Didn’t watch our game, but just seen the starting lineup we put out and clearly Rodgers had no aspirations in this game. Seriously, in that 11 he picked there are 3 players I would pick in our strongest 11.
Vestergard and Amartey as our CBs are a circus act and Albrighton as right back. We had no chance with that set up_____________________________

Ed, you keep talking about the CL being a blight on Ronaldo Nazario’s record but I’m pretty sure any player will take a world cup win over a CL win!
Like Chucky said, taking trophies into account is misleading.
If you really want to use that as a measure, then there is no greater case than Maradona, who took a nothing team to win Serie A._____________________________

Ronaldo Nazario was completely unplayable. The injuries he incurred were both devastating for him and the footballing world, robbed everyone of his best years. The debate of the best is definitely between he and Maradona for me.

My point is, everyone always gets caught up in the hype of the now. It’s like when you run a popular poll of greatest singles or music artists they tend to get flooded with candidates from the now in favour of true time-honoured classics. When people really get time to reflect objectively, I don’t believe either will feature in most people’s top 3-4 players of all time.
Would love to have seen Pele and especially Maradona with today’s protectionism rules. Maradona would get assaulted every time he got the ball and do his darnedest to stay on his feet. For me, he was the best. Had the touch of Zidane, the playful entertainment value of Dinho, the silky running with the ball of Messi and the heart and determination of a lion._____________________________

on that debate, Messi never won the WC! In fact, he’s only just this year won his first ever International tournament!

If you’re talking about pure ability and not trophies, then I place Pele, Maradona, Zidane, Ronaldo Nazario and Ronaldinho above both of them. They were absolutely all joys to watch and did stuff I hadn’t seen before. Messi and Ronny are refiners of the afortmentioned players IMO, nothing original about what they do.
No one can argue with Messi and R7’s success they will likely never be bettered

I think when the dust settles and these two retire people will start to realise that neither are the greatest of all time

What is so hard to understand that HE WASN’T sent off, so what does it matter. We’re analysing the game based on how it played out, not how it could have played out or should have played out. Bottom line is, Spurs had the best chances.

The Spurs v Liverpool game reminds me of the one from 2 years ago when Mourinho famously stated they were the better team at the end of the game despite not having much possession. They had the better chances just didn’t take them, seems this was the same

Maddison, again like the Salah one is soft but not a dive. Defender dangles out a leg like that into the path of a player then you’re asking for trouble. He was already in the air (as part of his stride) and yes probably could have stayed on his feet but he wass still illegally impeded so it is a pen. Obviously some will disagree, but he was definitely fouled whether Maddison manufactured it or not. Lascelles doesn’t needlessly lunge he doesn’t give Maddison a chance.
Rudiger is a 7foot giant who plays hard and takes players out for fun and then abuses them, then goes down at the slightest of touches on his ankle. Both of your pens were not just soft they were absolute gifts and you Chelsea fans are being very precious on this thread._____________________________

My god! How much did Chelsea pay the ref for that??? Shocking calls against Leeds there! Rudiger trying to overturn his hardman image by being an absolutely soft diver now, is he?
The Salah pen I’m ok with although still soft. He gets front position and then does a Vardy where you step in front of the defender to shield them from getting the ball and hopefully gets clipped. Clever if anything. Villa should have got their own pen though, seen that replay 3 times and from all the pens I’ve seen today it’s right up there as one._____________________________

Really not sure what people are banging on about with regards to the red. No way was it a red nor a yellow in my book. Completely accidental, his momentum was taking him that way, he wasn’t even looking at the player, he had to plant his foot somewhere and unfortunately it was Tomayasu’s head. It was purely accidental

I think, in fairness to Arteta he’s received his managerial tuition under Pep. Pep’s coaching philosophy is very one directional, in that if Plan A doesn’t work, then Plan B is to do Plan A better. This is, to some degree why I think he hasn’t won the CL so far. When he’s come up against very tactically astute opposition coaches who’ve set up to nullify his tactics they haven’t had another way to beat that opposition.
Arteta seems to follow this same process, he has one way and no plan B. Problem is, Pep has been given an open cheque book and has the world’s best players to choose from. Arsenal on the other hand just don’t have access to that calibre of player, so as a manager you have to be more pragmatic and learn to change and adapt, which I am yet to see under Arteta._____________________________

I was gutted to see Gray leave. Problem with him though is consistency and attitude. I always got the feeling like he had a negative attitude with us. However his ability is undeniable!
Arteta’s tactics again are baffling. Arsenal have won quite a lot of these games by fine margins this season, especially where Ramsdale has been MoM for them. That type of tactical setup of trying to absorb pressure and sit on a lead is Russian Roulette IMO and cannot work everytime. Arsenal have really ridden their luck a lot this season and I’m not sure how many more times this tactic will work

Yeah, Kasper is really pissing me off at the moment. I think we have now conceded 10 goals from set pieces this season and all of them are because he will not come out. Instead he whinges and carries on. We are a shambles on set pieces and he is playing a huge part

I wonder if the difference between the three clubs by the end of the season will come down to their African players

“I really canβt understand all this fuss about Pochettino he was sacked by Spurs 2 years ago having won nothing in the 5 years that he was there failing every time to get Spurs over the line to win a trophy when Spurs got themselves in a position to do so and he flunked a one horse title race in France.”
Definitely sounds like you don’t like him. In that paragraph above, in the same sentence you say that Pochettino fails to get them over the line but Spurs as a team gets them to the brink of winning. So failure is an individual failure whereas winning is a team win. Harsh!

In a one-off winner takes all game, tactics and skill come second to desire and composure. Pep is amazing at the former two but his teams have been shown up in the latter two on occasion.

I’ll believe this talk of Zidane going to PSG when I see it. It would be the ultimate sin for his Marseille heritage!
