Sean and Mak, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this conspiracy thing lads. I still think there’s something in it (and no I don’t believe in Father Christmas) but obviously can’t prove anything, all circumstantial at this point.
We’re not going to fall out over it – any additional stuff may come out in the next wash (CAS), so to speak._____________________________

“Itβs bullshit that UEFA are out to get them”
Sean, you being a ‘man of the world’ and all that ???, I don’t believe for one minute that you think that sort of thing can’t go on._____________________________

Threeps, no worries mate.
Tugay is correct though, UEFA introduced FFP in 2009. ‘Smokescreen’ or not, it was brought in, as they say, to help prevent the likes of the Portsmouth and Leeds United situations occurring again.
https://www.uefa.com/insideuefa/protecting-the-game/financial-fair-play/
The fact it was introduced shortly after the City and PSG buy-outs is more than coincidence, imo._____________________________

Cheers, Threeps.
It wasn’t me who suggested it’s “anti-Arabic” mate, it was another poster – read back and find who – I can’t be bothered.
My view is similar to Martin Samuel’s in that it was brought about by UEFA, after being pressured by the cosy cartel of established clubs in Europe. I could name them but I think we all know who most of them are.
I respect all views and, in truth, our opinions would be difficult to prove._____________________________

Personally never heard of the guy, Sean but he seems to write with some sort of agenda. I suppose that could be said about all journos but writing for the Irish Times, he’s probably a Liverpool or Man U fan, which may explain the agenda thing. Just my view, mind.

No Mav, be careful, you shouldn’t be “saying/writing” that stuff. I’d delete it very quickly. Silly boy.

Sorry, one more:
Threeps, I’ve told you why I think the rule was introduced, now give us your take on it._____________________________

In the words of Yogi Bear, “Beni, Beni Beni”?, come on – “….city have been financially doping and their achievements are tainted”. Financial doping comes in many forms, including using debt to buy players, a course of action used by many clubs but apparently UEFA are happy with that.
As I have stated previously, City have been found guilty of breaking a UEFA rule. As it stands, they are to serve a two season ban from Euro competitions. My real gripe is that the rule is itself flawed and could be deemed illegal in respect of European Competition Laws.
So yes, I agree City have cheated but the point I am making (and IMO) is that they have cheated an illegally restrictive and questionable rule. And, as Martin Samuel reports, was only introduced to protect the interests of the cartel of ‘Old Guard’ clubs in Europe.
The case is going to appeal and, like Brian, that’s all I’m going to say on the matter until after the CAS judgement.
Actually, no it’s not, I just hope City don’t use the ‘technicality’ card to try to have their case overturned and that they have some real evidence. UEFA did accuse us of not fully co-operating so we may have withheld some for such an eventuality – the question is though, why would they withhold it? Who knows, all will be revealed._____________________________

Give over threeps. City have done nothing “illegal”. They have, supposedly, broke a rule of UEFA. Firstly, I ask you why you think that rule was introduced in the first place. And second, the rule itself flouts European Competition law, effectively disallowing investment of a business owner investing funds in his own business. I think we all know the real reason the rule was introduced, don’t we?

I really can’t say I’m surprised by this the way City have been treated by UEFA over the last few years. You only have to look at some of the diabolical (pre-VAR) decisions in CL games.
It’s also hard to believe that (joke) rules, introduced by the previous (proven) corrupt UEFA hierarchy can now carry any credence.
UEFA still as bent as ever, now acting as judge, jury and executioner.
Still, It’ll save me a bob or two in CL tickets – sometimes you have to look on the bright side._____________________________

Sad news about Dave Watson. He’s been diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, the same illness that Jeff Astle died from, and attributed to heading footballs.
Imo, he’s one of the best CBs City has ever had and I still vividly remember the goal he scored at Maine Road (North Stand end) versus Ipswich Town – he met a corner from the left, about 15 yards out and thundered a header into the top corner to win the game. I still don’t think I’ve seen a more powerful headed goal to this day._____________________________

I think you’re right Brian but I’m sure Pep wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to manage him again, even if it was just for one year – especially with David Silva leaving at the end of the season.
I’m sure the club would recoup a vast majority (if not all) of his cost in merchandise, etc._____________________________

Saints should be out of sight. Spuds to nick it (again).

Mak, Andy, just read your reply posts from Friday on this tread.
Andy: Yeah, non Liverpool/City CL match will be good for a beer, I’ll be in touch.
Mak: That’s Nil for you. I don’t think you’ll lose any sleep over it, eh?_____________________________

Well I told you all at HT (just got the score wrong).
Defence was bobbins – Otamendi for their second goal, wtf was he doing pushing out and leaving Sonny Jim all alone. Anyway, he’ll be off in the summer and although I thought Walker was decent today, so will he. Then we can get Fernandinho in his best position, which in itself strengthens the defence.
Going forward – that’s around 35 attempts on goal in the last two games with FA to show in the ‘goals for’ column. Pep needs to drop Sterling, end of – he needs a kick up the jacksie.
As for Spurs, defended well, in the main, but not sure how long their (already) long-suffering fans will put up with Jose’s turgid understanding of football._____________________________

City by far the better team in the first half but this will end up 1-0 to Spuds.
About time Ederson takes the pens – missed 5 out of the last 6 – very poor._____________________________
