RIP Gerard Houlier and condolences to his family.
As Mak posted earlier, did unbelievable things while at Liverpool, taking into consideration what little investment he had to work with.
Always came across as one of the nice guys in football, sadly one of the last. I think the tributes paid today are testament to the type of person he was._____________________________

Ed, coupled with the fact we’ve not been playing great, solid(ish) yes but not to the level we can play to.

“City will walk all over us on Saturday” – mmmm, I hope you’re right but I’m not so sure Ed.

The luck finally runs out.
Never a penalty in a million years – the United striker leaned into the defender, with the defender not deviating from a straight line. The Pogba/Maguire ‘goal’ was handball.
Justice served in the end though._____________________________

Comfortable win. Should have been more – missed three ‘1 on 1s’ again and KdB hits the bar.
There was (minimal) contact but Sterling going down too easily for the pen. I don’t like to see it but in this day and age, will, more often than not, get a penalty and VAR won’t overrule it.
Looking much better defensively and good to see Stones getting some game time – Dias looks class.
Another three points and now within touch of the front runners._____________________________

Brilliant Maradona documentary on Channel 4 tonight, mainly about his time at Napoli. I’ve seen it before but recorded it again tonight. Well worth getting it on ‘catch-up’.
Forget the ‘hand of God’ thing, (nearly) all players cheat, he was an absolute genius of a footballer.
RIP DAM._____________________________

It really is like a breath of fresh air going to watch a non-league game – no diving, no feigning injury, no play acting, no little skill, only about a tenner to get in and above all, NO VAR.
It would be interesting to hear if any others on here go and watch lower league or non-league football._____________________________

Must say, Leeds are very pleasing on the eye – probably play with at least as much pace as any team in the PL. Good and well deserved win at Goodison.
Also, big shout out for my non-league team, Chorley FC, who made it through to the 3rd round of the FA Cup. Won 2-1 at Peterborough (2nd in League One), after going 1-0 down in the second minute. Chorley then went on to hit the post twice in the first half. They scored twice in about 5 minutes earlyish in the second half and even went on to miss a penalty. Thoroughly deserved win. I get down to watch them whenever I can – real football. Hope they get one of the biggies in round three – City would be nice._____________________________

Wonderful performance from Liverpool tonight, bearing in mind the loss of 3/4 (absolute) key players. Their pressing when out of possession, their movement when in and their pace of play is untrue – are they powered by Duracell? Much credit goes to JK, imo.
On the evidence so far this season, we are light years behind Liverpool and Pep has some serious thinking to do, just to finish in the top four.
Did we let David Silva go too soon? Stats don’t lie – last eight games of last season (with him) Gf 27, Ga 2; first eight games of this season, Gf 10, Ga 11.
Very early days but it looks like a long barren season for us._____________________________

Only one team wanting to play football ……. sadly. Typical, anti footfall, Maureen show.
What is it with Us, Spurs and VAR? We always get shafted by it when we play them._____________________________

Threeps, I’m somewhat ambivalent about Messi joining us (if it were to happen). On the one hand, his signing would provide greater global exposure for the club and I think he will still have something to offer on the pitch – although as Brian has mentioned, his game time would be selective.
On the other, City appear to have a great team ethic and camaraderie and the signing of a global superstar may upset that situation; I’m not saying it would and it would be up to Pep to manage accordingly, but there is always that chance.
Having said that, it would be great to see him in sky blue, even if it was just for one or two seasons._____________________________

Great news (at least for us Blues), Pep signs a contract extension until 2023. Hopefully now he can rebuild the team around his signings from this Summer, two of which, Dias and Torres, have made good starts. Additionally, it should encourage KdB to sign a new deal.

A fair result in the end.
For the neutral probably a very good game to watch for the most part but for us and Liverpool fans, it doesn’t do much for a healthy heart.
Liverpool bossed the first 25 minutes but then City became acclimatised to their change in formation.
Definite penalty in this day and age; not saying it’s right (because it’s not) but if your arm is extended beyond your silhouette and stop a cross/shot then it’s a penalty, end of._____________________________

“….multi tasking for the team”
Therein lies the problem with Bernardo, Brian – he’s being asked to play in too many different positions, week in, week out, and not allowed to settle in his best position, which imo is wide right.
The old saying is, he doesn’t know if he’s on his head or his arse._____________________________

I am not disputing it was a pen, Sean – there was (slight) contact.
What I am saying is Salah went down like he’d been shot and squealed like a little girl._____________________________

Mak, the ‘take-up’ was well below what they were expecting as they anticipated people sharing the cost and watching at one household. However, the latest re-tightening of lockdown protocol has put paid to that.
There shouldn’t be any additional cost at this time…………..end of._____________________________

Much improved performance from us. Greater intensity, fluid movement, passed the ball crisper and with much more pace. Basically dominated from first to last whistle. Stand out performers were KdB (again), Foden and Walker. And a special mention to our CBs, Laporte and Diaz, who both looked solid – Diaz’s reading of the game was top notch – just need to sort out the LB position.
Perfect starts in CL for both us and Liverpool – 6 pts each.
Hoping the performance tonight can be reflected in our league form, as we have three tough fixtures looming – Sheff United away, Liverpool at home and Spurs away._____________________________
