P.S. I said nothing about his connections to oil. My suggestion is that there’s no evidence this would be state ownership which is something I absolutely want to avoid at all costs, given the choice.

Fair play if you’re well clued up on that part of the world Steve. Then you certainly know more than I do or even thr Athletic who don’t seem to know. Can you tell us more about the links between them? If that’s the case, you’re spot on that we’d be no better if they were successful.

will utd be tarnished with the same brush as city and Newcastle as it is oil money????
We definitely will if it’s proven to be state ownership like those two and PSG and rightly so. If it’s a private investor with looser links to the state, it’s just not the same and shouldn’t be treated as such. I’m not in the business of just denouncing individuals because of where they happen to be born. Actually being a state with the human rights record some of those ME states have, though, is a different matter entirely.

Well it’s not clear yet whether or not is is state backed Sean and all the talk before yesterday’s deadline revolved around an incoming bid from the same fund or a connected one to the PSG owners. The people behind the bid insist it’s private wealth but people are rightly sceptical. Like Nine, I don’t think Ratcliffe can compete with the other bidders and there’s supposedly others besides the Qatari investor and Ratcliffe.
Mixed feelings right now. Utd fans have waited almost 20 years to get rid of these parasites from the club so it’s exciting on one part but you never really know what kind of owners will come in to replace them.

Nobody will be allowed to do a Glazer style leveraged buyout Sean (putting debt on the club) but Ratcliffe/Ineos plan to put the debt on Ineos. Whoever Utd get as a new owner, if indeed anyone, there won’t be debt on the club.

Yeah too early to say Sean. Good article here from the Athletic. According to this, the bid is independent of the Qatari state which, if true, is good news. I don’t want to be state owned. I don’t think we can simply turn our noses up at people simply because of their country of origin. Being part of a questionable state is what I want to avoid and there’s not yet any evidence that is the case with that bid, albeit I remain sceptical. The fanbase is really divided, as I expected, with a large portion speaking out against it. Utd don’t need state ownership. They just need owners who don’t take a billion out of the club.
It’s also a misleading point to say the Glazers have spent as much as others. They have spent a lot on transfers but off the field, things have been left to rot and the club is not the appealing destination it once was for players. We don’t have as good facilities as Spurs, City, Liverpool. Nor do we have the kind of set up the likes of Liverpool have with their transfer committee. So we’ve just been throwing money aimlessly at transfers with no real vision.
We’re also absolutely skint now. Look at this January. Who else of the top clubs is going and loaning players from Burnley? Would never happen. A lot is made of the summer business but that was forced due to bad business decisions meaning we lost the likes of Pogba, Lingard, Matic, Matic all in one go. Hererra not long before that. A proper club sells them at the right time. We’ve lacked that business sense for a long time. That’s the reason our net spend is so much higher than others around us. We are terrible at selling players.

Proper end to end stuff at the Nou Camp. Utd probably unfortunate to only come away with a point in the end. Great match and sets up a big one for next Thursday. Seems way too early for one of these sides to go out on tonight’s evidence. Could have easily been a final.

Completely agree with Carragher here. No way can Real Madrid, Barcelona and Co be moaning about inequality after we’ve had years and years of seeing our best players poached by them two. Having the PL distribute money to the rest of European leagues to make it more even has to be up there with the most ridiculous suggestions. Clubs like the two big Spanish clubs have had it all their way for years because of greed. That they now want a piece of the PL pie is laughable. I hope the PL clubs tell that lot where to go when they come knocking about the Super League.
@Carra23 is spot on just because the money is drying up in La Liga and the brand is failing itβs the Premier Leagues duty to share money across Europe but when they were buying Ronaldo x 2, Figo and Zidane what did they do for the rest of europe? Hypocrisy. @GuillemBalague pic.twitter.com/Feb5GZnR0q

What an incredible job Michael Carrick has done since taking over a struggling Boro side. Winning 3-1 away at Sheff Utd yesterday

At almost 23yrs of age, why is Phil Foden mot yet a regular starter for club and country in the biggest games? Curious to hear why City fans think he isn’t starting. Has he not really kicked on in his development?

I just read somewhere that Conte hasn’t won a CL knockout game since 2013. That’s criminal for someone who has managed the teams he has.

No, there’s nothing to get carried away about Sean, I get that. On the other hand, there was probably not much to get carried away negatively either considering where you were only last season but many did get carried away after a few bad results. It’s too early to either write Liverpool off or suggest they’re back. Still so much of the season to go.

I don’t think you’d need one of those runs Threeps. You’re not up against a City (of that time) for a CL spot. Both us and Newcastle (and especially Spurs and below) are capable of letting other teams in. You’d be 3 points behind Newcastle if you beat them and win your game in hand. You only need to be slightly better than them over the remainder of the season if you can do that.

Been saying for a while I still fancy Liverpool to be in the race for a CL spot. If Liverpool could beat Newcastle this weekend coming, I’d actually make them favourites
