That’s the really scary thing, Waspy, with the clout Qatar already had, having the Qatari’s taking over and very possibly employing the same underhand “who cares about the rules” attitude, they would be a force to be reckoned with that even Abu Dahbi and Saudi couldn’t cope with, especially if these the “FFP linked to turnover” rules either make any sense or, even more unlikely, genuinely enforced…
But totally agree, every pot that any of the Middle East clubs collect from now on will have a blood soaked asterix next to them…
As for Neville Neville’s eldset Neville, he has gone rather quiet but let’s be fair, that is to be expected… in his very weak defence, he can hardly do anything but tow the party line otherwise he’ll never be allowed to set foot in Old Trafford again…
English football is in a very sad state of affairs… and there’s nothing we can do about it, other than find another “hobby”…

Come on Nil, they’ve already done you a favour because of you stand issues, you want more? You still have to play the same 38 games as everybody else…
Personally, I’ve always thought it’s the last 7/8 games of the season where you want all the “easier” games… that’s when the pressure is on… as for the start of the season, everyteam has new players (except Jammy Todgers who’ll buy a whole new team! 🙂 ), that kinda evens itself out… anyway, didn’y you just buy Brighton’s best player?? Best time to play them!

Come on Adders, bit like picking the prettiest of the ugly sisters, innit? If the best defence you’ve got is “we ain’t as bad as them lot” you don’t have mucch of a defence? 🙂
I think we can all agree it isn’t just money that buys success (we only have to look at the Jammy Todgers this season for proof of that!) but when you’ve got unlimited funding and 6 million lawyers to “prove” you weren’t cheating it certainly gives you an advantage over teams on a budget and playing by the rules. I know “Pep’s Net Spend” does cast a very gentle and minute glow over Abu Dhabi’s success for the last 4/5 years, but we all also know the billion plus “Net Spend” spunked in the 7/8 years before Pepe took over sure gave him a jolly nice pearch to preach from… “Look at me, I’ve made a profit selling 600 players that previous manangement brought before I got here!”…
Let’s be honest, unlimted funding and blantant disregard for
basic human rightsthe rules certianly give you an advantage…So, it looks like Qatar FC are now players too… so Middle East Top 3 and the rest of us playing for 4th in the not to distant future…

That’s it in a nutshell… Abu Dhabi have the edge over everybody else, and everybody else will end up taking points off each other much to Abu Dhabi’s glee… and they’ll be celebrating #4-in-a-row next year…

Hopefully we’ll be leading at the top of the table quite comfortably as we have Saudi, Abu Dhabi, Goonies and the Micky Mousers in 4 of our last 7 games, we could possibly choke our chickens even worse than the Goonies did last year… 🙂
More likely we’ll need to make sure we reach the magical 40 point mark by game 31 as we aren’t likely to pick up many after that…
Nevermind… nice(ish) games over Christmas, nothing worse for ruining your holidays…

Not that I’m aware of, Micky, but we’ve been sniffing around young Jimmy for ages (we tried to nab him when he was at Norwich) and Ange, according to the cyber rags, have already given his “blessing”…

So, where to now???
A crazy summer of transfers beckons, undoubtedly all done 3 games into the season and 12 hours before the window shuts…
Said it before, with all the loanees coming back, we might have a squad bigger than the Jammy Dodgers…
Right now, I think a new GK, new CB and some level of attacking mid-fielder are depserately required…and I would like to think Danny-boy could open his wallet up for that without resorting to the old chestnut of “sell before you buy” card, especially if the “style” is going to change drasticlly from the more defensive mindset of Maureen/Conte reigns.
Right now, I’d be happy for something like Pickford, Maguire and Maddison coming in (maybe around 120 million for three?), although I’m sure Ant-Man has got a few other players in mind.
As for outs? Be my guest, a lot of heads on the potential chopping block…
Hopefully next years team/bench could look something like this…
GK: Pickford, Forster
RB: Porro/Royal/Spence (surely sell one of them?)
LB: Destiny/Wee Reggie (good squad player, can also play LM which might be better suited to his game)… sell Wee Ryan/Davies(although good sqaud player)/release Perisic..
CB: Cuti/Maguire (La Porta?), Lenglet/Dier as backups… sell Rodon/Sanchez/Tanganga (with a bit of luck!)Assuming we have a 4-3-3 formation (accrording to the rags)..
Bentcur/HodgePodge/Maddison with Skipp/Sarr/N-Dumb/(still a quality player, just a mental prick!)/Bissouma as back ups.. sell Winksy/Lo Cecil (fingers crossed!)
Up top
Son/Harry/Kulu with Blondie/Gil/New signing as back-ups… sell everybody else
Hopefully get around 60/70 from all the sales… leaving us with a “net” spend of about 50 million… that should be doable I reckon!

I reckon he’ll get at least a season… (unless we’re really in the brown stuff by Christmas)… sounds like a lot of players coming and going and certainly a different style of footy when compared with Maureen/Conte… it sounds like, at the very least, we’ll be entertained at least, heading back to the days of Ossie’s Madness…
Just hoping for a Top 10 finish… 7th or above would be a bonus… CL footy or a cup a bloody miricle.
We had 6/7 years of flirting with success, back to the mid-table boredom now…

Thinks it’s a bit harsh to give a peno for handball if it’s very likely to hit another part of the body if the hand/arm wasn’t there…

The problem with “handballs”, and the same as “fouls” too, is simply the decisions are subjective…. offsidess, for example, it’s either offside or it isn’t… (in theory, obviously VAR still make a mockery of that one too!)… but for handball/fouls… was it intentional handball or accidental handball? Was their enough “force/illegality” in the tackle to make it a foul?
VAR is only going to “prove” it hit the hand/arm, or in the case of fouls, if contact was made… it’s still down to the poor sod in black to decide whether the incident in question deserves a whistle or not… VAR isn’t really going to prove that or not, especially in slo-mo mode…
Personally, I think the peno was very harsh on Wee Jack… I don’t think the “intention” was there even if his hand was, he was jumping up trying to head the ball and had the ball headed onto his hand more than anything else…
Maybe is was correct by the rules (but the rules is an Arsenal at the moment)….

Can’t say I’m that impressed, cyber chum, was kinda hoping for either Nagelsmann or Enrique or Poncho, (and probably in that order too!)… don’t think this lad would have made it on my list at all (never heard of him before about 2 months ago)… a bit of a punt out of left field I can’t help thinking, maybe it will work, odds are it won’t, and I can’t see the sort of players we need to sign queing up to sign for him. I’d be putting my Monster Munch on him not lasting 2 seasons if I’m honest.
Basically heading towards a proper re-build and wasting our last year with Harry (no frigging way he’ll be signing a new contract!)… or just keeping the seat warm until Jammy Dodgers sack Poncho! 🙂
But then again, Buffy bought a round once, so strange things do happen, maybe he’ll surprise everyone with doubles too!

Well. he play’s an “expansive” style by all accounts, so at least the armchair warriors can’t complain about negative football… just left with the losing every week element! 🙂
And letting Harry bugger off to Spain for a bit wouldn’t be a problem for me, probably 2nd behind choice behind actually staying in N17!

Looking very likely we’ll be getting this Celtic fella in the dug-out… not the most impressive of CV’s considering others that are on the market… but I guess time will tell whether it’s worth the gamble or not… only a 2 year contract is seems… not the biggest vote of confidence I wouldn’t have thought, suggests Danny-boy already has one eye on the next manager already…
I guess we just have to wait and see!!
