Yeah definitely Nine. Things were certainly looking brighter for Chelsea at the weekend against West Ham though. Also worth noting both Chelsea’s CL wins have come in seasons like this one, where they’re faltering in the league and have new managers with new ideas. A Chelsea-Liverpool final for a place in next year’s CL (assuming both finish outside the top 4) would be incredible for the neutral.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea are dangerous now in this competition for the other sides as they can (and probably need to) throw absolutely everything at the CL as they’re unlikely to get CL for next season through their league position. I don’t think there are any great sides bar maybe Bayern and Napoli in the other leagues at the moment and none of the PL sides have got them.
Somehow Utd have managed to draw a harder side in a inferior competition than any of the English sides in the CL which is a bit frustrating albeit we’re not under huge pressure to win the EL as in previous seasons due to a better league standing.

The 100mil pound man strikes again. What on earth is that and how did it get given?

Spoke too soon. Will take that. Rashford has really improved his heading this season.

Utd really poor today. Lacking energy and look a bit all over the place. Lots of fringe players playing but you have to be able to cope with injuries/suspensions at this level. The backup players should be coming in and staking a claim but it’s been very flat. It’s almost like we know we’re not winning the league but we also know the years below us are not really doing anything to challenge us either so we’re comfortable just settling for 3rd or 4th.

Blueson, absolute nonsense to compare City’s spending and alleged cheating to what Utd did under Ferguson.
Ferguson took over a club who had a net spend of minus Β£1.5mil in the 5 years preceding his appointment and Β£14mil total in the 5 years post his appointment (both Spurs and Liverpool spent more during this period). Newcastle, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs and even Man City outspent Utd massively during the period 92-98.
Again, this deflecting everything that ever comes at City and somehow finding a way to blame either Liverpool, Utd or Chelsea is just bizarre.

You do let yourself down at times Adlab. It’s always everyone else’s fault. Anything goes wrong for City, it’s either Utd or Liverpool’s fault from you. If it’s not them, it’s the London press or the Irish press. Were you not expecting this to be reported? It can’t come as a surprise to you that everyone is reporting it. Check out gjblues post on this thread. No bitterness, no snide comments about teams in red. You’re better than this Adlab.

I sense a bit of mischievousness in all this. The big question for me is why would City fail to cooperate if they indeed thought they were completely innocent as they keep protesting
βThe club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.β

I think the lack of cooperation is all part of a ploy to get themselves highlighted and accused with the full knowledge that their legal case is watertight. Getting off with this is better than never being put in front of a panel and whispers and rumours continue to rumble on. In other words, I think they have wanted these charges all along as a means to be able to “clear their name”.

Yeah agree Sean. Those two are terrible. I genuinely think Agbonlahor’s tactic is to just come out with the most controversial thing he can think of because he knows it will be spread around social media and therefore gain views. In order to become a well known pundit, you can’t be boring or you just won’t be booked for anything. You have to either be incredibly insightful or you are incredibly bad and just say things which generate views/clicks. He’s firmly in the latter category and will continue to make a career out of it for that very fact.

But Adlab, Harrods aren’t my club. My club is a part of me. Part of my identity. Harrods is a shop in which I have zero emotional attachment. Look Adlab, loads of the fans wouldn’t care and that’s fine. I just don’t want them owning my club as a project to improve their own image. The new generation of fam who cares more about transfers won’t care and it’s those who generate the clicks and the purchases now so it’s a moot point. I don’t have a choice but if I did it wouldn’t be them.
I do find the whataboutery a tad frustrating from City and Newcastle fans. No doubting there is a certain amount of hypocrisy involved but for me it’s the absolute refusal of City and Newcastle fans to accept that anything about their owners might be questionable that is frustrating. If City/Newcastle fans owned it and just said “yes they are scumbags but there’s not much we can do” I’d have so much more respect for them. I get they give you trophies and players but it’s almost as though that buys your silence and acceptance which I find is a shame.

That’s what it sounds like to me too Nine. It’s those 3 being terrified that the Premier League teams are outgrowing them in all departments because of their greedy way of handling TV rights distribution. Barcelona are a complete shambles of a club with all their levers business. They don’t deserve to have the PL clubs bail them out, which is what this seems to me to be.

Yeah we discussed it on the January window thread Adlab. Not happy about it at all. I’m anti state ownership. I don’t want my club being a toy for a country to wipe clean their image. If it’s money from the ME I can only hope it’s private investors. Ultimately, what I think doesn’t matter though, let’s face it. It would certainly divide the fanbase if it was state ownership, that’s for sure. Spurs being discussed also, as are Liverpool (with regards to Qatari ownership/investment). Fingers crossed.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t read up on this yet nor have I read all the posts on here but my initial thinking is why would we (the PL clubs) need this? Surely this is all about fear from the other leagues because the PL is becoming so powerful. The same PL who have only recently become the powerhouse league of Europe. All those years first Serie A then La Liga clubs were able to blow PL clubs away with their financial superiority and now we’re expected to help them catch us up? Is this something which would only replace the CL? It sounds messy to basically break away from Uefa and all that would entail.

Leeds absolutely flew out the blocks both halves and we had no reply. We controlled the match aside from those moments but just couldn’t put our chances away. We wouldn’t have pulled back a 2 goal deficit like that a year ago so that was a huge show of character if nothing else. The midfield two of Sabitzer and Fred looked very much like they’d never played together, which they haven’t. Too many individuals just really off it yesterday. Would be both surprised and disappointed if this doesn’t give us a big kick up the backside and we see a response in the return fixture this weekend.

8th February 2023 at 10:01 am in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #203984100% agree Nine. Can only hope they’re not successful. Of the two (state vs private investors) I’d take private investors every single time though. My overall preference is for no Qatari involvement though, definitely. My preference doesn’t matter one bit though π

8th February 2023 at 9:43 am in reply to: January Transfers 2023 (All I Want For Christmas is….) #203980What can you do Sean? I watched the World Cup so I don’t know how I can turn around and say I wouldn’t support the club if it happened. I’d certainly consider that fact but I don’t think I could realistically stop completely. What I would absolutely not do though would be to defend the owners if that did happen. If my club becomes the toy of a questionable state, I’d be disappointed and would gladly point a finger at their misdemeanors. No amount of shiny new things will change my mind on that. Sadly, many won’t care about things like that. I’ve seen many Liverpool fans disappointed that Qatar seemingly didn’t go for Liverpool and many Utd fans delighted by this development. It is what it is.
