It sours grapes from everybody who is ever on the wrong side of it….
How does the song go? “You only sing when you’re winning…”

I do my best, Nil, but I have enough problems teaching Buffy to tie his shoelaces, without worrying about the rest of society.

Now we’re simply getting back to the notion that every team, mine included, have a win at all costs attitude which also includes bending the rules to suit themselves at all times…
Sure, the Goonies were time wasting sunday, even Stevie Wonder could see that, but there will be an occassion this season when the boot will be on the other foot and the Lego-amn will be spitting his dummy about how “unfair” it was on the Goonies… all part and parcel of the game now.
The only issue Sunday I think Oliver had, was the first Goonie goal, when he pulled Walker over to talk to him and didn’t give him enough time to get back… and even then, there’s an argument about how long Walker was taking to get back anyway… other than that he was put under a lot of “pressure” with both teams playing silly-buggers for 98 minutes.

We could disect this forever…
Hertz should have got a yellow for shoulder charging Rodders in the first second… Rodders could have also got a yellow for trying to deliberately block him in the first second (and get a yellow for acting like a dick about it and pretending he had 12 teeth knocked out…
And that’s the first second… 🙂
As for the Doku incident, I do genuinely think he was just passing the ball back to where Oliver was pointing as the Goonies tried to nicked about 15 yards for the free-kick… in theory he kicked it away, straight to the place it should have been taken… book Doku for that then you should be booking whoever the Goonie was taking the piss…
Don’t worry Buffy, you got away with it at the Lane, all evens out over the season… 🙂

Sorry Waspy, we’ll agree to disagree on this one, they were playing 10 behind the ball from the get-go… going down to 9 just gave them a more legitimate excuse to do it… they got lucky with both the goals, and were playing it nice and tight and hoping for a “set-piece” from the first whistle.

The only person to blame for Trossard’s 2nd yellow is Trossard, end of debate… and considering how soft both the Goonie’s goals were anyway, I wouldn’t be complaing too much about the ref being unfair…
At the end of the day, they showed no ambition, would have been happy with a point before the game, and got what they deserved… didn’t see anything today which makes me think they’ll be challenging the 115 next May. Might be best of the rest… but that’s about it.

Was that for the shoulder or for kicking the ball away?

2 goals… 2 question marks… (3 if you include last weeks “goal”)… are the Goonies the new Wimbeldon?

Can the goonies really afford to lose? 5 points behind the 115 in September??

Okay, turn it off, and somehow Spuds score 2 to turn it around… absolutely 2nd best for 95% of that game…

17th September 2024 at 2:13 pm in reply to: Champions League New Format and First Phase Matches #215643The only vaguely interesting aspect which might come out of it is the squad rotation… obviously the “rule” about your best 11 is now ignored with managers resting players all over the place, and I’m sure that would cause an upset or two in certain individual games (I certainly can’t see Real Madrid failing to qualify, can you?)… of course, that could also come back and bite the TV ratings in the Arsenal when fans realize they’re watching in effect, reserve games…
Still, even us Spuds have to won some of these, right? 🙂

17th September 2024 at 10:17 am in reply to: Champions League New Format and First Phase Matches #215639Stupid, Nil… (the format, not you! 😉 )
Read somewhere, that in order to qualify for the knock-out rounds, a team only needs 2 wins and 1 draw from their 8 games to 100% gaurantee going through… and it could even be less depending on results.
Of course, the higher up the table the “easier” your route through the knock-outs…but I really can’t see any neutral getting even remotely excited about games that don’t involve their own club.
The only exciting games will be the last round and involve the sides that are at risk of being knocked out… and they don’t happen until February or something…
More games, more money, happier beancounters in the backroom… that’s all it is.

Oddbert needs a run in the team in place of Johnson (having a mare start to the season!), and Solenko needs to get his first goal, get that monkey off his back… and Maddison needs a kick up the Arseanl too…

All have a pop at Spuds week, is it? 🙂
My opinion, as a Spuds fan, is results (as in points) should be a lot better than it is, but we aren’t playing that badly… we’re continually “beating” our opponents in just about every metric except the one that counts… and it isn’t Angie who’s doing the shooting…
The Goonie game, more possession, more shots, more passes, and arguably a red for Timber (yellow for the tackle and a yellow for squaring up to Vicario, who got a yellow?!?)… and two very good saves by Raya in the first 15 minutes… could have very easily been a different result…
Still losing, but not like the same way we’re losing under the Maureen/Conte years, when we would lose and sit at home thinking we deserved to lose that…
