I agree with most of the above comments. I think Rodgers is a very good developper of talent. The tactics against Palace at the weekend were simply mind-boggling. People saying he would do well at a big club need to ask this simple question. At a “big club” anything short of winning the league or the Champions League would be considered a failure, right? Do you really think Rodgers could do that with the resources? Look at the other managers he is up against! I think Leicester has shown his limit. Taking a mid-table club to the brink of CL qualification is one hell of an achievement and maybe he could jag a spot but I’d say that would rely more on one of the big clubs having a shocker (ie: Man U holding onto to Ole for too long)

In response to your message about Leicester, Ed. Yeah, I’ve never really seen the hype around Rodgers being a top manager. I think he’s a very good one, but he’d be out of his depth at a massive club. I’d say he could do a decent job at Arsenal right now, but they are hardly a massive club anymore.
We’ve had a lot of issues with personel again this season. Fofana and Evans not starting this season has been huge for us. Now Ndidi is supposed to be out for a month. When I saw that lineup Rodgers put out and more importantly the formation I knew it was going to be a really bad day. His lack of changing something that clearly wasn’t working against Palace really pissed me off. Hamza was playing his first game of the season, had played no minutes so far this season in any comp and he goes and puts him as the lone defensive mid in a 442. Absolutely crazy! He didn’t change it until they had got a goal back and by then it was too late. The 2-0 lead was totally against the run of play, we had 2 chances and we took them both, otherwise it was the worst performance under Rodgers.
I am so relieved the international break is here as we need Evans back ASAP, we are an absolute shambles defensively, something we were so strong in last season.
I’m now starting to get worried

Been saying it for a long time, but putting a learner driver in charge of a lambourghini is a recipe for disaster

I get what he’s trying to claim, but he’s drawing a fricking long bow there. As Hause goes for the header Watkins is not touching De Gea at all and is actually to the left of De Gea. The ball ends up going to the right of De Gea, so Ole is clutching at straws there. He also had a whinge about the Villa players harassing Bruno on the pen.
Searching for excuses in his interview. Seems like the pressure is getting to him to me_____________________________

Ole’s on fucking drugs! Trying to claim Villa’s goal is offside! What a clown!

So, I can’t say I’ve seen too much of Sancho play. I don’t watch the Bundesliga so haven’t seenn much from him. When all the talk was going around last season of United signing him I looked up his highlights package on youtube, which is normally just an opportunity to see a player at their very best only and I have to say, I was totally underwhelmed. I get he’s very young and still developping but as soon as you affix the type of transfer fee to him you are expecting a certain level of football. I haven’t seen that yet from him but that doesn’t mean to say that won’t change. But so far, nothing I have seen from him suggests anything extraordinary.

I think that is a harsh assessment. Remember, one of the big problems with international football teams is they don’t get the opportunity to play and train as a group often enough to gel completely. If you consider that it took Burnley 8 games into last season to win a game that shows you the struggle international teams face.
If the England squad trained and played week in, week out I reckon they could be easily top 4, possibly even top 2 (assuming you’re cloning those players you’re selecting for England from the other teams in the league). I still maintain Gareth is clueless tactically but again, under a team based set-up you would assume he would have more tactically-minded support staff than he does now.

Rover, commentators all agree the goals should have stood, even Matthew Upson an ex-Brighton player. Barnes never impeded the keeper in any way. The keeper had no chance on both goals. It’s utter bullshit!

Brighton have been gifted a joke of a pen and we’ve had two perfectly good goals ruled out!

This is fucking ridiculous!!!! Another goal ruled off for the same reason. Neither time the keeper even was close to it!!!! VAR is a joke in this game!!!

Fuck me! I swear VAR has got it in for us in this game. Now a goal ruled out for offside obstructing the keeper when he’s nowhere near the keeper

VAR back to its old tricks. The pen against us is absolute bullshit! Vestergaard’s handball was 100% caused by Maupay deliberately fouling him and pulling him to the ground. Unbelievable!

“Some players are so good that itβs impossible to not be somewhat dependent on them. Van Dijk is one such player.”
Not sure I really agree with that. City’s reliance on KDB is not that huge and yet I rate him as the best midfielder in world football right now. They play equally as well without him.

Yeah, don’t get me wrong, I admire that but we have pretty much learned over the last 18 months that bringing in unproven and completely inexperienced managers into huge clubs doesn’t work (Frank, Arteta and IMO Ole). Pep is a complete and utter freak of nature and those that keep referring to him as a success story are pointing to the 1 percenters.
It appears that Ole is the benefactor of good will. If Jose, Klopp or Pep had the squad Ole has now and for the last year or so, people would be far less forgiving and asking for their heads

Yeah, I agree with you completely. The whole argument I keep hearing of how he got them second place I think is weak. Firstly, he’s had the second best squad in the league for a few years now. He’s also been incredibly lucky with injuries to key players (or lack of). Thirdly, last season was a freak of a season, sure everyone was in the same boat but a few what ifs with the other clubs (Liverpool losing so many players, Chelsea bringing in Tuchel earlier and even us not losing so many key players) and I don’t think he would have got a Champs League spot. I know, a lot of what ifs. My point is, he’s been very lucky. His man-crush on Fred is absolutely baffling and his decision making with subs and tactics at times are incredibly naive. When commentators are predicting in games what is going to happen if Ole doesn’t change things and then it happens because Ole didn’t change things you know he doesn’t have a clue.

On Bielsa, I like him but I liken him a bit to Keegan. Throw caution to the wind and attack at all costs. I think Bielsa is a bit more measured than Keegan but not a huge amount. Bielsa, I think has taken Leeds as far as he can with those tactics. He might jag a top 6 spot, who knows, but I do doubt it.
