Probably end up playing 4-2-3-1 after 1 training session and realising the shite he has at his disposal.

It is a poison chalice position now Sean.
United have only had 2 good managers in their entire history, although both ran the club for 50 years combined. The rest of the time, United were lingering midtable or had a few seasons challenging, winning a few tinpots here and there. That’s where the club is now.
There isn’t any realistic big characters available to fix this. Whilst at Chelsea, Tuchel did not once challenge for the title. He would have been a disaster at United.

Tuchel wasn’t the best option. United need stability, Tuchel doesn’t offer that. If some players thought ETH was tough on them, Tuchel is on a different level.

Apologies for the misunderstanding Sean..
I am saying it is both. The management have allowed the players get their way for so long, which has resulted in the players choosing when to turn up. Players are pretty much playing for themselves, someone in management should have sided with the manager and clamped down on this.

Mikus-
Liverpool were close to winning the league title 15 months prior to when Klopp came. Liverpool were heading the right direction off the pitch with the right structure in place, they just needed the right manager to lead them there which they found.
When Ten Hag came in United needed another rebuild. The club suffered its worst point total in years and looked lost with no direction. The same was said when Van Gaal arrived, when Ole arrived and when Jose arrived. If the same things keeps repeating itself under different managers, you then question whether it is actually the manager. The players who let the previous managers down were still there when Ten Hag arrived. Whilst Pep and Klopp had the freedom to let go of such players, Ten Hag didn’t. Coutinho would still be at Manchester United earning 800k a week if he played for the club. The club would have caved in to Sterlings demands and so on. No player was bigger than the manager or club(This is what United once were under Ferguson), now players are bigger than the club. Once you let that stink the place up, you’re in trouble.
Whoever came in was not only up against the ego driven players who think they are better than what they are, they were also up against a commercial driven structure. Selling shirts and making money mattered more than on field success.

Pep also came 3rd his 1st season, on 78 points. Suffered some embarrassing defeats too, after spending close to £200m, taking over a side which already had Kompany, Fernandinho, Silva, De Bruyne, Sterling, Aguero. Trophyless too.

Klopp arrived at Liverpool and instantly got rid of Sakho(best cb for Liverpool at the time), he also got rid of Ings. Both apparently had a poor attitude. Pep comes in and gets rid of Yaya Toure and gave Aguero a ultimatum. Did the players feel their mates were being disrespected?
Ten Hag comes in, gets rid of Ronaldo, who he found disruptive and Sancho, who he gave numerous chances to. Yet the players turn against him. Problem at United was Woodward allowed players get their way. He fucking gave Pogba a new contract, after Pogba told him he wanted to leave and it wasn’t working out.
It is easy to blame the manager, when the problem layed deeper than that. Ten Hag lost control long before the new partial owners came in. That was down to how the previous regime did things.
Jose and Van Gaal were big name managers, how did they turn out.
Not sure why some fans are suggesting some managers for United, when they did not once call for the same managers when their manager left.

Not sure ETH can be classed as up and coming if I am honest Sean. He is 54 years old and is a similar age to when Jose arrived at United.
Not excited about Amorim, regardless of people say about him. The whole thing seems flat. Roy Keane said it best, a leopard never changes its spots. Players will never change, especially if they do not get their way.

1 thing United have not done over the years since Ferguson is give a young up and coming manager a chance. They went with the established and experienced and all have failed.

Interesting discussion on talk sport. Some Spanish dude said Amorim and Alonso have a similar style of play. Both like to play with 3 at the back and utilise wing backs. Reckon both rejected some club because the club didn’t have a pot to piss in and didn’t want to be controlled by some committee. It could not be down to style, if their number 1 choice plays a similar formation to their number 2 choice.

What a absolute smug post by someone who supports a so called big club that has only delivered 1 league title in 34 years.
All because I made a comment about Liverpool needing to resort to their 3rd or 4th choice to replace Klopp.
Glad you’re aware that this season is only 9 games old. Spurs were league title contenders 10 games in last season.
Like I said let’s see how the yes man does when the transfer committee expects him to develop the next Salah or Van Dijk, when he has players forced on to him.
Edit: I know United are in a sad state of affairs. I have only been talking about it the last year.

Understand this thread is about Ten Hag and his successor. But I will make 1 last point. I believe Klopp was a better manager than Pep. The only difference both had was strength in depth. One got backed, whilst the other had to work miracles. Klopp has left Slot a decent side, but the best players are ageing. If Slot has the same tranfers restraints to Klopp, then Liverpool are in trouble imo. Klopp is an elite manager, the jury is out on Slot. Liverpool’s transfers the last 2-3 years have been questionable and you’re relying on Van Dijk and Salah to perform in order to win games. You also do not have a 100m plus player anymore to help buy players. In today’s game only a manager like Klopp can work under those circumstances. In the end it took a toll on him.

Looks like it is Ruben Amorim.
39 years old. United’s 2nd youngest ever manager behind Busby. Let’s hope he is just as successful.

I always said if Ten Hag had the right structure in place, then he would have succeeded. The reason why he brought in so many ex players is because United did not have footballing people in place when he arrived and had to rebuild a broken squad, so he turned to who he knew. United have been a shambles for years when it comes to transfers, who they signed under Ten Hag and those signings not succeeding isn’t a new thing, it happened under Ole, Jose, Van Gaap and Moyes too.
It is working for Liverpool now, but soon you will have to replace the likes of Salah, Van Dijk, Trent(if he doesn’t sign a deal). That will be the real test and there are not players like them. This structure of not allowing the manager decide who comes in will only work to an extend. If Liverpool pick up some injuries to key players, then people will look at last summer and ask why didn’t the manager get backed.
Serious question, does Slot have a final say on who Liverpool sign or not?
