9… dude, but you would be bunching up the club games in all empty “international” weeks… the leagues would be finishing in April or something… your “notion” of my idea would mean leaving all this two week “blanks” during the season…. 🙂

So, reports are saying Vicious Vinny Jansen is of to
FenenerrnebebebbecheTurkey on loan for the season, with a possible recall n January if the Spuds fancy it… probably a good move for Vinny, really can’t see him getting much game time with Llronte now in the squad._____________________________

Mate, come on, buddy, fluffy furry friend, the season stays exactly the same length, I really don’t how else I can explain it. There are no extra games, the season doesn’t go on longer.
Let me try and explain it another way!! 🙂
Go and get 32 Mars Bars and 5 Twix’s, lay them out on a table next to each other with the Twix’s mixed up between them. Hopefully, you’ll get a row of 37 chocolate bars, with little gold slithers of packaging mixed up with the Mars Bars.
Now take out all the Twix’s, bunch up all the Mars Bars, and put all the Twix’s back down next to each other at the end. You may be surprised to note you still have 37 chocolate bars, but with all the gold ones at one end and NO EXTRA CHOCOLATE BARS ANYWHERE!!!!
Are we clear now? 🙂

Mate, no insult intended, just can’t work out how you’re not understanding my concept (as pointless as it is as we both agree it’s not going to happen!). The length of the season remains exactly the same, there is no “extension”… we play all club games first so pre-season stays exactly the same, and then we play all the internationals at the end of the season, so the end of the season stays the same, so all summer tourneys/holidays etc.. remain the same. We’re simply re-arranging the “37 week” season so all club games are played back-to-back, and all international games are played back-to-back. The complete season stays exactly the same, the only difference would be the club season finishes a few weeks earlier.
I just don’t get where this whole “extending the season” idea comes into it from your side, my cyber woof woof chum! 🙂

9,nine,nien… you have to be winding me up! Good one, I almost believed you! Little tip, my cyber chum, nobody (with possibly the exception of Wayne Rooney and Donald Trump) can be that academically challenged not to understand my post 1:15!! I was almost going to make an excel sheet at work but I have no idea how to post one on here! I doff my cap, you had me going good and proper!

Mate, come on, what part of this is confusing? 🙂
Don’t know the exact numbers but for example, the club season lasts 32 weeks and you have 5 weeks worth of international fixtures, you have 37 weeks of football, with the international weeks mixed in the 37 weeks. Yes?
Now, you play the 32 weeks of club football first, then the 5 weeks of international football AFTER, you still have 37 weeks of football. Yes?
The qualifiers are split over the 2 end of season international periods between tourneys.
The seasons length stays exactly as it is, the tourney’s stay exactly as it is. The only difference is the international fixtures aren’t mixed in with the club football… simples! 🙂

1) we’ll agree to disagree on this, as I feel the manager changes the squad every “meet-up” so having one 12 months before a tournament benefits nobody.
2) perhaps I haven’t explained this properly. The season would still be the same length, you move the international “weeks” after the end of the season and then bring the end of the season forward to close up all the gaps. Would still be the same in length.
3) Yeah, you’re probably right on that (unlikely to change), they need to milk it for all its worth as the expense of us mere mortals! 🙂

Paxo… I personally struggle with any form of friendlies… there is so much football on this days, watching what is basically a posh training session doesn’t create any form of fizz in my beans.

9,nine,nien… agree with point 1, disagree with point 2 (being my thought would be there is no benefit at all have a friendly in February, for exammple, and have a game with 28 substitutions to warm-up for a tourny 6 months down the road, with every player involved having one eye on their next club match anyway and playing at 60%) and with regards to point 3, with my plan/suggestion, the season would still be the same length, you would just have club games first and then internationals afterwards, rather than stopping club games for pointless internationals and extending the club season that way…

Sorry Nil, it was Double H who mentioned the friendlies at the end of the season… just saw the Pool badge and thought of you…. Ahhhhhhh…. 🙂
Still think the majority of us footy lovers love international football but only when it actually counts for something. Friendlies in the middle of the season? No, that doesn’t count. Qualifiers against minnows? No, that doesn’t count. Actual games where the result actually matters? Yes, that does count!
To me, the qualifiers (just going to ignore friendlies altogether!) are a bit like the group games in the CL, nobody really cares and you can predict the result in about 80% plus of the games anyway.

Nil… who said anything about the friendlies at the end of the season? Scrap them all together, they’re just a cash cow anyway, and play 6/7 qualifiers in odd years over a 3 week period, and the rest the following year before the tourney… be like a proper mini-practise tournement.. got to be more effective than the occasional one-off friendly against Iceland or something….

The quality of international football with the miss-matches is one thing, but I think the bigger problem is the timing of it all which causes resentment (or at least it does in my house!).
Boring summer with no Euros/WC, finally football comes back and BAM!! three games in and we stop for a fortnight to for Malta vs England…
As for the European Wide “Solution”, I think they’ve missed the point entirely and used the excuse to cram in even more games to suit their own cash-revenue agenda….. (remind you of any other ‘recent’ ground-breaking cash related rules?).

Paxo… I was kinda thinking at the end of the season, shouldn’t get in the way of any pre-season nonsense. Scrap the 3/4 weekends during the season and shorten the season by a couple of weeks each end…
With regards to your comment “wish there was
Belinda in my bedinternational football this weekend” totally agree, I’ve never said it myself, but that’s because it gets in the way of the Prem. Let’s have the club games, get them sorted, and then have the internationals, get them sorted, then have summer….. repeat… sounds like a piece of fried gold to me!_____________________________

I really think England should get a real “man-manager” involved somewhere, someone like Harry Redknapp or somebody…

Nil… are you the new 9,nine,nien? Nice big long post without actually saying anything… 🙂
Steady Eddy, interesting link. However, I read it and got a headache. So there is going to be a mini-pre-qualifying tournament with six games each to help organize the pots for the qualifying tournament of 10 games each to find the qualifiers for the summer tournament that is scheduled to be expanded with 24 teams from the 55 teams odd that start in the mini-pre-qualifying tournament? With lots of play-offs involved so all the big-dogs get multiple chances to make sure they qualify? Then we get 6 groups of 4, with the top 2 plus 4 best 3rd places to go into the last 16 with thankfully actually starts to be a straight knock-out competition? Now watch Engerland fook it up!
Hmm… I would think they are trying to milk this even more because you know the buggers will still want pre-mini-qualifying-tournament-friendlies somewhere… 🙂

Have to disagree my cyber chum!
Granted, the pointless friendlies and about 80% of the qualifiers are major snooze feasts, but I love it when the actual tournament gets going every other summer. This summer was bloody awful without one to be honest.
What I would like to see, rather than the annoying breaks you get during the season, would simply have the qualifiers condensed somehow. Perhaps 60% or so played at the end of the “odd” seasons, then the rest played at the end of the “even” seasons before the Tournament kicks off. If you shortened the club seasons (and you would have a few extra weeks spare now) I see no reason why it wouldn’t work from a logistic reason.
Or just get rid of all the friendlies… having two friendlies in the middle of the season is just milking the fans and nothing else.
