Agree with the “merit” point, but I’m personally against anything that could help widen the gap between the top and the bottom of the table. Don’t the likes of ManCity/Chelsea already have enough advantages over the likes of Huddersfield/Arsenal?

I wonder how long before we see the Red-tops come out with a “Pep’s City Rose” headline of some sort…. I reckon about 12 hrs after the extend of Mendy’s injury is confirmed! 🙂

Yeah, shame for the lad.
Interesting thought about the pitches (but judging by the way the pitch was cutting up in the Spud game last night I would beg to differ… to a degree!). Remember reading somewhere the level of grip in the boots (more angles studs and things like that) aren’t also helping matters too. You could possibly also throw in an element of number of games too, bit of a turkeys voting for Christmas scenario…

So the Spuds and MoneyCity both have 6 from 6, as Singing the Blues says, so close you can almost taste it! Don’t know about your mob, but we’ve got an easyish (cough) double header against some Spanish team coming up, Real something or other… so we should be assured our place in the next round…
The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the special relationship might come into play here… one win each pretty much guarantees both us to go through…… 🙂
What’s this about a long-term for Mendy? Not seeing anything anywhere about. Shame for the lad, he looked like he had taken to the Prem like a duck to water when I’ve seen City play…

We were pretty turgid in the first half, but credit to Poncho, took off Weirdy Beardy, put on Llorente, played the FB’s on their proper sides and went 4-4-2…. completely different Spuds after that and thoroughly deserve the 3 points!

Well…. half-time and I have no problem admitting Spuds don’t really deserve the lead that they have. Toothless up front (apart from about 3 seconds!), looking utterly devoid of ideas in midfield, and the defence is all over the place with what looks like a back 3 of Toby on the right, Sanchez in teh middle, Davies on the left, with Weirdy Beardy playing RWB and Trippier playing LWB… and Boss-man is having a shocker, does not have his head on straight at all…

Have YooUtd played anybody in the top half of the table yet? I mean, yes, you can only bet what is in front of you and all that, but it’s starting to look like the easiest opening to a season forever (so much for the world being against Maureen!)
Anyway, Chelsea vs City on Saturday is arguably the first real “Big-game” of the season! Now watch it turn into a big damp squib! Do Chelsea really need the points? They lose and it will be 6 points to make up… (yes, 9, 31 games to go and all that… 🙂 )

With regards to Pool’s defensive issues, I do think the problem is simply you can’t have 2 CB’s if you’ve instructed your FB’s to bomb forward as Pool’s tend to do. You look at most teams who play AFB’s (Attacking Full Backs!… I’ve just invented a new position!) they tend to play with 3 dedicated CB’S, like my Spuds and that other mob in West

Nil… guarantee you all the Mars Bars you can eat in one sitting that if you looked at that corner kick, there would be somebody in a red shirt somewhere in that penalty box holding/hugging/groping/kissing somebody in a blue shirt… picking on that one incident via your red glasses (and there’s nothing wrong with that btw!) is a bit pointless. My mob are just as guilty!

Anybody else somewhat impressed with Brighton’s performance yesterday? It might have only been Castle, but it was a Rafa-prepped Castle and with a bit of decent finishing Brighton could have been a lot further in front than they were. The “Gross” lad and “Knockheart” look a couple of pretty decent players to me, if Brighton do go back down (and I don’t think they will!), I can see them quite easily getting deals at decent mid-table clubs in the Prem.
