Sure we had this one a different/previous thread… seem to recall something about it being a mini-qualifying tournament to set the groups for the pre-qualifying tournament, to qualify the actual tournament, where about 70% of the teams qualify anyway, or something like that…. 🙂

Big J… not disputing your fact, cyber chum, just suggesting your fact is based on a particularly productive part of Kun’s career, after he had already played around 200 other games to learn his craft, while Kane’s stat is based on his entire career, including the period while he was learning his craft, that is all, hence my comment about “skewing” the parameter on which this stat is based. Although technically correct, your claim is based on a limited field of criteria. Not going to work it out, but I wonder what Kane’s stats would be if I only based it on roughly the second half of his career, after he’s learned his trade, so to speak! 🙂

According to Wikipedia, club games only (assuming all appearances were 90 minutes which I’m sure we can both agree is unlikely!)….and these numbers also include all of Harry’s “loan” spells…

KUN: 416 games & 225 goals = 166 minus per goal…
KANE: 176 games & 98 goals = 161 minutes per goal….

Big J, you quite rightly point out the facts regarding the goals per minutes between Kane & Kun, would just like to point this out as being a little skewed when you consider Kun was bought to city when he was almost the finished article, whereas Kane minutes include his learning process…. unless of course, your minutes per goal numbers both start at the same point in both careers, in which case I’ll apologize now.

I think most Spud-lovers would be quite happy if he followed the Hoodle-road (apart from the bullocks religious nonsense), namely spend most of his career with the and then pop off overseas for a few years. Got no problem with that… just have the problem with everybody banging on about he should leave now and “triple” his wages nonsense. I’m just a hopeless romantic!

Goldie… being a football romantic is in the Spud genes, don’t you know? 🙂

And yes, there have been a few players who have stayed at one club etc…, the point being there has been and there is no reason to suspect there can’t be more! Like Paxo says, it’s taken a bloody long time with a lot of false dawns, but finally us Spuds have got ourselves a semi-regular spot at the top end of the table yet we get “warnings” about all our players leaving for this, that and the other. (I’m guessing it’s as tiresome as the “Moneybags” jokes you Chelsea and City fans get!)

And yes, being a football romantic, I’m willing to bet a Mars Bar or two that winning trophies (however implausible it maybe) with the Spuds will taste a lot sweeter than popping along to a “Super-Duper” club and just being part of their production lines….you going to tell me winning Big-Ears with the Spuds would won’t feel about a billion times better and come with a zillion times the glory, than winning it with Real?

And for the 47th time, all the new contracts issued over the last few years have (well, rumored to have) nice big chunky pay-rises in them when we get to the new stadium, along with whats reportedly some League leading bonuses for winning something in the meantime. One “version” I’ve read on the Interweb, was Harry for example, took home over 8 million last year (that’s roughly 160k a week). Might not be “Super” club wages, but hardly a fooking pauper, is he?
