Good news – Aguero back in training.
My God do we need him back. It’s all fine spreading the goals around the team and yes, we are probably the best equipped team in the PL to get goals regularly from all our front six. However, it’s those ‘poached’, six yard box goals that we are missing.
In respect of the defence, Ake needs to be given a run at LB – Mendy, as demonstrated again on Saturday, makes far too many basic errors. Even his attacking ability has deteriorated – when he first signed, his low, pacey crosses created so many opportunities, which to some degree ‘masked’ his defensive shortcomings. I do, however, think his injuries have contributed to this.
The PL picture has changed quite a bit over the last 12/18 months and now there are more teams capable of creating problems for us. As a result, there is a greater emphasis on defenders being able to defend as well as being able to attack._____________________________

That would be hilarious Moos. Perhaps he thought he was back in Mykonos.

Andy, it’s been an unbelievable day in the PL (and start to the season for that matter).
I bet the bookies made a hell of a lot of money today, unfortunately._____________________________

Wow, what the hell is going on in the PL this season?
Long may it continue – at this rate we could have 5/6 teams vying for the title going into the last few weeks. Still, early days though.
Just an observation but I’m not sure any complaints pertaining to the number of deflected goals Villa scored carries any water whatsoever – Barclay missed two glorious chances in the first half, Villa hit the bar late on and Adrian saved two ‘one on ones’._____________________________

Sean, no he didn’t and I have no problems with any of his decisions today.
And yes, you’re spot on about how the FA are interpreting the rules and the main reason I’m sadly losing my love for the game._____________________________

“Oliver is the best ref in the league for me”
I agree Sean but it’s no coincidence that no English refs have gone to the last two international tournaments. Our standard of reffing is at an all time low – the facts don’t lie.
Having said that, they’ve not been helped by the FAs interpretation of the rules under VAR.
Football is dying and I much prefer to watch golf or cricket these days._____________________________

Probably the most inept defensive display from us for at least 10 years. We can all point fingers at individual players but for me, Pep has to take much of the blame – he plays 2 HMFs (Rodri and Fernandinho) and 2 full backs and all 4 were playing too far forwards when we were on the attack. Leicester only troubled us a couple of times in the first half as a result of the 2 CBs being exposed to their pacey attackers. When we were on the attack, one of Ferna or Rodri should have dropped back to form a back three, thus providing better cover against the break. Pep should have seen this and had words accordingly. Instead, he subs Ferna (at 1-1, very early in the 2nd half) and brings on a 17yo to play the lone striker role. We were doing ok at 1-1, nothing should have been changed so early, apart from, as I said, one of the HMFs should have sat deeper when we were attacking. Leicester only won the game after that change was made.
Having said that, well played Leicester. You took your chances (albeit 3 pens) and exposed our failings, both from management and the players.
(I bet Arteta would have spotted that)_____________________________

How lucky can a team get?
Brighton absolutely robbed. But having said that, if you don’t take your chances you don’t win games.
United’s defence is bobbins – Lindelof very poor and Wan Bissala gets drawn into the middle far too easily, especially when the opposition are attacking down the opposite wing – Brighton could and should have scored 2/3 from those positions in the last 20 minutes alone.
On their league showing so far, United are looking at 5th or 6th at best._____________________________

Brian, interesting one in terms of team selection for Thursday. Actually not sure who is fit, injured or in isolation. I think we’ll field a fairly strong one with maybe 3/4 of the younger players – Doyle, Garcia, Harwood-Bellis, Delap, etc. I also think that Bournemouth will field a weakened team as their priority has to be to get back in the PL, so no distractions for them.

Andy (HH: Moderator) Does this mean I have to bow to you when we (eventually) get to go out for a beer again?

In addition to that Brian, they’ll have fork out another £100m in wages for a player that clearly doesn’t want to be there – in his interview he stated he wanted to leave for the whole of last season. It was never about money (which he’s reportedly confirmed), he feels he wants a new challenge. Imo though, the desire for a new challenge is probably 2/3 years overdue.

Mav “One just has to look @ Bayern to see how to build a team,a winning machine without spending crazy amounts of £££.Brilliant institution, magnificent set up structure, top to bottom”
Just ask any German fan of any other Bundesliga team and they will tell you exactly how Bayern do their business – buying all their best players and bullying them into submission on the price. It’s no wonder they’ve won the last eight BL titles.

Small steps Ed. There’s been a massive improvement in United’s performances (certainly in going forward and the creativity side of their game) since the start of the year. Rome wasn’t built in a day, ask Sir Alex.
Had you had a bit more luck in front of goal tonight, this conversation wouldn’t have started.
Patience is what’s needed…………and perhaps a couple more defenders._____________________________

United should have wrapped the game up in the 20 mins after HT and then paid for the profligacy.
£175m for three of their defenders and defended like a pub team for the Sevilla winner. Lindelof just left the ball – what was he thinking?_____________________________
