trying to make any excuses, just saying it as I see it.
Anyway guys, I know I don’t post that often but that’s probably it from me until next season, at least. I need to have a break from this – feeling I’m ‘treading on egg shells with one or two, each time I script a post – not sure that’s how it should be.
Have a great summer all._____________________________

Threeps @ 7;44pm today
“My opinion, without wanting to sound tribal or upset anyone, is that strict spending rules should of been implemented long ago before Chelsea and City could buy their way to recent success. It’s more a reflection of the game today than a dig at those clubs”.Well there we go. Are you Platini in disguise?
That’s exactly why FFP was brought in, engineered by the ‘cartel’ of powerful European clubs – Barca, RM, BM, (and one or two others). Pulling up the drawbridge before any ‘new money’ can muscle in. At the same time attempting to preserve their cosy niche, which in many examples was built on money. Barca and RM, as an example, basically wrote their own TV deals in Spain – now how can that be financially fair?_____________________________

Strange one. Charlton and Curbishly spring to mind. Some need to be careful what they wish for.

Chamionees, championees, ole ole ole.
Wonderful feeling – back to back titles. Now to get seriously pissed.
Commiserations to the Liverpool lads, your team were fantastic all season. I’ve said it before, but none of us deserved to be runners-up – but chins up, you’ve still got a CL Final to look forward to._____________________________

Really can’t believe what I’ve just seen. I didn’t think I’d see any comeback coming close to Liverpool’s last night but I think I’ve just seen it topped.
Marvellous second half from Spurs and particularly Lucas Moura.
Congrats to the Spurs lads on here.
An all English final. Good luck to both (if that is possible).
PL is definitely the best league in world football._____________________________
