Great to see all the new posters.
Hightown, your post seems to have done the job. Sean did say he’d be joining up. He’s one of the few posters from there who I have known for a while and had many a debate with. Taxi is on his way also. He’s just having problems logging in but we’ll get that sorted.

Welcome to the site Orbane and Makaveli. The homepage is the general football forum then you find the Liverpool site at footydebate.com/liverpool More club sites come soon. Just testing the waters with Liverpool one first.
It’s going to be a crucial last few weeks of the window for Liverpool. My suspicion is that Coutinho deal is done and that Liverpool have asked to delay the announcement until they’ve secured their replacement(s) so as to not be overcharged. Is the Keita deal all but dead now?

12/20 for me. Not bad for a non-Liverpool fan I reckon. Surprised about the Berger/Collymore one!

Could still be life in this one after all. Rashford really offers something different for Utd when he comes on. He must terrify fullbacks when he starts running at them

Welcome to the site mwake. With some more traffic to the site we should be able to make a decent forum for all fans. We welcome any feedback and will do our best to make the user experience as simple and effective as possible.
Liverpool could soon have an awful lot of money to spend (if Coutinho does go) but they’ll be taken to the cleaners by any buying club as they’ll know Liverpool have loads of money and very little time to replace him. They could do with getting the likes of VVD over the line before they come into more money

Should be a good one tonight. Looking forward to seeing both teams. A lot of eyes will be on Real’s lineup. The media will go into overdrive if Bale doesn’t start after Jose’s comments.

The Rio fee has been topped a few times now.
β Luiz to PSG (Β£50mil)
β Stones to City (Β£50mil)
β Walker to City (Β£50mil)You make a fair point that it would indeed be a world record fee for someone who few would say justifies being the worldβs most expensive defender BUT looking at the trends from the above players (who Iβd argue are around the same level if not a lower level than VVD) then the βgoing rateβ argument makes more sense donβt you think?

That’s a big shout. If that is even in doubt, surely the rumored VVD fee is better spent on another area of the field, as you say. I must admit I think the VVD fee is way over the top but it’s the going rate for a decent centre back these days. I do think you’ll get VVD either way. The Chelsea link seems to have quietened down

Yeah not looking good then. Will be a huge last few weeks of the window for a lot of clubs. Could be some big deals still to come.
P.S. Hightown I sent you an email re club pages. Let me know what you think
P.P.S I’m changing the name of this topic to “Transfers 2017” so we can use it for more than Neymar posts.

Not something I’ve done before but your choices for this season probably won’t be far off. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Leeds doing well this season. I also fancy Bradford for League One as they seem to keep getting close but never quite make it. My tip for the Premier League is probably still City.
What odds did you get on all those coming in?

Just spotted that one! Probably not all that surprising. Still, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll go. On a positive note, it must surely mean Liverpool will have lots of cash to blow in the final few weeks of the window. They will badly need a marquee signing. Aubameyang would have been a good one but he seems to have committed to Dortmund now. Surely Liverpool won’t go all out for Mbappe?

I’d agree with you Hightown that Coutinho is far from a direct replacement for Neymar. The thing is, I’m not sure if there is one. With Barca seemingly after ex Spurs midfielder Paulinho, 29, added to the loss of Neymar you have to wonder if they’re losing their way a bit as a top club. The ideal replacement from the brand perspective would be a Hazard or Dybala type of signing but I’m not convinced they’d be able to tempt either of those to join at the moment.
Jesus at City would probably have been the more likely heir to Neymar’s throne had he had a couple of decent PL seasons under his belt. Coutinho is a great player and while maybe not being the perfect fit to fill Neymar’s shoes, he may be all they have left to go for.

Do you think you’ll manage to hang onto Coutinho Hightown? It’s looking less and less likely

Doesn’t look like Sanchez will make it. Hazard, Costa, Bakayoko all out too. Will be good to see the two new strikers in Morata and Lacazette coming up against each other at least. Let’s hope both teams treat it as a proper game rather than a warm-up like we so often see.
