You’re still reeling from that stupid spin thing he did Sean aren’t you? π

I saw something a couple of days ago that Chelsea have spent over Β£400mil since the summer if you include the players who have already signed for the summer (Nkunku). Boehly seems to have become Chelsea’s Ed Woodward just throwing money everywhere and hoping something sticks.
Feel a bit for Potter who is clearly a talented coach. The fans need to get behind him and stop this nonsense of singing Tuchel and Roman songs which helps nobody. I know the Chelsea fans on here are behind him but the match going fans seem to find this long term strategy to be a strain on their patience.

13th January 2023 at 2:48 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202781As for Antony and Sancho, I said when Antony came in I thought he would flop and I’ve seen little to change my mind. Still early days as you say. Seems to score big goals but doesn’t do 90min performances. Sancho, I can’t work him out. I thought he was brilliant at Dortmund even in the CL. I do wonder if he’s been struggling mentally considering Ten Hag’s recent treatment of him. If so, I can only hope Ten Hag is able to work the same kind of magic he seems to have worked with Rashford who looks a different player to the one we saw last season.

13th January 2023 at 2:45 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202780What’s with using the fees PPT? π. Do you stick Β£100mil next to Grealish when you’re referring to him?
Yeah not overly excited about him PPT but we are skint at the moment until we know what’s happening with the owner situation. As you say, it’s likely just body to replace Ronaldo. We’ve gone from a great goalscorer who can’t run to a runner who can’t score π. We’ll see.

I fancy us more at Arsenal than I do City at home. Think they’ll edge it on Sat. We’ll definitely have some hiccups in the next few weeks. It’s just whether any of the teams below can capitalise.

Which are the “both clubs”? Mikus? Liverpool definitely not out of it. Both Spurs and Newcastle could fade and we’ve both City and Arsenal (away) coming up. Could easily make up 6points on us over the coming weeks.

That pro rata fee per match for Felix just shot up Lucky π. 1 win in 9 for Potter which is terrible but Palace at home next is a nice game to potentially get back to winning ways and find some form.

12th January 2023 at 6:12 pm in reply to: Carabao Cup – Southampton v Man City / Forest v Wolves #202747No, Real Madrid tend not to be in the League Cup Sean, I’ll give you that π. We’re trophy less for 5 years. Won’t be fancying us until they’re lifting the trophy. Pretty sure you’d be saying the same in our position.

12th January 2023 at 5:53 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202746Probably about right Sean. He was around a 1 in 2 goalscorer in Germany but we all know that’s rarely transferable to the PL. Certainly didn’t set the world alight at Burnley.

12th January 2023 at 5:40 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202745No idea Threeps. Honestly haven’t seen much of him but his pressing stats are supposed to be crazy, hence the term “pressing monster”.
We didn’t really have much money to play with though so it was probably him or nothing for us. Can only hope Ten Hag has a plan. As I say, it’s low cost, low risk either way.
Some shift from Wout Weghorst in Burnley's 1-0 win over Wolves this weekend
Weghorst recorded 57 pressures – the most a single player has made in a Premier League match this season pic.twitter.com/UyDdXUUpRG

For today's π – I look at the Bundesliga once again and this time, trying to assess the defensive actions of strikers who press in the final third and how efficient they are in doing so –

12th January 2023 at 9:49 am in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202740Not sure what to think about Weghorst. Assumed he was just a big target man having not watched him much but the Athletic refer to him as a “pressing monster”. Supposedly one of the most competent pressing forwards around. In that sense, as well as him being Dutch, I can see the sense in a low-risk, low-cost temporary move when we’re clearly lacking options after Ronaldo’s departure. I’ll save judgement on this one for now.

12th January 2023 at 9:23 am in reply to: Carabao Cup – Southampton v Man City / Forest v Wolves #202739That’s it Nine. Newcastle lost one league game all season. If we get to the final, it’s far from a formality that we’ll win it. We saw last night what can happen in a cup game.

11th January 2023 at 9:56 pm in reply to: Carabao Cup – Southampton v Man City / Forest v Wolves #202727Oh I’d love to win this one Adlab. Would be massive for the new manager to get his hands on a trophy in his first season. Long way to go yet. As we’ve seen tonight, anything can happen in the cup.

11th January 2023 at 9:51 pm in reply to: Carabao Cup – Southampton v Man City / Forest v Wolves #202725Difficult Adlab. I guess he was hoping to only have to bring them on if he needed them and probably didn’t expect to need them at all. Agree in principle with ehat you’re saying though.

11th January 2023 at 9:45 pm in reply to: Carabao Cup – Southampton v Man City / Forest v Wolves #202722Not a single shot on target is crazy for a team with City’s quality Adlab. May have just been one there now with Haaland’s header there.

10th January 2023 at 5:29 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202693If I was a Chelsea fan, I obviously wouldn’t be bothered. He’s potentially better than what is there so it’s irrelevant that it likely won’t pay off in monetary terms. I just can’t see any financial sense to the move but it will be interesting to see how he gets on. Had tons of promise as a youngster.

10th January 2023 at 5:25 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202692This is very similar to what I’ve been saying. What exactly is a “winning scenario” from this move?
As fantastic as Joao Felix could be, I can understand Manchester United not making this loan move. Itβs peak Ed Woodward. There is no winning scenario for Chelsea. If he bombs, they will have spent almost 15/20m on nothing. If he succeeds and finds his scoring form, great in the

10th January 2023 at 4:59 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202689I think he’ll be decent. I just wonder what the point is in getting an expensive stop gap when there is little to gain from it beyond a slightly higher league position, assuming they indeed have given up on a CL place. Wouldn’t promoting a young striker be more beneficial as there’s a potential benefit in the longer term, unlike the Felix deal?

10th January 2023 at 2:59 pm in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #202683Chelsea fans, thoughts on Felix? I find it a bit strange to be honest. The only reason I can see that they would pay the Β£15mil it will cost for him for half a season is that it’s a last throw of the dice for a CL spot. Otherwise, I’m left wondering what the point is. As there’s no buy option, it’s not a “try before you buy” scenario. Half a good season there and he’s going to either:
1. Cost a lot of money to buy (seeing as he just renewed) or
2. He’s going to have his pick of CL clubs if he doesn’t want to go back to AtleticoIf it’s a last throw of the dice for a CL spot, I get it. The fee could be paid back by future CL earnings and it becomes justified. That looks a stretch though currently and makes it a huge gamble. A gamble that arguably doesn’t fill the weakness in the squad which is scoring goals.
