I’d usually say you’re being overly pessimistic Sean but you’re probably right that you’ve little chance of catching the others now, so tight are the margins. All you can do now is get the right person in to replace Klopp and reset.

Yeah you just can’t afford to lose games like that Sean in the run in. No excuses as you say. Pretty much a full strength team out too. Letting City go 2 points ahead at this stage is as good as conceding that it’s over. Is there a chance Klopp changes his mind and has another season? He’ll not want it to end like this, surely?

Yeah I’m not having the injuries excuse Sean. I get there are some good arguments there around the style of play and him maybe not having the CBs available to play the way he wants but I’ve always maintained that if the CBs are THAT important to his style, then he should have prioritised those positions when buying players.
Yeah Alfie, no way we’d buy Isak but I’d definitely take him given the chance.

Isak with goals again, what do people think of him? He always seemed to ke to be a little light weight but maybe has started to bulk out a little. If he avoids injuries better he could turn out to be top level. Thought at the time we should have gone for him rather than Nunez.
If Newcastle need to sell top assests for P+S reasons then he could make a switch tononenof the top clubs this season.
I really like Isak Threeps. With all this talk from Keane and Carra etc lately about Haaland’s all round game not being up to it despite his excellent goalscoring abilities, I’d say Isak is the better all round forward. I think he’d actually be better for City than Haaland is to be honest. I really rate him.

Yeah that’s it Sean. I get that others want him to stay. We weren’t like this last season in terms of conceding so many chances. It’s bizarre, as you say. I don’t think the players have given up playing for him, which shows they have character. I just think he’s getting it all wrong and, as you say is not learning from his mistakes. His post match comments are almost as bizarre as his tactics

Every team look like they’ll score when they attack us Sean. It’s been like that for ages. No idea how we’re still in this but it’s looking increasingly likely that Ten Hag will be gone this summer. Spurs and Villa aren’t great at all but nobody is capitalising on their mistakes.

Yeah fair points Sean. Re City, I just mean they’re below where most probably expected they would be at this point.

No that’s a fair point Threeps. Liverpool are proving this season that you don’t have to do well against the big 6 to compete. I think it’s always been (maybe mistakenly so) a bit of a gauge of a top team that you need to have a good record against them to compete, but evidently that’s not the case.

I was just looking at the predictions thread Sean and quite a few had Liverpool top 3 and you questioned why people were writing Utd off because they were tipping Liverpool to do better. I think it was very clear to me that Liverpool underperformed last season because their midfield was so poor. They were always going to be better this season imo. I’m not surprised in the slightest they’re top 3 anyway. City usually would be further ahead then they are now so they’re keeping Liverpool in the race by underperforming too imo.
As you say, all about opinions. Could still be a great finish for your lot and Klopp.

I’m not sure they’re over achieving for me Sean. They were 3rd favourites for the league at the start of the season. I had them down in the top 3. They’re exactly where I thought they’d be. When I’ve seen them this season, I just haven’t been overly impressed by them like I have Arsenal and at times City. They’re miles behind them 2 imo. Comfortably 3rd best but I think, like Utd last season, they’re benefitting from a lot of the usual bunch underperforming (Chelsea, Utd etc). Atalanta completely did Liverpool over and they’re a pretty average Serie A side this season. I thought Chelsea were the better sides for large parts of the League cup final too and they’re terrible under Poch. But just my opinion. To have 2 league draws and a cup exit against Utd on Klopp’s record this season is very poor.

That’s it Sean. Everyone has been outplaying us this season and you couldn’t put us away. This is why I thought the quadruple talk was silly. I don’t think this Liverpool side is that good if I’m honest. You look at Liverpool’s record against the other big 6 and it’s terrible. You can’t win a league just winning the easy games. It catches up on you eventually. Even the League Cup was only just won against an awful Chelsea side. I think this Liverpool side is massively overrated due to the poor level of the teams just below them.
Ange getting another humbling here.

I’m torn on it Chucky. I can completely sympathise with both sides of the argument. I’d lean on favouring the application of common sense in not awarding the pen. Arsenal gained zero advantage from it.

There should almost be a separate award for breakthrough player of the year for under 20s or something

Mainoo has had an incredible rise for both club and country and appears to be what both have been in need of. Now is when the real test begins because the expectation will rise now and people expect him to perform miracles despite still only being 18yrs old. I don’t think yesterday was one of his better games, despite the goal. Has to be a contender for young player of the year, albeit it’s always hard to judge that award when players like Haaland and Saka are still eligible.

The thought of needing to beat Arsenal with nothing for us to gain but the prize of Liverpool winning the league leaves me feeling sick š

Oh I’d have definitely taken it if it was the other way Sean, no doubt about it. Had it been overturned and we went on to take all 3, it would have been massively undeserved anyway.

I’m not quite as convinced as Alfie/Sean are that it wasn’t a pen. I’d lean on it not being a pen but I’m not convinced that it’s a strong enough case to overturn it, which we know requires VAR to deem it a clear and obvious error. Taylor is known for never giving us anything though so I’m not for a second surprised we didn’t get the decision.

Villa are not the side they looked a few weeks back Threeps. They’re very beatable now. Arsenal and City the stronger sides imo but it’s so tight now that anything could happen.
