As you say Sean,it wouldn’t make a huge difference to what we spend on players but the simple fact we’d no longer have no much money taken out of the club and could compete with the top clubs on facilities, stadium, youth investment would mean we’d be able to compete for the likes of Haaland, Bellingham etc. Currently, we’ve absolutely no chance of getting that kind of player. Casemiro, Varane etc don’t come to us in their prime, they come when they’re reaching an age where Madrid deem them sellable.

It’s an absolute fact that this wouldn’t be State ownership per se, whichever way you angle it. That there is state involvement is very much open to conjecture but the insistence from Qatar is this is very much not a State bid.

This is in the Athletic this morning Sean so who knows
And The Athletic has spoken to one Gulf expert who agrees.
βI wouldnβt necessarily see this as a βQatariβ bid,β says Gerd Nonneman, a professor of international relations and Gulf studies at Georgetown University in Qatar.
βSheikh Jassim doesnβt hold any government positions, nor, indeed, has his father done for many years. Much of the sonβs fortune is based on his fatherβs wealth, which is thought to run into the billions, further enhanced by his own involvement in QIB and other business ventures.
βSo, contrary to the investments in Bayern Munich (a Qatar Airways sponsorship deal) or PSG, which were done by entities that were largely funded by the state and/or very senior members of the ruling family, this case is different.
βOf course, we donβt know who else, apart from HBJ, might have a stake in Sheikh Jassimβs Nine Two investment vehicle, but there doesnβt seem to be any controlling stake by any government entity of any of the actual ruling group.β

Yeah I agree re FSG. Though I’d suggest the FSG model only works when you have an elite coach so with them now staying, Liverpool badly need Klopp to get the side back to where it was.
Oh it’s a very real possibility that the Glazers stick around. It’s always been speculated about that an option is for Joel and Avram to buy the other siblings out.

π fair answer. Things looking on the up now though. Liverpool seemingly given up now on selling though after little interest in buying them for what FSG wanted. Crazy how fans of both clubs have been pining for state ownership. It really has divided both fanbases. Spurs too after the Qataris were after them.

No idea Sean. Will have a listen. Probably a massive hypocrite though like the majority of them are. Which podcast is it? I can only assume he’s judging the Qatari deal on the alleged fact that it’s a private investor but, as I say, haven’t listened to it.

Yeah I don’t think we could have argued had it been given. Wouldn’t surprise me if these kind of tackles start to get clamped down on as there have been a few like that this season. I think McTominay had one earlier in the season. Roberston and Fabinho both got away with one vs Brighton recently and Saka got away with this one yesterday
You people are always the first ones to cry foul.. saka did this yesterday and nothing was done .. rubbish pic.twitter.com/fX2938D5ls

Madrid are way off it this season too Sean. Miles behind Barca now in the league. Usually they step it up in the CL but I think this could go either way. Bookies have you level with Real to win the whole thing and I think that’s probably about right.

I haven’t seen that one Sean. You may be right. My initial reaction was that he pulled away pretty quickly. There was no follow through at all but it was reckless, if nothing else. I watched an interview with Chris Foy who said it was the right decision to not overturn it with VAR. Saka got away with a bad one as well against Villa. Been a few of those in recent weeks. I have no doubt they’ll start cracking down.

Thought Leicester were very good first 30mins. Same as Leeds, they were the better side. We’re chopping and changing so much at CB and CM at the moment with playing every 3 days that we’re taking half an hour to find any fluidity and control. Fortunately we’ve made it through Casemiro’s suspension relatively ok points wise.

Yeah agree CM. Looks a definite red in thr still images but in real time, it lust doesn’t look cynical at all. He’s trying to pull away as soon as he realises he’s mistimed it. Could have been given but would have been another harsh one after that Casemiro one recently.

Yeah big win for you that Sean. Liverpool now favourites alongside us to grab those last 2 CL spots.

P.S Chucky. That’s not correct re his Dad. Apparently, that’s how it was initially reported but journalists were mixing him up with someone else with a very similar name. His Dad was the Prime Minister about 10 years ago, not the Emir. I don’t think this is the same ones who own PSG and want to get it at Spurs.
I remain very sceptical regardless.

You’d have to fancy Liverpool to get a CL spot assuming they win this. None of the other sides around them are showing anywhere near a ough consistency and Liverpool have so much more quality in the side than any of the other challengers.

Another bold prediction, I think Chelsea might escape relegation this season π. Joking aside, I think Chelsea will be fine and I think Potter will eventually get it right. The question, as always, is how patient are the Chelsea board in waiting for that to happen. Big test of patience for them if results don’t pick up soon.

Here’s a prediction. I think Potter’s replacement at Brighton will be Potter’s replacement at Chelsea come the start of next season π

Care to expand on that Steve as it hasn’t really been reported as that by any of the major news outlets so this is a bit of an exclusive in that case? ππ
