JC, Nutts, Hightown, do you all only see Ox as a squad player rather than someone who will get straight in as a starter? I can’t see who he would replace but I’d be surprised if he’s turned down Arsenal and Chelsea for a place on Liverpool’s bench for a lower wage than either of them were offering

To me, it’s just another example of the lack of professionalism which prevented, arguably, the most talented English player for a generation from reaching the heights his early promise hinted he was capable of.
I’m not suggesting he was unprofessional throughout his career but these incidents which have cropped up at various times during his career indicate he lacked that extra bit of application and maturity which makes great players outstanding ones.

Interesting picture that Paxton!
I don’t have a problem with clubs spending as they please. I just look forward to watching this all unfold. I’m not a fan of FFP but I’m even less of a fan of a form of FFP that is easily bypassed with clever accountants. It just makes a mockery of the whole thing.
999’s probably right in the sense that the most likely outcome of this is that Uefa find a way to close that loophole. I don’t really see the point in that though. If a club wants to find a loophole badly enough, I’m convinced they’ll always be able to. It’ll just turn into a real life version of one of those fairground games where you go to hit the mole and before you know it, another one pops up and you’re constantly trying to whack them as they pop up over the board.

Chucky, no I don’t think that’s the case. As I understand it, player sales (however the actual fee is structured) are accounted for fully in the year they’re sold. If that’s the case, you could buy a £100mil player over a 5 year contract and fund it by selling players for £20mil each year over the next 5 years. Don’t quote me on that though!

9, it would seem crazy that Uefa hadn’t accounted for that type of an attempt at getting around the rules. It seems like such an obvious thing to do.
I’m no finance expert but, assuming Mbappe signs next summer for a similar fee which, for arguments sake, works out at another £40mil per year over his contract. That would be £80mil a year for the two. They’ve done well to sell for £50mil this season but how sustainable is it to expect to sell for £70mil/£80mil each season?

Nb, I have noticed that before yes. Although, as far as I can see, it only “appears” to assign the vote to the wrong person initially. If you refresh the page, I’m pretty sure it then shows on the correct post. Slightly frustrating but not in urgent need of a fix. Let me know if that doesn’t appear to be the case for you!

I actually fell asleep watching that yesterday! Decent result in the end though. Should see us top the group

I agree @Mikus. Liverpool’s window wasn’t bad at all. I think it was a wise move to tie down Keita for next year rather than go for a less fancied option who could have made the move straight away. I said on another thread that I think Ox will be decent for your lot.
As you say, Liverpool are much better placed now to cover for any loss to the likes of Coutinho or Mane etc. I also think Solanke will prove to be a good buy. It will be interesting to see now if Ox kicks on in his development which seems to have stalled somewhat. The pace in that Liverpool team will frighten any backline they come up against.
Really looking forward to City vs Liverpool after the International break

Decent window for Utd. Wasn’t expecting anything yesterday so wasn’t left disappointed. I think Lukaku is actually a more suitable striker for us than Zlatan. He’s much more mobile and will cause defences all sorts of problems. Zlatan coming back will be like a new signing too. Matic, whilst not extraordinary, will help our more creative, forward thinking, midfielders express themselves without the pressure of having to worry as much about going the other way. Lindelof looks decent but way too early to say with him really. All in all, I’d give us 7/10.
Get your votes in below for who had the best window!

Agree with that Taxi. Could and probably should have been a better window for Liverpool but they’ve still managed to strengthen the squad and hold onto their star player. There’s some frightening pace in that team now

Bit of an anti-climax that deadline day, as usual. Arsenal are kidding nobody. You have 3 months to get a big deal done but you leave it until it’s far too late and bid £90mil Lemar.
What’s going on at Chelsea? Drinkwater is not good enough for them. Llorente, Ox, Barkley all reject moves to them. Something’s not right there. All of them had chances to move to the capital, to the champions and undoubtedly would have got a big pay rise. 999 what’s the view among Chelsea fans?
Spurs look to have had a decent deadline day but you just have to wonder how wise it was to leave all those deals to the last day, as Paxton suggested. They could have had those deals wrapped up weeks ago and gone into the season with a settled squad.

I think he’ll be at City this time next year anyway Jim so they’ve probably saved themselves a lot of money. I was half expecting another attempt at Johnny Evans from City before the end of the window

I think he’s better than Barkley Banjo! Not seen loads of him but he was highly rated before he went to Barca

999 looking forward to seeing Sanches in action. Gives the big clubs a chance to see if he has what it takes in the PL too. Though, a decent season there and Bayern will either slap a huge fee on him or have him back in their squad.
Jack Wilshere targeted by Birmingham City. What a fall from grace for the lad who was once ripped as England’s great hope and the one to build a team around. I’m amazed nobody in the PL will take a chance on him.
There was talk of a last minute Willian to Utd deal being on the cards, dependant on Mahrez to Chelsea. Really can’t see Chelsea selling Utd another player!

Llorente to Spurs was a bit of a surprise to me. It makes sense though. They’ve needed decent backup for Kane for a while and Llorente will provide that.
I still can’t get my head around the Mbappe deal. I think this summer signals a massive change in the order of the traditional food chain. Real have, for the first time in a long time, been unable/unwilling to sign a Galactico. Ronaldo is fantastic for them but, previously, they’d be in for the top youngsters on the market to ensure there was an heir to the star player’s throne. Mbappe, Neymar, Hazard, Dybala, Jesus, Pogba, Kane, Alli etc would have all been on their radar.
Barca lose one of their best players and seem unable to get hold of Coutinho and end up signing a player who is still very early in his development, albeit he looks like a great prospect.
Meanwhile, PSG sign probably the 2 most marketable players aside from Ronaldo and Messi with no sign of either of the Spanish sides even being in contention.
With the rise of Serie A and the masses of money floating around the PL and now the French League, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a period of decline for La Liga.

I think he’ll be decent Jim, not great but decent. Liverpool need depth in their squad and he’s not a bad player. Liverpool in recent seasons often struggled as soon as they got a couple of injuries or the likes of Mane went away to Afcon. Unlike the Manchester clubs, Liverpool just don’t have that squad depth and I think Ox could be a player who can help address that with his versatility

I think he’ll be a decent signing for Pool but £40mil is an awful lot for someone who has really struggled to live up to the early promise he showed. Another ex Southampton player then for them!

999, yeah I noticed the Mbappe loan thing. Still, all that says to me is that FFP is easily bypassed. Loaning a player who is probably valued at 200 mill EUR in today’s market is just madness!
