Not as easy as it looked this one. Jim, Wright went to West Ham didn’t he? I assume they were still in the PL then.

Aguero is definitely one I missed. Drogba must be on there too. I wonder if Scholes could be on there. He was quite prolific in the earlier part of his career and must have got close to 100 if not passed it after so many seasons.

I’ve never said “I wish there was International football this weekend” but every other summer I say “I wish it was a tournament year this year.”

Chucky, I haven’t read it in much detail. I just remember it being bandied about as a solution to the growing disillusionment around International friendlies. The very fact a European wide solution was being sought suggests it is probably not only a problem in this country.

The next generation of football fans seem far more interested in the Champions League than any International tournaments so I think something had to be done. I don’t think kids grow up anymore dreaming of scoring the winning goal in a World Cup final. They dream of hearing that Champions League music as they run out onto the pitch. So, even though I would miss it, I think more needs to be done to retain the interest of the next generations.

It’s a good question Paxton but I have to agree with Chucky here. I love the big tournaments every other year. The qualifiers are generally boring, in my opinion, due to the fact we’re always one of the higher ranked teams. Something needs to be done to make sure the better teams are not having to play the San Marinos of this world, unless they’ve done more to justify their place amongst the better nations.

In terms of the pointless friendlies and qualifiers against the minnows, could the answer already be around the corner with this:

Finally back again!

Looking forward to City vs Pool. Chelsea could easily drop points, as could Spurs & Utd. I certainly won’t be placing any bets this weekend, that’s for sure. I really can’t see City winning this game at home to Liverpool though. It’s the kind of game Liverpool will love. They’ll cause that City back line all sorts of problems with their pace.

I fancy Arsenal to get a big win to get their title challenge (top 4 challenge) back on track. They usually come back with a bang when they’ve been written off and the pressure and expectation has dropped.

I’m convinced we’ll still win this but it’s not great to watch at all. I appreciate we don’t have the squad we had 10-15 years ago but there’s still some top PL players in that team who should be doing much, much better. What happens to Kane and Alli as soon as they put on England shirts? They’re not the only ones but I expect more from them because of how good they are for Spurs

Yeah I think Liverpool really suffered last season when Mane wasn’t available. Ox’s versatility will be a huge asset. Although I’ve never been convinced by him playing centrally, at least he’s comfortable there. As you say though, he provides much better back up for the likes of Mane than you’ve had previously.

With the amount of games the CL clubs have to play, I often wonder if there is such a thing as a first choice XI anymore. They’ll all get plenty of games I reckon.

Oh I don’t have an ounce of sympathy for him Jim. It’s his wife and kids I have sympathy for. I appreciate they’re incredibly privileged too but nobody deserves treatment like that whilst pregnant with his child. As 999 suggests, it feels like he could easily go off the rails if he loses his family
